Overview

The Apple MessagePad 2000 and the Apple MessagePad 2100 are hand-held computers with built-in communications and expansion options. They are the first modular hand-held computers designed specifically for mobile communications to access the Internet, Intranet, and World Wide Web.
The Apple MessagePads are repaired through whole­unit exchange.

Features of the Apple MessagePad 2000 include the following:
• 162 MHz StrongARM SA-110 RISC processor
• 3 MB Read/Write memory space (1 MB DRAM; 2 MB FEPROM) expandable to 8 MB (4 MB DRAM; 4 MB FEPROM)
• 480x320 transreflective DFSTN LCD display with 0.26 mm dot pitch
• 16 levels gray scale
• Two Type II PCMCIA slots; 3.3 V and 5 V operation
• Backlight
• Universal AC/DC power adapter
• Rechargeable NiMH battery pack or four AA alkaline batteries
• 24 hours continuous operation with NiMH pack; 100 hours operation in Idle mode (display on, backlight off)

The Apple MessagePad 2100 shares the same features as the Apple MessagePad 2000 except it offers improved performance with 8 MB RAM (4 MB DRAM; 4 MB Flash RAM).

Because cures are listed on the charts in the order of most likely solution, try the first cure first. Verify whether or not the product continues to exhibit the symptom. Resetting the Operating System

Erratic operation On back of MessagePad 2000 or 2100, use a pen (not the stylus)
to press the Reset button for two seconds. If MessagePad is on, it restarts. If MessagePad is off, it turns on.
Important:

Screen

Screen is too light or too dark
1 Adjust contrast. 2 Adjust viewing angle. 3 Adjust surrounding lighting:
• If surrounding lighting too dark, turn on backlight
• If surrounding lighting too light, turn off backlight
4 Check that surrounding temperature is within operating
range. (Refer to Specifications chapter.)
5 Contact Apple Technical Support.

“Out of Memory” message appears
MessagePad will not turn on
1 Tap the display’s Restart button. 2 Contact Apple Technical Support.

Power and Batteries

1 If batteries have just been replaced, verify that + and -
terminals are positioned properly.
2 If connected to power adapter, check that power outlet is
working. 3 Adjust screen contrast. 4 Press Reset button on back of MessagePad (see the symptom
“Resetting the Operating System”).
5 Contact Apple Technical Support.
