Quick Start: Setup
Connect the Audio and Video Out
Since there are two audio/video players in the AD-8000 unit (the DVD player and the
DV-R digital recorder/player) you have several options for connecting the audio and
video out signals to your TV, stereo, etc.
1. Connecting the DVD and DV-R Output to One Monitor/Television
Connect A/V cables from the back of the AD-8000 under DVD-DV-R/TV Video and the
DVD/DV-R Audio Out, as shown in the diagram below. The other end of that cable will
connect to your Televison/Monitor under Audio and Video In.

on
Video Formats: Capacity vs. Quality
The AD-8000 has two disc drives. The drive on the left is a DVD drive that plays media
in DVD, VCD, SVCD and other formats. The drive on the right also plays and records
digital media, but only in CD-DA (digital audio), VCD, and SVCD formats. (You cannot
copy a DVD directly to a blank DVD disc because of DVD patent restrictions, but you
can copy a DVD to other digital formats.)
Use the information in the following table to predict how many CDs will be needed to
copy a DVD onto SVCD or VCD formatted discs (which hold less information than DVD
discs).
The AD-8000 will only record onto CD-R and CD-RW discs.
Format Quality Capacity Description1
SVCD Up to 350 lines 40 minutes Super Video Compact Discs can hold up to 40
minutes of video. You would need three SVCD formatted discs to copy video from an average
two-hour DVD.
VCD Up to 250 lines 80 minutes A Video Compact Disc can hold up to 80
minutes of video.
Important Note: Video recorded in VCD format
can Look ''pixelated" (grainy) when it is played on
standard TVs. We do not recommend Recording
video in VCD format.
Quality refers to the number of lines used to display video on your TV screen. The
more lines used to display the picture, the higher the image quality. SVCD displays
350 lines, VCD only 250, so video looks better when recorded in SVCD format.
Because of the higher quality of SVCD recordings, SVCD is the recommended format
for recording videos and DVDs.
