Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage40.

ClicktheEmulatejoystickmodebuttonandclickintheimagetomovethecameraviewinthedirectionofthe mousepointer.

ClicktheCentermodebuttonandclickintheimagetocenterthecameraviewonthatposition.

Thecentermodebuttoncouldalsobeusedtozoominonaspecicarea.Clickintheimageanddragtodrawa rectanglesurroundingtheareatobemagnied.Tozoomout,rotatethemousewheel.

PanandTiltbars–Usethearrowstopanandtiltthecameraview,orclickona positiononthebartosteerthecameraviewtothatposition.

Zoombar–Usethearrowstozoominandout,orclickonapositiononthebarto zoomtothatposition.

Focusbar–Usethearrowstofocusthecamera,orclickonapositiononthebar tosetthefocusposition.Usingthefocusbarwilldisabletheproduct’sautofocus. Tore-enable,usethePTZcontrolpanelwhichisopenedbyclickingtheCtrlpanel button(seeabove).

Irisbar–Clickonapositiontosetamanualexposureleveltomaketheimagebrighter ordarker.Thiswilldisableautoiris(automaticexposure)andsetxedlevelsoniris, gainandshutterspeed.Tore-enableautoiris,usethePTZcontrolpanelwhichis openedbyclickingtheCtrlpanelbutton(seeabove).Ifautoirisisenabled,Autois visiblenexttotheIrisbarbar,seebelow.

HowtoStreamH.264

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

Thisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused forliveunicastvideo,especiallywhenitis importanttoalwayshaveanup-to-datevideo stream,evenifsomeframesaredropped.

Thisunicastmethod(RTPtunneledoverRTSP) isusefulasitisrelativelysimpletocongure rewallstoallowRTSPtrafc.

Thisunicastmethodcanbeusedtotraverse rewalls.Firewallsarecommonlyconguredto allowtheHTTPprotocol,thusallowingRTPto betunneled.

Thismethod(RTPoverUDP)shouldbeusedforlivemulticastvideo.Thevideostreamisalways up-to-date,evenifsomeframesaredropped. Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofbandwidthwhentherearelargenumbersof clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossibletomulticastovertheInternet,forexample. Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20 simultaneousconnections.

Unicastingisusedforvideo-on-demand transmissionsothatthereisnovideotrafc onthenetworkuntilaclientconnectsand requeststhestream. Notethatthereareamaximumof20 simultaneousunicastconnections.

MJPEG

ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.

TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

H.264,alsoknownasMPEG-4Part10/AVC,isavideocompressionstandardthatprovideshighqualityvideostreamsatlowbitrates. AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.

TheH.264streamsettingscanbeconguredfromtheVideo>VideoStreampage.SelecttheH.264tab.Thesettingsdenedinthis pagewillapplytoallH.264streamsthatdonotuseastreamprole.

TheGOVlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOVlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.

TheAxisproductsupportsthefollowingH.264prole(s):

•Baseline.TheBaselineproleisrecommendedforclientsthatdon’tsupportCABACentropycoding.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting Constantbitrate(CBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat limitsthebandwidthconsumption.

TheCBRtargetbitrateworksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitsthebitrate,whilemaintainingsomeexibility.Thebitratemaybounce upanddownwithinthesettargetbutwhenitnearsthesettargetvalue,thelimitationkicksin.However,becauseCBRwillalways prioritizeacontinuousvideostream,itallowstemporaryovershootsfromthetargetbitrate.Becausesettingatargetvalueprevents thebitratefromincreasing,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,selectwhichvariable shallbeprioritized,framerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequallyaffected.

Sometimestheimagesizeislargeduetolowlightorcomplexscenery.Adjustingthemaximumframesizehelpstocontrolthe bandwidthandstorageusedbytheMotionJPEGvideostreaminthesesituations.SettingtheframesizetotheDefaultsetting providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusage,butmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage, themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.

IncreasingtheColorlevelincreasesthecolorsaturation.Thevalue100givesmaximumcolorsaturation.Thevalue0givesa blackandwhiteimage.

TheimageBrightnesscanbeadjustedintherange0–100,whereahighervalueproducesabrighterimage.

IncreasingtheSharpnesscanincreasebandwidthusage.Asharperimagemightincreaseimagenoiseespeciallyinlowlight conditions.Alowersettingreducesimagenoise,butthewholeimagewillappearlesssharp.

WhiteBalance

Whitebalanceisusedtomakecolorsintheimageappearthesameregardlessofthecolortemperatureofthelightsource.TheAxis productcanbesettoautomaticallyidentifythelightsourceandcompensateforitscolor.Alternatively,selectthetypeoflight

WideDynamicRange

Widedynamicrange(DynamicContrast)canimprovetheexposurewhenthereisaconsiderablecontrastbetweenlightanddark areasintheimage.EnableWDRinintensebacklightconditions.DisableWDRinlowlightconditionsforoptimalexposure.

ExposureSettings

Conguretheexposuresettingstosuittheimagequalityrequirementsinrelationtolighting,framerateandbandwidth considerations.

