Intended Use

Your Black & Decker heat gun has been designed for
various heating applications (eg. Paint stripping)

General safety rules

Warning! Read all instructions. Failure to follow all

instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire

and/or serious injury. The term “power tool” in all of the
warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded)
power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

1. Work area

a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark

areas invite accidents.

b. Do not operate power tools in explosive

atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable

liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.

c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating

a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2. Electrical safety

a. Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never

modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter
plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.

Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of

electric shock.

b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded

surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and
refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric

shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

c. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions.

Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of
electric shock.

d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for

carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep
cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving
parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of

electric shock.

e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an

extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a

cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric
shock.

3. Personal safety

a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use

common sense when operating a power tool. Do not
use a power tool while you are tired or under the

influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment
of inattention while operating power tools may result in
serious personal injury.

b. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection.

Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety
shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

c. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the

off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools

with your finger on the switch or plugging in power tools

that have the switch on invites accidents.

d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning

the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a

rotating part of the power tool may result in personal
injury.

e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at

all times. This enables better control of the power toolin

unexpected situations.

f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or

jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away
from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair

can be caught in moving parts.

g. If devices are provided for the connection of dust

extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are
connected and properly used. Use of these devices

can reduce dust related hazards.

h. Use clamps or another practical way to secure and

support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding

the work by hand or against your body leaves it unstable
and may lead to loss of control. Before drilling into walls,

floors or ceilings check for the location of wiring and

pipes. Avoid touching the tip of a drill bit just after drilling,
as it may be hot.

4. Power tool use and care

a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power

tool for your application. The correct power tool will do

the job better and safer at the rate for which it was
designed

b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn

it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled

with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

c. Disconnect the plug from the power source before

making any adjustments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures

reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.

d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children

and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power
tool or these instructions to operate the power tool.

Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained
users.

e. Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or

binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any
other condition that may affect the power tools
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired
before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly

maintained power tools.

f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly

maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are
less likely to bind and are easier to control.

g. Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in

accordance with these instructions and in the
manner intended for the particular type of power
tool, taking into account the working conditions and
the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for

operations different from those intended could result in a
hazardous situation.

5. Service

a. Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair

person using only identical replacement parts. This
will ensure that the safety of the power tool is
maintained.

Additional Safety Instructions for Heat Guns

• Always switch off before putting tool down.

• Extreme care should be taken when stripping paint,

the peelings, residue and vapors of paint may contain
lead, which is poisonous. Once deposited on surfaces,
hand to mouth contact can result in the ingestion of lead.
Exposures to even low levels of lead can caused
irreversible brain and nervous system damage; young
and unborn children are particularly vulnerable. Do not
smoke, eat or drink in a work area that could or may be
contaminated by lead. Lead based paints should only

be removed by a professional and should not be
removed using a heat gun.

• When removing paints you should ensure that your

work area is enclosed. It is advisable to wear a dust
mask.

• Do not burn the paint. Keep the nozzle at least 25mm
(1”) from the surface as this keeps the temperature
below the required 450°C. If you are scraping from a
vertical position then you should scrape downwards to
prevent the paint from falling back into the heat gun and
burning. Dispose of all paint debris safely and ensure

that the work area is thoroughly cleaned after completing
the job.

• Do not use in a damp atmosphere or where

flammable gases may be present or use near

combustible materials. Spaces behind boards, ceilings

and floors and wall cavities in timber frame constructed
houses can contain flammable materials. Check before

using the heat gun.

• Allow the tool to cool fully before storing.

• Ensure adequate ventilation when using heat guns as

toxic fumes may be produced.

• Do not use as a hairdryer! The air temperature is far
higher than a hairdryer.

• Do not obstruct either the air intake or nozzle outlet as
this may cause excessive heat build up resulting in
damage to the tool.

• Do not direct the hot air blast at other people.

• Do not touch the metal nozzle as it becomes very hot

during use and remains hot for up to 30 minutes after
use. Do not look down the nozzle while the unit is working
because of the high temperatures being produced.

• Do not allow paint to adhere to the nozzle or scraper as
it could ignite after a time.

• Do not operate your heat gun whilst it is hanging by the
hanging hook.

• A fire may arise if the appliance is not used with care.

• Do not place the nozzle against anything while using

or immediately after use.

• Do not poke anything down the nozzle as it could

give you an electric shock.

• Do not apply to the same place for a long time;

• Do not leave the appliance unattended when it is

switched on.

• Place the appliance on its stand after use

Safety of others

• This appliance is not intended for use by

persons(including children) with reduced physical,
sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and
knowledge,unless they have been given supervision or
instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person
responsible for their safety.

• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not

play with the appliance.

Handling Your Heat Gun

Do not place your hand over the ventilation slots (3) or block

these vents in any way. This restricts the airflow through the

element and causes over heating.

Setting the temperature (fig. B)

• To increase the temperature setting, turn the heat control

knob (2) anti-clockwise.

• To reduce the temperature setting, turn the heat control

knob clockwise.

Operating Your Heat Gun (fig. C)

• To switch your heat gun on at the low temperature

setting, press the switch (1) to depress to position “I”.

• To switch the tool on at the high temperature setting, set

the switch (1) to position “II”.

• To switch the tool off, set the on/off switch (1) to position

“0”.

Note: Allow the element to heat up for a few seconds before
use. Initially, some smoke may emit from your heat gun. This
is normal and will soon cease.

Cooling Down

In use, the nozzle (4) of your heat gun becomes extremely
hot. Great care is necessary when cooling your heat gun
after use.

Hands Free Use (fig. D)

Proceed as follows: Direct the hot air onto the area to be

removed. When the paint softens, scrape firmly. Experiment

to establish the length of time necessary to apply the heat to
obtain optimum results. Scrape the softened paint
immediately or it will harden again.

Your heat gun is not suitable for stripping metal-framed
windows. This is because the heat from the heat gun is
conducted through the metal and can crack the glass. Scrape
with the grain of the wood wherever possible. Do not linger
on one spot for too long as the surface may char or ignite.

Accessories

The performance of your tool depends on the accessory
used. Black & Decker and Piranha accessories are
engineered to high quality standards and designed to
enhance the performance of your tool. By using these
accessories you will get the very best from your tool.

Maintenance

Your tool has been designed to operate over a long period of
time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory
operation depends upon proper tool care and regular
cleaning.

Warning! Before performing any maintenance, switch off and
unplug the tool.

• Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool using a

soft brush or dry cloth.

• Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth.

Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.

This tool can also be used in stationary mode.

• Place the tool onto a firm and stable surface as shown.

• Always point your heat gun away from you.

• Secure the cable to prevent pulling your heat gun off the

stand.

Do not touch the nozzle (4) and ensure that nothing
is dropped into the nozzle. Carefully switch off your
heat gun and then allow it to cool

Paint Stripping

Your heat gun is designed to soften paint and lacquer
enabling it to be removed using a good quality hand scraper.

Separate collection. This product must not be
disposed of with normal household waste.

Votre décapeur thermique Black & Decker a été conçu pour

Consignes générales de sécurité

Attention! Lire toutes les instructions. Le non-respect des

instructions données ci-après peut entraîner des risques
d’électrocution, d’incendie et/ou de blessures graves. Le
terme “machine-outil” dans tous les avertissements donnés
ci-après se réfère à votre machine-outil branchée sur

secteur (avec cordon) ou alimentée par des piles (sans fil).

CONSERVEZ CETTE NOTICE.

1. Place de travail

a. Maintenir la zone de travail propre et bien éclairée.

Les endroits encombrés et sombres invitent les
accidents.

b. Ne pas utiliser les machines-outils dans un

environnement explosif, comme en présence de

liquides inflammables, de gaz ou de poussières. Les
machines-outils provoquent des étincelles qui peuvent

2. Sécurité électrique

c. Ne pas exposer les machines-outils à la pluie ou à

un environnement humide. La pénétration de l’eau à

l’intérieur d’une machine-outil accroît le risque de
décharge électrique.

d. Ne pas maltraiter le cordon. Ne jamais utiliser le

cordon pour porter la machine-outil, la tirer ou la
débrancher. Tenir le cordon à l’écart de la chaleur,
des graisses, des bords coupants ou des parties
mobiles. Les cordons endommagés ou emmêlés

augmentent le risque de décharge électrique.

e. En actionnant une machine-outil en extérieur, utiliser

une rallonge adéquate pour une utilisation en
extérieur. L’utilisation d’un cordon prévu pour un usage

en extérieur réduit le risque de décharge électrique.

3. Sécurité personnelle

a. Prêtez attention et regardez ce que vous êtes en train

de faire, utilisez votre bon sens quand vous
actionnez une machine-outil. N’utilisez pas une
machine-outil quand vous êtes fatigué ou sous

l’influence de drogues, d’alcool ou de médicaments.
Un moment d’inattention pendant l’opération d’une
machine-outil peut occasionner des blessures graves.

b. Utilisez des moyens de protection pour votre

sécurité. Portez impérativement des lunettes de

protection. D’autres possibilités comme un masque
contre la poussière, des bottes de sécurité
non-glissantes, un casque ou des protections auditives
dans des situations appropriées réduisent le risque de
blessures corporelles.

c. Eviter une mise en route accidentelle. Assurez-vous

h. Immobilisez la pièce sur une surface stable au moyen

de brides ou de toute autre façon adéquate. Tenir la

pièce d’une main ou contre son corps la rend instable et
cela risque d’entraîner une perte de contrôle. Avant de

percer dans un mur, un plancher ou un plafond, vérifiez

l’emplacement des câbles et des tuyaux. Evitez de
toucher la pointe d’un foret juste après le perçage, car il
peut être encore chaud.

