ThisdocumentexplainstheprerequisitesandguidelinesforimplementationoftheAXISPerimeterDefenderautomatedintrusion
detectionsystem.

Scenariorequirements

AXISPerimeterDefenderissuitablefordetectinghumansorvehiclesintrudingasterilezone.Asterilezoneisanareawherehumans
orvehiclesarenotexpected.AXISPerimeterDefenderisintendedforthefollowingscenarios:

•Perimeterprotectionofindustrialsitesorcriticalinfrastructures

•Zoneprotectionofsensitivefacilities,storagesites,recyclingsites,oranyoutdoorprivateareas

•Peripheralprotectionofstores,warehouses,companybuildingsorprivatehouses

Prerequisitesforeffectiveimplementation

ForAXISPerimeterDefendertoperformmosteffectively,thefollowingprerequisitesareneeded:

•Humansorvehiclestobedetectedarefullyvisible(fromfeettohead)intheimageduringatleast2secondsandarenot
obscuredbyotherxedormovingobjects.

•Humansorvehiclestobedetectedaremovingonahorizontalplaneoraslightslope.

•Thecamerahasaxedeldofview.

•Thelevelofilluminationandcamerasettingsshouldbesufcienttoprovideenoughcontrastbetweenhumansorvehicles
andthebackground.Werecommendatleast50luxinthewholedetectionareawhenusinganAxisday-and-night
camerawitharticiallighting.

-WhenusingexternalIRspots,therecommendedMaximumDetectionDistanceis80m(260ft).TheIRspot
shouldhaveamaximumdistancegreaterthantwicetheMaximumDetectionDistance.

-Whenusingbuilt-inIRlight,theMaximumDetectionDistanceislimitedtomaximum20m(66ft)depending
onthecameraandtheenvironment.

•Toavoidinterferencefrominsects,wedonotrecommendusingthecamera’sbuilt-inIRlight(especiallycameraswith
sunshield).

•Smallcameravibrationsaretoleratedbutmaximumperformancesarereachedforcameraswhicharenotsubject
tovibrations.

•Theminimumframerateis8fps(notethatsimultaneousviewsofthecameravideostreamthroughtheAxiswebserver
canreducetheframeratetobelow8fps).

•Forphysicalinstallationrequirements,werecommendusingtheAXISPerimeterDefenderCameraPlacementTool.Thetool
takesintoaccountbothAxiscamerasandAXISPerimeterDefenderrequirements.
