Subject: EGR Gases Must Not be Used for Bendix Air Compressor Intake Source
Bendix specifications do not allow the intake source of air for Bendix air compressors to be connected to any area
of the engine that may contain EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) gases.
EGR gases typically include varying amounts of sulfuric oxides and soot (carbon). Sulfuric oxides can combine
with water (or water vapor) to form sulfuric acid which can damage components of the air system, while carbon
can cause accelerated wear of the compressor and can accumulate in air components restricting the air flow.
Improper use of a compressor with EGR gases in the air intake can void the warranty for the compressor and/or
other Bendix components in the air brake system.
