ToaccesstheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongureRoot Passworddialog,whichopenswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.

Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage41.

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe resettothefactorydefaultsettings.SeeResettoFactoryDefaultSettingsonpage50.

TosetthepasswordviaastandardHTTPconnection,enteritdirectlyinthedialog.

TosetthepasswordviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,followthesesteps:

Atemporarycerticate(validforoneyear)iscreated,enablingencryptionofalltrafctoandfromtheproduct,andthe passwordcannowbesetsecurely.

2.Enterapasswordandthenre-enterittoconrmthespelling.

3.ClickOK.Thepasswordhasnowbeencongured.

SetPowerLineFrequency

PowerlinefrequencyissetthersttimetheAxisproductisaccessedandcanonlybechangedfromPlainCong(seepage50) orbyresettingtheproducttofactorydefault.

Selectthepowerlinefrequency(50Hzor60Hz)usedatthelocationoftheAxisproduct.Selectingthewrongfrequencymaycause imageickeriftheproductisusedinuorescentlightenvironments.

Whenusing50Hz,themaximumframerateislimitedto25fps.

Powerlinefrequencyvariesdependingongeographicregion.TheAmericasusuallyuse60Hz,whereasmostotherpartsof theworlduse50Hz.Localvariationscouldapply.Alwayscheckwiththelocalauthorities.

Theproduct’sheateriscontrolledbytheambienttemperatureandisturnedonandoffautomatically. Ifrequired,theheatercanbeactivatedmanuallybyclickingtheHeaterbutton.Toshowthebutton, gotoSetup>LiveViewCong.UnderActionButtons,selectShowheaterbuttonandspecifythe numberofminutestheheatershouldbeactivated.

WiththePTZControlQueueenabledthetimeeachuserisincontrolofthePTZsettingsislimited.Clickthebuttonstorequestor releasecontrolofthePTZcontrols.ThePTZControlQueueissetupunderPTZ>ControlQueue.

SelectFocuswindowtodeneanareaofthecamera'simagethatfocusshouldbeappliedon.Ifthefocuswindowissetfrom theLiveViewpage,anychangeinthecamerapositionwillreturntheautofocustotheentirewindow.Tosetapermanentfocus window,seePresetPositionsonpage24

ClicktheEmulatejoystickmodebuttonandclickintheimagetomovethecameraviewinthedirectionofthe mousepointer.

TheAxisproductprovidesseveralvideostreamformats.Yourrequirementsandthepropertiesofyournetworkwilldeterminethe typeyouuse.

TheLiveViewpageintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreams,andtothelistofavailablestream proles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheLiveViewpage.

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

Thisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused forliveunicastvideo,especiallywhenitis importanttohaveanup-to-datevideostream, evenifsomeframesaredropped.

Thisunicastmethod(RTPtunneledoverRTSP) isusefulasitisrelativelysimpletocongure rewallstoallowRTSPtrafc.

Thisunicastmethodcanbeusedtotraverse rewalls.Firewallsarecommonlyconguredto allowtheHTTPprotocol,thusallowingRTPto betunneled.

Thismethod(RTPoverUDP)shouldbeusedforlivemulticastvideo.Thevideostreamisalways up-to-date,evenifsomeframesaredropped. Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofbandwidthwhentherearelargenumbersof clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossibletomulticastovertheInternet,forexample. Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20 simultaneousconnections.

Unicastingisusedforvideo-on-demand transmissionsothatthereisnovideotrafc onthenetworkuntilaclientconnectsand requeststhestream. Notethatthereareamaximumof20 simultaneousunicastconnections.

MJPEG

ThisformatusesstandardJPEGstillimagesforthevideostream.Theseimagesarethendisplayedandupdatedataratesufcient tocreateastreamthatshowsconstantlyupdatedmotion.

TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

H.264,alsoknownasMPEG-4Part10/AVC,isavideocompressionstandardthatprovideshighqualityvideostreamsatlowbitrates. AnH.264videostreamconsistsofdifferenttypesofframessuchasI-framesandP-frames.AnI-frameisacompleteimagewhereas P-framesonlycontainthedifferencesfrompreviousframes.

TheH.264streamsettingscanbeconguredfromtheVideo>VideoStreampage.SelecttheH.264tab.Thesettingsdenedinthis pagewillapplytoallH.264streamsthatdonotuseastreamprole.

TheGOPlengthisthenumberofframesbetweentwoconsecutiveI-frames.IncreasingtheGOPlengthmaysaveconsiderablyon bandwidthrequirementsinsomecases,butmayalsohaveanadverseaffectonimagequality.

TheAxisproductsupportsthefollowingH.264prole(s):

•Main.TheMainproleprovideshighercompressionwithmaintainedvideoqualitycomparedtotheBaselineprolebut requiresmoreprocessingpowertodecode.

ThebitratecanbesetasVariablebitrate(VBR)orConstantbitrate(CBR).VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtotheimage complexity,usingupmorebandwidthforincreasedactivityintheimage,andlessforlowerimageactivity.Whentheactivityin thesceneincreases,thebitratewouldusuallyincreaseaswell.Ifthereisasurplusinbandwidth,thismaynotbeanissueand selectingVariablebitrate(VBR)willbesufcient.Butifbandwidthislimited,itisrecommendedtocontrolthebitratebyselecting Constantbitrate(CBR).Whentheactivityinthesceneincreases,VBRadjuststhebitrateaccordingtothecomplexity,usingup morebandwidthforincreasedactivityinthescene,andlessforlowersceneactivity.CBRallowsyoutosetatargetbitratethat limitsthebandwidthconsumption.

