Installing the Avaya WLAN Indoor Access Points WAP912X and WAP913X Series

Quick Installation Guide
For WAP912X and WAP913X Models
The WAP912X and WAP913X Series Wireless Access Points (WAPs) are a new class of low cost, zero touch WAP within the Avaya wireless portfolio. With two 802.11ac or two
802.11n radios, a powerful integrated controller, application-level intelligence, and automated provisioning, the WAPs deliver robust wireless connectivity.
This Guide covers the steps required to install the WAP on a ceiling or wall and connect and start the WAP. For detailed configuration information, refer to Using the Avaya OS for Avaya WLAN AP 9100 Series (NN47252-102).
You Need the Following Items
Power and Ethernet connection(s) to your wired network using Cat 5e or Cat 6 cables. The
WAP has two Gigabit Ethernet ports:
GIGABIT1/PoE+This port powers the WAP via Power over Ethernet (PoE) using a
Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable that also carries data traffic. Power may be provided by an 802.3at PoE+ compliant switch or an Avaya-supplied PoE+ injector. If using an injector, you must provide a data connection from the switch to the injector as well as another cable from the injector's OUT port to the GIGABIT1/PoE+ port. PoE+ injectors require an AC outlet.
(Optional) GIGABIT2Connection to this second, data-only Gigabit port provides
additional bandwidth. Use Cat 5E or Cat 6 cable.
NOTE: The WAP must be connected to PoE networks without routing cabling to the outside plant. This ensures that cabling is not exposed to lightning strikes or possible crossover from high voltage lines. Avaya PoE+ Injectors or Switches must be installed and used indoors.
Workstation with a Web browser to configure the WAP via the Wireless LAN Orchestration
System (WOS) or directly via the Windows Management Interface (WMI).
Ceiling Mount
appropriate for the construction material of the ceiling (we recommend max screw size #8, Pan Head type).
you may mount directly to a ceiling. Use two user-supplied screws that are
Suspended Ceiling Grid Mountyou may mount directly to a 15/16” standard grid with no accessories. For other grid types, or for easy detachment plus the ability to lock the unit in place, use a mounting plate (shown below). You also need T-Bar clips (ordered separately)

or a T-Bar Bracket (for slotted ceiling grid, T-slot bolts are available on request for attaching T-Bar Bracket to slots in grid).
(Optional) The following accessory kits may be used for ceiling or wall mount.
Ceiling Mount Accessory Kit Wall Mount Accessory Kit
The Ceiling Mount Kit contains a mounting plate, locking plate, locking slug, and three screws (1/4” Plastite). The Wall Mount Kit contains a mounting plate, wall mount bracket, locking slug, and three screws (1/4” Plastite).
You need a 7/16” nut driver to attach the mounting plate to the bracket or clips. (See “Install Mounting Hardware and WAP” on page 3.)
For a locked installation, supply a zip-tie, small lock, or other locking hardware.
Phillips head screwdriver (to attach the wall mounting plate or ceiling locking plate to the
WAP mounting plate).
Choose a Suitable Location
The WAP can be installed on the ceiling or on a wall or may be placed on a shelf.
Choose a location that is central to your users. Refer to the Using the Avaya OS for Avaya
WLAN AP 9100 Series (NN47252-102).
The location must be capable of supporting the weight of the WAP and the mounting
bracket (about 2 pounds total).
For optimal placement, we recommend that a predictive survey be performed by a qualified
Avaya partner.
Maintain a distance of at least 50 feet between additional WAPs.
Keep the unit away from electrical devices or appliances that generate RF noise-at least 3 to
6 feet (1 to 2 meters).