4. Utilisation d’une machine-outil et soins d’entretien

a. Ne pas forcer la machine-outil. Utilisez la

machine-outil correspondant au travail à effectuer.

Une machine-outil adéquate réalisera un travail mieux
fait, plus sûr et dans un délai pour lequel elle a été
conçue.

b. Ne pas utiliser une machine-outil dont l'interrupteur

ne fonctionne pas. Une machine-outil qui ne peut pas

être activée par un interrupteur est potentiellement
dangereuse et doit être réparée.

c. Débranchez l’appareil avant de procéder à un

ajustement, un changement d’accessoire ou avant de
le ranger. De telles mesures préventives de sécurité

réduisent le risque de mettre des machines-outils en
service accidentellement.

d. Rangez les machines-outils hors de portée des

enfants et n’autorisez pas l’utilisation de
machines-outils par des personnes qui ne sont pas
familiarisées avec l’appareil ou avec ces
instructions. Les machines-outils sont dangereuses

e. Prendre soin des machines-outils. Vérifier la

déviation d’alignement, le serrage des vis, les pièces
cassées ou tout autre dommage qui pourrait affecter
le bon fonctionnement de la machine-outil. Si la
machine est endommagée, la faire réparer avant de
l’utiliser. Beaucoup d’accidents sont dûs à des

machines-outils en mauvaise condition.

f. Maintenir les outils de coupe aiguisés et propres.

Des outils de coupe correctement entretenus avec des
lames aiguisées risquent moins de se bloquer et sont
plus faciles à utiliser.

g. Utilisez une machine-outil, ses accessoires et ses

pièces selon ces instructions et de la façon prévue
pour ce type particulier d’appareils, en tenant
compte des conditions de travail et du travail à
effectuer. Une utilisation autre que celle prévue peut

entraîner une situation dangereuse.

5. Service entretien

a. Faites entretenir votre machine-outil par un

réparateur qualifié et utilisez seulement des pièces

de rechange identiques. Ceci afin d’assurer le maintien

de la sécurité de votre machine-outil.

Consignes de sécurité supplémentaires pour
les décapeurs thermiques

• Veillez à toujours éteindre l’outil avant de le déposer.

• Faites preuve de prudence lors du décapage de la

peinture, car les écailles de peinture, les résidus et les
vapeurs peuvent contenir du plomb qui peut se révéler
toxique. En présence de ces peintures en surface, le
seul contact de la main avec la bouche peut entraîner
une ingestion de plomb. L’exposition au plomb même
dans des proportions très faibles peut entraîner des
dommages irréversibles dans le cerveau et le système
nerveux; les jeunes enfants et les femmes enceintes
sont particulièrement vulnérables. Ne fumez pas, ne
buvez pas et ne mangez pas dans un espace de travail
susceptible d’être contaminé par le plomb. Les

peintures à base de plomb doivent être enlevées
uniquement par des professionnels et en aucun cas
avec un décapeur thermique.

• Lors du décollement de la peinture, assurez-vous

que la zone de travail est bien isolée. Il est conseillé
de porter un masque anti-poussière.

• Ne brûler pas la peinture. Maintenez la buse à au
moins 25mm (1”) de distance de la surface peinte car
cela maintient la température en-dessous des 450°C
requis. Lors du travail vertical, travaillez du haut vers le
bas pour éviter que la peinture ne tombe sur l’outil et ne
brûle. Déposez tous les débris de peinture dans un

endroit sûr et assurez-vous que la zone de travail est
correctement nettoyée lorsque le travail est terminé.

• Ne pas utiliser dans une atmosphère humide, en

présence de gaz inflammables ou à proximité de

matériaux combustibles. Les espaces derrière les
panneaux, les cavités dans les plafonds, les planchers et
les murs des maisons construites en bois peuvent

contenir des matériaux inflammables. Vérifiez avant

d’utiliser un décapeur thermique.

• Laissez l’outil refroidir avant de le ranger.

• Assurer une aération suffisante lors de l’utilisation d’un

décapeur thermique car des fumées toxiques peuvent
être libérées sous l’effet de la chaleur.

• Ne pas utiliser comme sèche-cheveux! La température

de l’air soufflé est beaucoup plus élevée que celle
soufflée par un sèche-cheveux.

