1. READ THIS FIRST!

Throughout this manual you will find WARNINGS and/or CAUTIONS printed in bold print. All WARNINGS and CAUTIONS should be read carefully and followed completely. WARNINGS discuss issues that could result in damage to your firearm, or injury or death to you or a bystander. CAUTIONS discuss issues that could result in damage or malfunction of your firearm.

WARNING: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASSURE THAT YOUR FIREARM IS HANDLED, FIRED, AND STORED SAFELY AND RESPONSIBLY AT ALL TIMES.

This manual provides instructions on the operation and maintenance of your ArmaLite® firearm. Read and understand it carefully before you try to use your firearm. Your safety, and that of those around you, depends on your knowledge of your firearm and on your knowledge of safety rules common to all firearms. Please study the common-sense safety rules noted in this manual. Your first responsibility as a gun owner is always safety!

Your second responsibility as a gun owner is security. Make sure that your firearm remains in responsible hands…YOURS! Don’t become an unwitting partner in a crime or tragedy: make sure your firearm is properly secured. Lock it in a secure storage container or, if none is available, remove the slide and barrel and store them separately.

If you have more that one similar firearm, make sure that you specifically identify the removed component with its original firearm because the components may not be interchangeable.

It is also your responsibility to assure that you comply with all federal, state, and local laws with regard to the purchase, ownership, use, and storage of your firearm.

This manual may serve several models of ArmaLite® firearms. If so, instructions which refer to specific models will be clearly marked.

NOTICE

ArmaLite® has no control over the use of your firearm, and shall not be responsible for injury, death, or damage to property resulting from either intentional or accidental discharge of this firearm. In addition, ArmaLite® shall not be responsible for proper function of the firearm when it is used for purposes or subjected to treatment for which it was not intended. ArmaLite® will not honor claims which may result from careless or improper handling, unauthorized adjustments or parts replacement, corrosion, neglect, use of the wrong type or caliber of ammunition, or the use of ammunition other than original, high quality commercially manufactured ammunition in good condition or any combination thereof.

2.SAFETY FIRST! IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

* Treat every gun as if it is loaded …AT ALL TIMES!

*Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.

*Never point your firearm at anything that you do not intend to shoot.

*Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard until you are aiming at your target and ready to shoot.

*Always keep the safety in the “SAFE” position, especially when the firearm is loaded and cocked, until you are ready to fire.

*Always keep and carry your firearm with an empty chamber until you intend to shoot, so that your firearm cannot be fired unintentionally. Firearms should be unloaded when not actually in use.

*Be sure of your target and backstop before you shoot. Ask yourself what your bullet will hit if it misses or goes through the target.

*Never shoot at hard, flat surfaces or water…bullets can ricochet.

*Always wear hearing and eye protection when shooting.

*Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms, or handling ammunition may result in exposure to lead, a substance known to be associated with birth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious injury. Have adequate ventilation at all times and wash hands after handling.

*Be sure that your barrel is clear of obstructions, including excessive oil, grease, cleaning patches, etc before shooting.

*Use only clean, high quality factory loaded ammunition in good condition. ArmaLite® cannot condone the use of handloaded ammunition. Any such use voids the ArmaLite® warranty.

*Do not alter or modify your firearm.

*Do not try to change your firearm’s trigger pull because alterations of trigger pull can affect sear engagement and might cause accidental firing.

*Store firearms and ammunition separately and beyond children’s reach.

IN CASE OF MALFUNCTION, STOP! REVIEW THIS MANUAL TO IDENTIFY AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. IF YOU CANNOT RESOLVE IT, CONTACT ARMALITE®.

KEEP THIS MANUAL WITH YOUR FIREARM. IF YOU SELL THE FIREARM, GIVE THIS MANUAL TO THE NEW OWNER.

WARNING: ALWAYS ASSURE THAT YOUR FIREARM IS COMPLETELY UNLOADED BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR LOCKING DEVICE. REMEMBER THAT EVERY LOCK CAN BE DEFEATED. ALWAYS TREAT YOUR FIREARM AS IF IT WERE LOADED. ALWAYS STORE YOUR FIREARM IN A SAFE LOCATION, SEPARATE FROM THE AMMUNITION, AND SEPARATE FROM THE KEYS TO THE LOCKING DEVICE.

