data.Therefore,AxisproductsbehindNetworkAddressTranslation(NAT)devicessuchasnetworkroutersneedtousespecial
protocolsforNATtraversal(portforwarding)sothatincomingcallscanbelinkedtothecorrecthost.
WithoutSIP-specicportforwarding,usersofclientswithinthesameprivatenetworkwouldbeabletotalktoeachother
(peer-to-peercommunication)butusersofclientsindifferentnetworkswouldnot.

InteractiveConnectivityEstablishment(ICE)enablestheproducttosendarequestthatincludesmultipleaddressestothereceiving
device.Initsresponse,thereceivingdevicealsoincludesmultipleaddresses.Throughaprocessofconnectivitychecks,alsocalled
handshakes,thechannelforcommunicationisestablished.
ICEincreasesthechancesofndingthemostefcientpathtosuccessfulcommunicationbetweenpeerdevices.Ifyoualsoenable
STUNandTURN,youimprovetheICEprotocol’schancesofndingthemostefcientpathtosuccessfulcommunication,notjust
betweenpeersbutbetweenalldevicesoneithersideoftheNATdevice.

SessionTraversalUtilitiesforNAT(STUN)
SessionTraversalUtilitiesforNAT(STUN)isaclient-servernetworkprotocolthatenablestheproducttoaskaSTUNserveronthe
InternetforamappedpublicIPaddress.TheSTUNserverresponseincludesthisIPaddressandportsothattheclientcanusethem
initsSIPmessagestootherhostsandclients.
LikeTURN,STUNcanbeusedinfull-cone,address-restrictedcone,andport-restrictedconeNATsetups.STUNisfastbecauseit
islightweight.However,STUNdoesnotallowincomingmessagesfromsymmetricNATs,anditcannotcommunicatewithapeer
behindthesameNATdevice.
TousetheSTUNprotocolforNATtraversal,selectEnableSTUN.ThenentertheaddressoftheSTUNserver.
TraversalUsingRelaysaroundNAT(TURN)
TraversalUsingRelaysaroundNAT(TURN)isaclient-servernetworkprotocolthatenablestheproducttoaskaTURNserverfora
mappedIPaddress.TheTURNserverrespondswithitsIPaddressandportsothattheclientcanusetheminitsSIPmessages.
