UEFI BIOS Setup

Introduction

The purpose of this manual is to desc ribe the settings in the AMI UEFI BIOS Setup
program on this motherboard. The Setup program allo ws users to modify the basic
system configuration and save these settings to NVRAM.
UEFI BIOS determines what a computer can do without accessing programs from a
disk. This sys tem controls most of the input and outp ut d evices s uc h as keybo ard,
mouse, s erial ports and d is k drives. BIOS activa tes at the f irst stage of the bo ot ing
process, lo ading and ex ecut ing the op erating s ystem. Some additional features, such
as vir us a nd pass word p rotection or ch ips et fine-t uning op tions are also includ ed in
UEFI BIOS.
The rest of this manual will to guide you through the options and settings in UEFI
BIOS Setup.

Plug and Play Support

This AMI UEF I BIOS s uppo rts the Plug and Play Vers ion 1. 0A spec ificatio n.

EPA Green PC Support

This AMI UEF I BIOS s uppo rts Vers ion 1.03 of the EPA Green PC spec ificat ion.

ACPI Support

AMI ACPI UEFI BIOS support Versio n 1.0/2.0 of Advanced Co nfigur ation a nd
Power interface specification (ACPI). It provides ASL code for power
management and device configuratio n capabilities as defined in the ACPI
specification, developed by Microsoft, Intel and Toshiba.

PCI Bus Support

This AMI UEFI BI OS also suppo rts Vers ion 2.3 of the Intel PCI (Perip he ral
Component Interconnect) local bus specification.

DRAM Support

DDR3 SDRAM (Double Data Rate III Synchronous DRAM) is supported.

In the UEFI BIOS setup ut ility, you will
see General Help description at the top
right corner, and this is provid ing a brief
descriptio n of the selected item.
Navigation Keys for that particular menu
are at the bottom right corner, and you can
use thes e keys to select item and c hange
the settings .

Notice

z The default UEFI BIOS settings apply for most conditions to ensure optimum

performance of the motherboard. If the system becomes unstable after changing
any settings, p leas e load the default sett ings to ensure system’s comp atibility and
stability. Use Load Setup Default under the Exit Menu.

z For better system performance, the UEFI BIOS firmware is being continuously

updated. The UEFI BIOS in formation d es cribed in this manual is fo r your reference
only. The ac tual UEFI BIOS information and settings o n board may be slightly
different from this manual.

z The content of this manual is subject to b e changed without not ice. We will not be

Shows system memory size, VGA s hard memory will be excluded.

Set the system date. Note that the ‘Day’ automatically changes when you set the
date.

System Time

Set t he s ystem internal cloc k.

Access Level

Shows the access level of current user.

Hyper-threading

When the computer is booted up, the operating s ystem executes the CPUID
instructio n to ident ify the p rocessor and its capabilities. Before it can do so, it mus t
first query the processor to find out the highest input value CPUID recognizes. This
determines the kind of b asic information CPUID can provide the operating system.

Execute-Disable Bit

XD can prevent certain classes of malicious buffer overflow attacks when combined
with a supporting OS (Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP SP2, SuSE Linux

9.2, RedHat Enterp r ise 3 Update 3.).

Hardware Prefetcher

The processor has a hardware prefetcher that automatically analyzes its requirements
and prefe tc hes data and instr uctions from the memory into the Level 2 c ach e that are
likely to be required in the near future. This reduces the latency associated with
memory reads.

Adjacent Cache Line Prefetch

The p rocessor has a hard ware adjacent cache line p refetch mechanism t hat
automatically fetches an extra 64-byte cache line whenever the processor requests for
a 64-byte cache line. This reduces cache lat enc y by making the next c ache line
immediately availab le if the processor requires it as well.

DVMT/FIXED Memory Size

DVMT stands for “Dynamic Video Memory Technology”. This is an enhancement
of the unified memory architecture (UMA) concept. DVMT will s et the optimum
amount of memory to be allocated for a b alance between graphics and system
performance. DVMT dynamically respo nd to system requirements and applications
demands, by allocating the proper amount of display, texturing and buffer memory
after the operating system has booted.