PHOTO 1

ArmaLite® supplies a locking device with each new pistol. Use only the locking device that is supplied with your ArmaLite® pistol. ArmaLite® cannot be responsible for the adequacy of any other locking device. If you lose your locking device, or if you purchase a used ArmaLite® pistol without its associated locking device, contact ArmaLite® to purchase another locking device.

To install your ArmaLite® locking device:

1.Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction and your finger out of the trigger guard.

2.Be sure the pistol is completely unloaded. Remove the magazine, retract the slide and lock it back with the slide stop. Visually assure that the chamber is empty (See Photo 10).

3.Install the locking device by threading it down through the ejection port and the magazine well. Lock the cable into the lock. Pull on the lock to assure that the cable is securely locked into it.

4.Store the keys for the locking device in a secure location separately from the locked pistol. Store the ammunition separately from the pistol.

If you do not have a locking device, store the pistol in a secure location or remove the slide and barrel from the pistol and store them separately in a secure location separate from the ammunition.

WARNING: IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE SIMILAR FIREARM, MAKE SURE THAT YOU SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY THE REMOVED BARREL AND SLIDE WITH ITS ORIGINAL FIREARM BECAUSE THE PARTS MAY NOT BE INTERCHANGEABLE.

5. GENERAL INFORMATION

Congratulations on your purchase of the ArmaLite® AR-24™ pistol. This pistol is designed to serve you as a reliable protection device, focusing upon solid, traditional construction as well as dependability.

The AR-24™ is a dramatic departure from ArmaLite®’s tradition of new product development. Unlike ArmaLite®’s usual emphasis on the latest materials and processes, the AR-24™ emphasizes the finest ordnance materials and the construction standards of an earlier era when only the highest quality and technical excellence was trusted to protect life and property.

In so doing, ArmaLite® diverged from the industry trend to inexpensive materials and construction techniques. The frame, slide, and barrel, for instance, are all expensively machined from ordnance alloy steel forgings in one of the most modern firearm factories in the world. Machined surfaces are flat and straight, showing a finish devoid of machine marks that would please the most finicky gunsmith. The rifling is finely cut, rather than button rifled, to provide the ultimate engagement of bullet to bore. The pistol is then finished with military-grade manganese phosphate and heat-cured epoxy for outstanding corrosion resistance.

The AR-24™ is designed not only to be accurate and reliable, but beautiful as well. Great care has been taken to ensure that the fit of the pistol to the shooter’s hand, and the angle of the grip to the sights assure quick, natural aim and accuracy. Fast sighting even under low light conditions is assured by a three-dot sight system. The AR-24™ is a handgun that anybody can be proud to own.

The new ArmaLite®’s lines are reminiscent of a classic line extending from the elegant but expensive French M1935A designed by Charles Petter, and down through subsequent famed pistols to the AR-24™. In terms of form and function it can be thought of as fitting between the SIG P-210(tm) and the CZ-75(tm). Extensive emphasis on design excellence and durability has driven this pistol from the ordinary to the extraordinary, and is reinforced in the artistry of the design.

The AR-24™ is offered in both full-sized 16 round and compact 14 round (including 1 round in the chamber) steel-framed models, and in a special version supplied with finely checkered forestrap and backstrap and adjustable sights. Also, versions are available with 10 round magazines for localities where magazine capacity is restricted.

We believe that you’ll be as proud to own this pistol as we are to bring it to the market.

The AR-24™ is a rugged, reliable, locked breech, high capacity handgun featuring recoil operation and a double action trigger mechanism. It is ideally suited to military, police, and security uses. It offers excellent accuracy, excellent feel and natural pointing, and long life. It features multiple safety devices:

1.Manual safety

2.Automatic firing pin block safety. The pistol cannot fire if the trigger isn’t pulled even if the manual safety is not engaged.

3.Inertial firing pin. Even when the manual safety is off and the hammer down on a loaded chamber, the firing pin cannot contact the primer.

4.Automatic disconnector to prevent firing unless the slide and barrel are locked

together.

5.Half-cock notch on hammer to help prevent firing if the hammer slips from your grasp as you are cocking it or if pistol is dropped.

WARNING: REMEMBER THAT ALL SAFETIES ARE SIMPLY MECHANICAL DEVICES, AND AS SUCH, COULD POSSIBLY FAIL. NEVER DEPEND ON ANY SAFETY TO JUSTIFY UNSAFE GUN HANDLING. ALWAYS KEEP THE CHAMBER EMPTY AND THE FIREARM POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION EVEN WHEN THE MANUAL SAFETY IS ON.