• Prenez garde à ne pas obstruer l’orifice d’entrée d’air ni

la bouche de la buse car ceci pourrait provoquer une
chaleur excessive et endommager l’outil.

• Ne dirigez pas le souffle d’air chaud vers d’autres

personnes.

• Ne touchez pas la buse en métal car elle atteint des
températures très élevées pendant l’utilisation et reste
encore très chaude pendant 30 minutes environ après
utilisation. Ne regardez pas dans la buse lorsque l’outil
est en marche en raison des températures très élevées
produites lors du fonctionnement.

• Veillez à ce qu’aucune trace de peinture n’adhère à la

buse ou au grattoir car elle pourrait s’enflammer à la

longue.

• Ne faites pas fonctionner votre décapeur thermique
lorsqu’il est suspendu par son crochet de suspension.

• Un incendie peut survenir si l’appareil n’est pas

utilisé avec soin.

• Ne laissez pas reposer la buse contre un support

quelconque lors de l’utilisation ou immédiatement
après.

• N’enfoncez rien dans la buse pour éviter tout risque

de choc électrique.

• Ne pas appliquer trop longtemps au même endroit;

• Ne pas laisser l’appareil sans surveillance lorsqu’il est

sous tension.

• Replacer l’appareil sur son support après utilisation

Sécurité d’autrui

• Cet outil ne peut pas être utilisé par des personnes (y

compris les enfants) ayant des capacités physiques,
sensorielles ou mentales réduites, ou par des personnes
manquant d’expérience et de connaissances, à moins
qu’elles ne soient encadrées ou qu’elles n’aient été
formées à l’utilisation de l’outil par une personne
responsable de leur sécurité.

• Ne laissez pas les enfants sans surveillance pour éviter
qu’ils ne jouent avec l’appareil.

Description (fig. A)

Prise en main du décapeur thermique

Ne placez pas votre main sur les fentes d’aération (3) et
veillez à ne pas les boucher. Cela restreint le flux d’air à
travers l’appareil et provoque une surchauffe.

Réglage de la température (fig. B)

• Pour augmenter la température de chauffe, tournez le
bouton de contrôle de la température de chauffe (2) dans
le sens antihoraire.

• Pour réduire la température de chauffe, tournez le
bouton de contrôle de la température de chauffe dans le
sens horaire.

Fonctionnement du décapeur thermique (fig. C)

• Pour faire démarrer le décapeur thermique en travail à
faible température, mettez l’interrupteur (1) sur la
position “I”.

• Pour faire démarrer le décapeur thermique en travail à
température élevée, mettez l’interrupteur (1) sur la
position “II”.

• Pour éteindre l’outil, mettez l’interrupteur (1) sur la
position “0”.

Remarque : Laissez l’appareil chauffer pendant quelques
secondes avant de l’utiliser. Dans un premier temps, le
décapeur thermique peut émettre un peu de fumée. Ceci est
normal est cesse très rapidement.

Refroidissement

Lors de l’utilisation, la buse (4) de votre décapeur thermique

devient extrêmement chaude. Soyez vigilant pendant le

refroidissement du décapeur thermique après utilisation.

Utilisation en position fixe (fig. D)

Cet outil peut également être utilisé en mode fixe.

• Placez l’outil sur une surface stable et de niveau comme

indiqué.

• Assurez-vous toujours que la buse du décapeur n’est
pas dirigée vers vous.

• Coincez le câble pour ne pas risquer de faire tomber
l’outil du banc de travail.

Ne touchez pas à la buse (4) et assurez-vous que
rien ne tombe à l’intérieur de la buse. Eteignez

votre décapeur thermique avec précaution, puis laissez-le
refroidir.

Décapage de peinture

Votre décapeur thermique a été conçu pour ramollir la
peinture ou le vernis, permettant de l’enlever à l’aide d’un
grattoir de bonne qualité. Procédez comme suit: Dirigez l’air
chaud sur la peinture à enlever. Lorsque la peinture
commence à ramollir, grattez-la fermement. Faites des
essais pour évaluer le temps de chauffe nécessaire pour
obtenir les meilleurs résultats. Grattez la peinture ramollie
sans attendre avant qu’elle ne durcisse à nouveau.

Votre décapeur thermique ne convient pas pour décaper les
cadres métalliques des fenêtres. En effet la chaleur émise
par le décapeur thermique se propage à travers le métal par
conduction thermique et risque de faire fendre les vitres.
Grattez le bois dans le sens du grain autant que possible. Ne
vous attardez pas sur un endroit pendant trop longtemps car
la surface peut carboniser et s’enflammer.

Accessoires

La performance de votre machine dépend des accessoires
