Weather Protective Devices
National Electric Code Compliance
Cooper Wiring Devices offers a broad range of weather protective wiring devices for almost every
application. These distinctively designed, rugged products provide complete protection against
rain, snow, ice, moisture, humidity and dust. They are manufactured in both metals and plastic
materials that are impact-resistant, UV-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.
Cooper’s weather protective products are ideal for applications that include building exteriors,
plant wash down areas and wet locations, loading docks, decks, pool areas, garages, construction
sites, seasonal lighting, and low voltage landscape lighting. Lockable devices are available for
applications that must be secure from tampering or where use must be restricted, such as
schools, hospitals, offices, workshops, vending machines, and unsecured public areas.
A receptacle installed outdoors in a location protected from the weather or in other damp
locations shall have an enclosure for the receptacle that is weatherproof when the receptacle
is covered (attachment plug cap not inserted and receptacle covers closed).
An installation suitable for wet locations shall also be considered suitable for damp locations.
A receptacle shall be considered to be in a location protected from the weather where located
under roofed open porches, canopies, marquees, and the like, and will not be subjected to a
beating rain or water run-off.

Protective Boots
Cooper Wiring Devices weather protective boots protect wiring devices from moisture, acids, dust,
oil, metal chips or other contaminants that can create shock hazards or electrical shorts. They
also minimize the possibility of nuisance tripping on sensitive ground fault protected circuits. In
addition, they provide protection from mechanical shock for devices used in high abuse
applications. Boots meet the IP 55 rating requirements per IEC 521 standard.
All of Cooper’s weather protective devices are UL Listed (except where noted). Many are also
CSA-certified or available as CSA-certified. Please consult our Customer Service for availability.
