Terminals marked with this symbol
carry electrical current of sucient
magnitude to constitute risk
of electric shock. Useonly high-quality
commercially-available speaker cables
with ¼"TS plugs pre-installed. Allother
installation or modication should be
performed only by qualiedpersonnel.
This symbol, wherever it appears,
alerts you to the presence of
uninsulated dangerous voltage
inside the enclosure -voltage that may be
sucient to constitute a risk ofshock.
This symbol, wherever it appears,
alertsyou to important operating
and maintenance instructions in the
accompanying literature. Please read themanual.
Condenser microphones are
extremely moisture-sensitive.
Never use your microphone in close
proximity to water (e.g. bath tubs, wash basins,
sinks, washing machines, pools, etc.).
Caution
Always use the power
supply specied in the
operating instructions.
Caution
Take care not to drop your
microphone as this can lead to
severe damage. BEHRINGER assumes no liability
for any damage caused by the user.
After each use, wipe the
microphone down with a soft cloth
and place it back into its
protective casing (included with the
microphone). The small bag containing the
moisture-absorbing crystals should remain in
the casing to help keep your microphone dry.
Caution
Never dismount the screen holding
the capsule, as this can damage
the microphone! Never try to modify the printed
circuit board inside your C-1U! This can lead to
microphone damage that cannot be repaired.
Any such attempt will void the warranty.
In exceptional cases, external interference
(e.g. contact and electrostatic discharge) may
aect the functioning of the unit and result in
audio or functional impairment. In any such
case, please disconnect the unit briey from the
USB port and restart the application to return to
normal operation.
The sound quality may diminish within the
range of powerful broadcasting stations and
high-frequency sources. Increase the distance
between the transmitter and the device and use
shielded cables for all connections.

Your C-1U fea tures a capsule wi th a cardioid pick up pattern and is i deal for recordin g
individ ual instrument s, vocals and speec h. Cardioid pick up pattern means t hat the sound
produce d by sources locate d in front of the mic is s trongly picked up. I t is often used
in record ing situations, sin ce this directi vity patter n tones down the pick up of sounds
located t o the back of the micr ophone.
To place the micr ophone correc tly, the BEHRINGER logo ne eds to face the soun d source
being recorded.
2. Mounting the Microphone
There is an ad apter on your microp hone that lets you mo unt it on mic stands w ith
either me tric (Europe) or imper ial-gauge threa ds (North Ameri ca). First dismantle t he
microphone from the stand mount adapter by detaching the ne-thread shoulder screw
at the bot tom end of the microp hone. Fasten the adapte r onto the micropho ne stand,
place the microphone into it and tighten the screw again.
Basical ly, the microphone in th e stand mount adap ter should stand up right and face the
sound sou rce at a right angle. The a ngle of the microph one to the sound sour ce inuences
the sound of the recording; therefore, experiment with dierent positions until you
achieve th e desired sound. To this e nd, you can rotate the m ic in the stand mount a dapter
by loosening the screw somewhat and tightening it again.
If necess ary, you can bend the m icrophone out of i ts vertical po sition by using the hi nge
on the micr ophone stand.
◊ Please ma ke sure to handle the m icrophone sha ft with attent ion and care
to avoid damaging the screw thread. In no situation should you ever apply
excessive force.
Of cour se, you can detach th e C-1U from the s tand mount adapter a nd attach it to a
commercially available suspension mount.

3. Installing the Microphone
3.1 Technical requirements
Your C-1U mic rophone comes wi th a USB connector. The au dio signal is sent fr om the
microph one to the computer th rough this connec tion. At the same t ime the computer us es
the USB conne ction to supply th e microphone wit h the necessar y power. A connection i s
made by using t he included USB cabl e with type- B connector.
◊ Use only the included cable to ensure an optimal signal quality and a reliable
power supply.
To operate the C-1U, your computer needs to meet the following system requirements:
PCMac
Intel or AMD CP U, 1GHz or higherG4/G5, 800 MHz o r higher
minimum 512 MB RAMminimum 512 MB RAM
USB 2.0 interfaceUSB 2.0 inter face
Windows XP/Vista
3.2 Initial operation
Before yo u can use your C-1U, connect i t to a free USB port on yo ur computer.
For initia l operation of your C-1U, complete the follow ing steps:
1) Power up your co mputer.
2) Connect your C-1U to a free USB port o n your computer.
◊ Your operating system automatically installs the required drivers.
3) Select t he C-1U as input so urce in your prefer red audio sof tware applicat ion.
Windows:
4) Adjust the reco rding level as requ ired, using the Wind ows Volume Control panel.

Mac OS:
5) Adjust the record ing level as require d, using Audio Midi Setup in Mac OS.
◊ Your C‑1U is now read y for use.
Complete t he following step s should you want to use yo ur C-1U by defaul t in
other applications:
Windows:
• Selec t the C-1U in the pul l-down menu of Sound recording by clic king
on Sounds and Audio Devices in the Cont rol Panel and then c licking the tab Audio
Mac OS:
• Selec t C-1U as Default Input found unde r the tab Audio Devices in Audio Midi Setup
of Mac OS
4. Using the Microphone
To get the sound y ou want, try chang ing the mic positio n relative to the soun d source or
even move the mi crophone aroun d in the recording ro om of your studio. Adj usting the
angle at whi ch walls face the soun d source can also be h elpful. Only when t he desired
basic sou nd has been achieved , should you star t to use equalizers a nd signal process ors,
if any at all (remem ber: less is of ten more!).
Due to the ex tremely linear f requency re sponse and the high s onic resolution o f your C-1U,
there is no need for high-frequency “EQing” that can heavily inuence the signal and
unnecessarily increase the noise level. The C-1U provides that much-desired transparenc y
which of ten gets lost du ring recording an d mixing.