TheCBRtargetbitrateworksliketheceilingofatent.Itlimitsthebitrate,whilemaintainingsomeexibility.Thebitratemaybounce upanddownwithinthesettargetbutwhenitnearsthesettargetvalue,thelimitationkicksin.However,becauseCBRwillalways prioritizeacontinuousvideostream,itallowstemporaryovershootsfromthetargetbitrate.Becausesettingatargetvalueprevents thebitratefromincreasing,framerateandimagequalityareaffectednegatively.Topartlycompensateforthis,selectwhichvariable shallbeprioritized,framerateorimagequality.Notsettingaprioritymeansthatframerateandimagequalityareequallyaffected.

Sometimestheimagesizeislargeduetolowlightorcomplexscenery.Adjustingthemaximumframesizehelpstocontrolthe bandwidthandstorageusedbytheMotionJPEGvideostreaminthesesituations.SettingtheframesizetotheDefaultsetting providesconsistentlygoodimagequalityattheexpenseofincreasedbandwidthandstorageusageinlowlight.Limitingtheframe sizeoptimizesbandwidthandstorageusage,butmaygivepoorimagequality.Topreventincreasedbandwidthandstorageusage, themaximumframesizeshouldbesettoanoptimalvalue.

WhiteBalance

Whitebalanceisusedtomakecolorsintheimageappearthesameregardlessofthecolortemperatureofthelightsource.TheAxis productcanbesettoautomaticallyidentifythelightsourceandcompensateforitscolor.Alternatively,selectthetypeoflight

sourcefromthedrop-downlist.Foradescriptionofeachavailablesetting,seetheonlinehelp

Exposurezones-Thissettingdetermineswhichpartoftheimageisusedtocalculatetheexposure.Formostsituations,theAuto settingcanbeused. Shutter&Gain

Theshutterandgainsettingsaffecttheamountofmotionblurandnoiseintheimage.Toadapttodifferentlighting,available storagespaceandbandwidth,itisoftennecessarytoprioritizeeitherlowmotionblurorlownoise.TheAxisproductallows usingdifferentprioritizationinnormallightandinlowlight.

Shutterspeedisrelatedtotheamountoftimetheshutterisopenedandismeasuredinseconds(s).Aslowshutterspeedallows morelighttoreachthesensorandcanhelpproduceabrighterimageinlowlightsituations.Ontheotherhand,aslowshutter speedcancausemovingobjectstoappearblurry.

SetShutterto

•Autotosettheshutterspeedautomatically.Ifrequired,useMaxshuttertolimittheshutterspeedtopreventtheframe ratefrombeingreduced.

Forexample,toget30fps,setMaxshutterto1/30.

•Fixedtouseaxedshutterspeed.

Gain,measuredindecibel(dB),istheamountofamplicationappliedtotheimage.Ahighgainmayprovideabetterimageinlow lightsituationsbutwillincreasetheamountofimagenoise.

•Autotosetthegainautomatically.Ifrequired,useMaxgaintolimittheappliedgain.

•Fixedtouseaxedgain.

WhenShutterandGainarebothsettoAuto,itispossibletosetthePrioritybetweenlowmotionblurandlownoisemanuallyandto useadifferentPriorityinNormalLightandinLowLight.

Example Consideranareawherepeopleorvehiclesmoveduringtheday,butwherethereshouldbenomovementsduringnight.Tobeableto,

forexample,recognizefacesorlicenseplates,movethenormallightpriorityslidertowardlowmotionblur.Atnighttime,motion detectionismoreimportantthanidentication.Motionblurisacceptableandsincelowlightcancausealotofnoise,move thelowlightpriorityslidertowardlownoise.

Example Ifstoragespaceorbandwidthislimited,tryusingalowergain.Thiswillreduceimagenoiseandproducesmallerimageles.

Day/Night

TheIRcutlterpreventsinfrared(IR)lightfromreachingtheimagesensor.Inpoorlightingconditions,forexampleatnight,orwhen usinganexternalIRlamp,settheIRcutltertoOff.Thisincreaseslightsensitivityandallowstheproductto“see”infraredlight.The imageisshowninblackandwhitewhentheIRcutlterisoff.

IfusingautomaticExposurecontrol,settheIRcutltertoAutotoautomaticallyswitchbetweenOnandOffaccordingtothe lightingconditions.

TheDay/Nightshiftlevelbarhelpsdeterminewhenthecamerawillshiftfromdaymodetonightmode.Normally,thecamera automaticallychangesmodefromdaytonightwhenverydark(level100intheslider).BysettingDay/Nightshiftleveltoa lowervalue,thecamerawillchangetonightmodeearlier.

Overlay

Overlaysareusedtoprovideextrainformation,suchasforensicvideoanalysisorduringproductinstallationandconguration. Overlaysaresuperimposedoverthevideostream.