Exposurecontrol-Thesesettingsisusedtoadapttotheamountoflightused.Automaticisthedefaultsettingscanbeusedinmost situations.Theshutterspeedisautomaticallysettoproduceoptimumimagequality.

Maxexposuretime-Selectthemaximumexposuretimefromthedrop-downlist.Increasingtheexposuretimewillimprove imagequality,butdecreasetheframerate.Theremayalsobeanincreaseinmotionblur.CheckingAllowslowshutterdecreases theshutterspeedinlowlighttoimproveimagebrightness.

EnableBacklightcompensation-Enablethisoptionifabrightspotoflight,forexamplealightbulb,causesotherareasin theimagetoappeartoodark.

Exposurezones-Thissettingsdetermineswhichpartoftheimageisusedtocalculatetheexposure.Formostsituations,theAuto settingcanbeused.Forparticularrequirement,selectapredenedarea.

Maxgain-Measuredindecibels(dB),gaindescribestheamountofamplicationappliedtoasignal,inthiscasethevisual informationintheimage.Ahighlevelofamplicationmayprovideabetterimageinverylowlightsituations.Ahighgainwillalso increasetheamountofimagenoise.

Day/Night

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditions,forexampleatnight,orwhen usinganexternalIRlamp,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.

IfusingautomaticExposurecontrol,settheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe lightingconditions.

Important

Theautofocusbehaviorisaffectedbyfactorssuchaslightconditions,contrastsinthescene,andobjectsmovinginandout.In theseconditionsorscenes,amanualfocuscouldbepreferabletoenhanceperformanceandallowthecameratofocusfaster.

Autofocusenabled-Autofocusenablesthecameratofocusalthoughthedistancetodifferentobjectsofinterestisconstantly changing.Wheneverthecamera’span/tilt/zoompositionischanged,theautofocusperformsasearchtondtheidealfocuspoint. Automaticfocusingisenabledbydefault.Ifthefocuspositionischangedmanuallyusingthefocusbar,autofocuswillbedisabled evenifenabledinImageSettings.Inthiscase,usethePTZcontrolpaneltoenableautofocus,seepage10.Ifrequired,thefocus controlcanbedisabledunderPTZ>Advanced>Controls.

ImagefreezeonPTZ-SelectAllmovementstofreezetheimagewhilethecameraismovingduringapan,tiltorzoomoperation. Oncethecamerareachesitsnewposition,theviewfromthatpositionisshown.Presetsfreezestheimageonlywhenthecamera movesbetweenpresetpositions.

Overlay

Overlaysareusedtoprovideextrainformation,forexampleforforensicvideoanalysisorduringproductinstallationand conguration.Overlaysaresuperimposedoverthevideostream.

Touseanoverlayimage,theimagemustrstbeuploadedtotheAxisproduct.TheuploadedimageshouldbeaWindows24-bitBMP imagewithmaximum250colors.Theimagewidthandheight,inpixels,mustbeexactlydivisibleby4andcannotbelargerthanthe maximumimageresolution.Ifcombiningtextandimageoverlays,takeintoconsiderationthatthetextoverlayoccupies16or32 pixelsinheight(dependingontheresolution)andhasthesamewidthasthevideoimage.

ThePrivacyMaskList,Video>PrivacyMask,showsallthemasksthatarecurrentlyconguredintheAxisproductandindicates iftheyareenabled.

SincethePan/Tilt/Zoomcoordinatesdeneitssizeandposition,aprivacymaskisdynamicinrelationtothemonitoredarea.This meansthatregardlessoftheangleandzoomofthelens,thesameplaceorobjectwillbehidden.Todeneatwhatmagnicationthe maskshouldbedisplayed,zoomtothedesiredlevelandclickSetlevel.

Denethepan,tilt,zoomandfocuslimitsfortheAxisproduct.Movementstotheleftandright,upanddown,canberestrictedto narrowtheareaundersurveillance.

Nearfocuslimitisusedtopreventthecamerafromautofocusingonobjectsclosetothecamera.Thisway,thecameracanignore objectssuchasoverheadwires,streetlights,orothercamerasplacedclosetothecamera.

Whenusingajoystick(oremulatingonewiththemouse)theEnableproportionalspeedsettingcanbeusedtoreducethemaximum pan/tiltmovementspeed,i.e.thespeedthecameraviewmovesatwhenthejoystickispushedallthewayoutinanydirection.Thisis usefulthentheviewiszoomedinonanobject.

WhenEnableAuto-ipisselected,theAxisproductwillsimulatecontinuouspanmovementinthesamedirection,i.e.thecamera willpanthefull360degrees,eventhoughthereisamechanicalstopat±180degrees.

UpgradetheFirmware

•Preconguredandcustomizedsettingsaresavedwhenthermwareisupgraded(providingthefeaturesareavailableinthe

newrmware)althoughthisisnotguaranteedbyAxisCommunicationsAB.

•Aftertheupgradeprocesshascompleted,theproductwillrestartautomatically.Ifrestartingtheproductmanuallyafterthe
