Ethernet, Token Ring, and ARCNET versions.
Ethernet and Token Ring adapters include matching Modular Media Units.
Modular Media Units are all interchangeable— substitute one unit for another for flexible connectivity options.
Adapters connect to your PC’s parallel printer port—no internal cards needed!
Support for all types of parallel ports.
N
o matter where you go, you
can connect your notebook to an Ethernet or a Token Ring LAN regardless of the cabling system, topology, or operating system, thanks to Modular Parallel Adapters and Modular Media Units.
Installation is easy —there are no jumpers or configuration switches to set. You can even use the adapters for workstations that have a limited number of internal expansion slots.
Modular Parallel Adapters connect externally to your PC’s parallel printer port, eliminating the need to install internal cards. The adapters support all types of parallel ports, including PS/2
®
, unidirectional, bidirectional, and Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP).
All Ethernet or Token Ring adapters come with one of several types of Modular Media Units preattached to the network end. Each Modular Media Unit is
No matter the cabling or topology,
you can connect to a network
even if your PC doesn’t have
a PCMCIA port!
Key Features
MODULAR PARALLEL ADAPTERS AND MEDIA UNITS
designed for a different interface or set of interfaces. This enables an Ethernet or Token Ring adapter to be the connection point for several common media types.
And because the Modular Media Units are interchangeable, you can substitute one unit for another to connect an adapter to any cable types!
Our Ethernet adapters natively support 10BASE-T on unshielded twisted pair, 10BASE2 on ThinNet, and 10BASE5 AUI.
Token Ring adapters natively support Type 3 cabling.
The ARCNET adapter supports coax and twisted-pair connections simultaneously.
We even have a combination adapter for Token Ring that supports Type 1 and Type 3 cabling—you can swap the two included Modular Media Units as necessary!
All adapters provide diagnostics and self-testing.
They support parallel ports LPT1 through LPT4, interrupt lines IRQ7 and IRQ5, as well as polling mode when no interrupt line is available. In addition, the adapters automatically select unidirectional or bidirectional mode.
Most of our adapters are powered by an included external wallmount supply. However, two Ethernet models (LE073A-R2, LE074A-R2) include a 6-pin miniDIN cable that connects the adapters to your computer’s keyboard port to draw power.
For DOS-only applications, you’ll want our Modular Parallel Mux (LE170). It enables you to attach an adapter and a local printer to the same parallel port on your PC. That means flexibility and savings, so you can keep your reliable system going and going.

You’ll certainly need one or more of these Modular Parallel Adapters if you’re going on the road any time soon. They’re particularly handy for trade-shows demonstrations or conducting on-site consultations or training.
Typical Application
Recognize any of these situations?
• You wait more than 30 minutes to get through to a vendor’s tech support.
• The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you the wrong answer.
• You don’t have a purchase order number and the tech refuses to help you.
• It’s 9 p.m. and you need help, but your vendor’s tech support line is closed.
According to a survey by Data Communications magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say that getting the technical support they need is extremely important when choosing a vendor. But even though network
managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their overall purchase price for a basic service and support contract, the technical support and service they receive falls short of their expectations— and certainly isn’t worth what they paid.