WARNING: THE HALF COCK NOTCH SHOULD NOT BE USED IN LIEU OF THE MANUAL SAFETY.

THEORY OF OPERATION. When fired, propellant gasses force the bullet out of the bore. An equal rearward thrust forces the locked slide and the barrel to the rear. As they travel rearward, a camming slot through the bottom of the moving barrel contacts the fixed shaft of the slide stop and the interaction forces the rear of the barrel downward to unlock the barrel from the slide. The barrel is halted by contact with the receiver; but the slide continues to the rear under its momentum, extracts the cartridge from the chamber, and pushes the hammer to the rear so that it may be caught by the sear. Rearward movement of the slide allows the next cartridge in the magazine to rise to the magazine feed lips and into the path of the slide’s breech face. The cartridge case moving rearward with the slide strikes a fixed ejector, and then pivots about the extractor and out of the ejection port. Rearward movement of the slide is halted by the receiver, and the recoil SPR®ing (s), which was compressed during rearward movement of the slide, expands and forces the slide forward. The breech face of the forward-moving slide strikes the rear of the top cartridge, forcing it forward, up the feed ramp and into the chamber until the extractor snaps over the rim of the cartridge case. The slide strikes the barrel to carry it forward. As the cam slot of the barrel passes around the shaft of the slide stop an angled surface strikes the shaft and the barrel is forced upward. This allows the locking lugs of the barrel to engage matching locking slots in the slide.

7

The AR-24™ is a high quality pistol produced with advanced manufacturing techniques and of the highest quality materials. The pistol’s construction features extensive use of forgings, and extensively machined parts. In a day when low cost manufacturing techniques are emphasized almost everywhere, ArmaLite®’s pistols hearken back to a day when no cost was spared to build tough, beautiful firearms that would serve well for generations.

WARNING: YOUR ARMALITE® FIREARM WAS DESIGNED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY WITH ITS ORIGINAL COMPONENTS. ALTERATIONS TO ITS ORIGINAL COMPONENTS OR REPLACEMENT OF THEM WITH AFTERMARKET (NON-ARMALITE®) COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE MALFUNCTIONS OR EVEN MAKE THE FIREARM UNSAFE. DO NOT ALTER ANY PART OR ADD / SUBSTITUTE PARTS NOT PROVIDED BY ARMALITE® INC.

7. AMMUNITION

Nomenclature of cartridges can be confusing. It is vital that you understand cartridge nomenclature and only fire cartridges for which this firearm was designed. To assist you, the name of the appropriate cartridge will be etched on the receiver and/or barrel of each ArmaLite. (More information regarding cartridge nomenclature can be found in the Tech Notes on our website.)

WARNING: USE OF INCORRECT AMMUNITION CAN CAUSE FIREARM DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH. MAKE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE USING CARTRIDGES DESIGNED FOR YOUR FIREARM. DO NOT FIRE OLD, CORRODED, DEFORMED, OR HANDLOADED AMMUNITION. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, CONTACT ARMALITE® BEFORE FIRING.

ArmaLite® AR-24™ Series Pistols are chambered for the 9mm x19 Parabellum cartridge (also known as the 9mm Luger). Do not attempt to fire any other cartridges in this firearm.

Start with high quality ammunition loaded to SAAMI (Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturer’s Institute) or CIP (International Proof Commission for Firearms) standards. Avoid corrosively primed surplus ammunition.

Use only factory ammunition of high quality in your AR-24™. Some ammunition, especially foreign or surplus ammunition, can be old or weakly loaded or defective. (There’s a reason surplus ammunition is surplus.) The pistol is finely fit, and may seem a bit sluggish until broken in (about 200 rounds).

Only good quality factory-loaded copper or gilding metal clad ammunition should be used in this pistol. 124 grain bullets are best suited to this pistol. Use of +P or +P+ high pressure ammunition will shorten the life expectancy of all handguns, including the AR-24™, and should be limited to duty carry.

ArmaLite® disclaims any and all responsibility for any damage or injury whatsoever occurring in connection with or as a result of the use of faulty, hand loaded, remanufactured, or other cartridges for which this firearm was not designed.

NOTE: Some types/brands of ammunition have unique characteristics (e.g. extremely light or heavy projectiles, particularly soft cartridge cases, propellant that burns unusually slowly or rapidly) that reduce its reliability in any semiautomatic firearm. ArmaLite recommends that you purchase and test a small quantity of any type of ammo in your firearm before you buy large quantities.
