Intended use
Your BLACK+DECKER toaster has been designed for making toast.
This product is intended for household use only.
Thank you for choosing BLACK+DECKER. We hope that you will enjoy using this product for many years.

before using the appliance.
• The intended use is described in this
manual. The use of any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury.
• Retain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
• Always take care when using the
appliance.
• Do not use the appliance outdoors.
• Do not operate the appliance if your
hands are wet. Do not operate the appliance if you are barefoot.
• Guide the power supply cord neatly so it
does not hang over the edge of a worktop and cannot be caught accidentally or tripped over.
• Never pull the power supply cord to
disconnect the plug from the socket. Keep the power supply cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges.
• If the power supply cord is damaged
during use, disconnect the appliance from the power supply immediately. Do not touch the power supply cord before disconnecting from the power supply.
• Disconnect the appliance from the power
supply when not in use and before cleaning.
Safety of others
• This appliance can be used by children
aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved. Children shall not play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised.
• Keep the appliance and its cord out of
reach of children less than 8 years.
• Children should be supervised to ensure
that they do not play with the appliance.

After use
• Switch off, remove the plug from the
socket and let the appliance cool down before leaving it unattended and before changing, cleaning or inspecting any parts of the appliance.
• When not in use, the appliance should be
stored in a dry place. Children should not have access to stored appliances.
Inspection and repairs
• Before use, check the appliance for
damaged or defective parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches
and any other conditions that may affect
its operation.
• Do not use the appliance if any part is
damaged or defective.
• Have any damaged or defective parts
repaired or replaced by an authorised repair agent.
• Before use, check the power supply cord
for signs of damage, ageing and wear.
Additional safety instructions for Toasters
Warning! The bread may burn, therefore do
not use the toaster near, on, or below combustible material i.e curtains, tea towels etc.
• This appliance is not intended to be
operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
• Always use the appliance on a dry, level
surface
• Care must be taken not to touch any hot
surfaces, do not store or cover the appliance until it has fully cooled down.
• Do not use harsh abrasives or caustic or
oven cleaners when cleaning this appliance.
• Do not use the appliance without the
crumb tray in place. The crumb tray should be cleaned regularly. Do not allow crumbs to build up in tray.
• Do not use this product with any foodstuff or product containing sugar
content or with products containing jam or preserves
• Do not immerse in liquid.
• Do not use the appliance if the power
supply cord or mains plug is damaged or defective.
• If the power supply cord or mains plug is
damaged or defective it must be repaired by an authorised repair agent in order to avoid a hazard. Do not cut the power supply cord and do not attempt to repair it yourself.
• Never attempt to remove or replace any
parts other than those specified in this manual.

Warning! Never attempt to extract jammed
toast, muns, bagels or any other item with a knife or any other object, as contact with live elements may cause electrocution. Allow the appliance to cool down, unplug and carefully remove the object.

Use
Warning! Do not exceed the maximum
capacity of the Appliance.
Operating Toaster
• Insert the plug into a suitable mains
supply socket and turn the power on.
• Place up to two slices of bread, muffins
or bagels into the bread slots (2).
• Select the desired browning setting from No.1 to No.6 on the Variable Browning
Control (6).
Note! When using the toaster for the first
time we suggest you toast on No.3. Varying
types of bread and personal preference may
require a different browning setting.
• Press the Carriage Control lever (1) down
until it clicks into place. Toasting cycle will automatically commence.
Note! If the toaster is not plugged in and
switched on at the power point the carriage control lever will not click into place.
• The toaster turns off when the desired
toast colour is achieved and automatically raises the toast. The toasting process can be stopped at any time by pressing the cancel button (4).
Browning Setting. Press the carriage control
lever down until it clicks into place then press the Frozen Button (3).
Reheating Toast
The toaster allows you to reheat toast without additional toasting. To reheat, place toast into bread slots, lower the carriage control lever until it clicks into place and press the Reheat Button (5).
Care and Cleaning
• Always turn the power off, remove the
plug and allow the toaster to cool before cleaning.
• To remove any crumbs from the toaster,
slide out the crumb tray from under the toaster, empty and replace in the toaster before using it again.
• Wipe the outside of the toaster with a
slightly dampened cloth and polish with a soft dry cloth. Do not immerse in water.
• To clean the interior, turn the toaster
upside down over the sink and shake crumbs free.
