• Connect the power plug into the wall outlet securel
• Verify the power button on the player is engaged.
Press STOP button then press I/P button on the remote control repeatedly.
• Connect the video cable into the jacks securel owners manual.
• Verify the connection from the DVD video output to the TV video input. Then switch TV to appropriate mode (Video 1, Video 2, etc.).
• Connect the audio cables into the jacks securely. Verify the connection from the DVD audio output to the TV or receiver
audio input. Refer to your audio amplifier owners manual for specific instructions.
Press STOP button then press the I/P button on your remote control repeatedly.
• Incorrect connection of component video cables

• Picture distortion may appear because of a poor quality video/sound transfer.
Wipe with a soft clean cloth top remove fingerprints or other residue.

Connect the DVD player directly through the TV and not through any other
source like a VCR. What you’re viewing is the effect of the copy protection circuitry

The player has built in copyright protection technology that prevents copying from a DVD disc to any media.
If a video recorder is connected to the player, the video output image will be distorted during recording.

Things You Should Know Insert (1)
A video disc contains high density compressed data that requires proper Handling.
Hold the disc's outer edge and/or the center spindle hole. Do not touch the disc surface if at all possible.
Do not bend or press on the disc. Do NOT expose the disc to direct sunlight or heating sources.
Store discs in a cabinet vertically, in a dry location. Prevent exposure to:
- Direct sunlight
- Heat or exhaust from a heating device.
- Extreme humidity. Clean the disc surface with a soft, dry cleaning cloth.
Wipe the disc surface gently, from center toward the outer edge.
Do not apply thinner, alcohol chemical solvent, or sprays when cleaning. Such cleaning fluids will permanently damage the disc surface.
Do not attach paper or tape to the disc. A video disc contains high density compressed data that requires proper Handling.
Remove the battery compartment cover. Load two fresh AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure that the batteries have been inserted

Getting Started
Thank you for purchasing your new Apex Digital AD 1118 DVD Player. It is designed for you to enjoy most forms of disc media and “at-the­movies” picture quality with cinema quality sound.
Your new player also supports CD and MP3. It has several enhanced features including S-Video output, Parental Control, and Kodak Picture CD to view your digital photo files in a slide show presentation. The Progressive Scan feature will provide a “film-like” video quality when connected to newer EDTV and HDTV sets that incorporate Progressive Scan technology with component video inputs.
-Unpack the unit and save the box and packing for the duration of the warranty period in the event you may need to ship the unit to us for repair.
-Read through this owner’s manual, EZ Guide, and “Things You Should Know” insert before installation and use.
-Load batteries into the remote control unit and verify batteries are installed correctly.
-Connect the player to your TV, make sure the connections are secured.
-Connect the power plug to the AC power outlet.
NOTE:
Certain features contained in this DVD player are related to the DVD disc’s software.
Check the features printed on the disc’s packaging or follow the instructions of the disc’s on-screen menu.
The remote control transmits a directional infrared beam. Be sure to aim the remote control directly at the infrared sensor of the unit during operation.
If the sensor has been covered or there is an obstruction, the remote may not respond.
The sensor may not be able to receive the remote signal when it is exposed to direct sunlight or a strong artificial light (flourescent or strobe light). In this case, change the direction of the light or reposition the unit to avoid direct lighting.

Check the feature content printed on the disc's packaging.
**NOTE:
The remote control transmits a directional infrared beam. Be sure to aim the remote control directly at the infrared sensor during operation. When the sensor is covered or there is a large object between the remote control and the sensor will not receive a signal. The sensor may not be able to receive signals properly when it is exposed to direct sunlight or strong artificial light (such as a fluorescent or strobe light). In this case, change the direction of the light or reposition the unit to avoid direct lighting.

Connect the supplied video (yellow) and audio (red & white) cables as shown. To view, cycle through your TV input sources from your TV remote (Video 1, 2, etc.) to select the source that your DVD player is connected to.

For better quality, connect the DVD video player with an optional S-Video cable if the TV has an S-Video input. Do not connect the yellow video cable if using an S-Video cable. Connect the supplied audio (red & white) cables as shown. To view, cycle through your TV input sources from your TV remote (Video 1, 2, etc.) to select the source that your DVD player is connected to. If there is no picture present, remove any disc from the player. Press the I/P button on your DVD player’s remote control repeatedly to access the S-Video Mode.

Connect the optional Component (Y, Pb, Pr) video cables and audio (red & white) cables to your HDTV/EDTV set as shown. To view, cycle through your TV input sources from your TV remote (Video 1,2, etc.) to select the source that your DVD player is connected to. Press STOP button then press I/P button repeatedly.

Do not connect the Component (Y, Pb, Pr and S-Video connectors simultaneously.
Note: Use the interlaced setting when using a standard TV. If you view a black and white distorted picture on your TV, press I/P (your installation may be interlaced and it may have been put into Progressive Scan Mode by mistake).
Note: Your Apex DVD Player is equipped with Progressive Scan Output (Y, Pb, Pr / Component Video Outputs) otherwise known as 480P (P=Progressive). The 480P image offers the best quality picture and eliminates virtually all motion artifacts. This feature is designed for newer EDTV or HDTV sets only.
Note: To switch back and forth between Interlace and Progressive Video Mode, press I/P on your remote control to cycle between the three modes. Please refer to page 18 in this manual to learn more about this function.

To open and close the disc tray:
Press OPEN/CLOSE button on the remote or OPEN/CLOSE button on the front panel.
To Play: Press ENTER/ button to play the disc.
To Pause: When DVD is playing, press PAUSE/STEP button to pause. Note that the picture is now in a still-frame mode.
Step (frame by frame): While DVD is in pause mode, press PAUSE/STEP button to step forward frame by frame. Press ENTER/ to resume normal playback.
To Stop: Press the STOP button to stop in two modes: a) Press Once: The DVD will stop. Resume where you left off by pressing ENTER/ button. b) Press Twice: The DVD will stop. Once ENTER/ is pressed, the DVD will initiate from its beginning start point.
**NOTE:
STOP button memorizes the last video frame displayed. (To resume, press ENTER/ button).

Only 1 output (S-Video, Interlace component, or Progressive Scan component) may be used at one time. Interlace component and Progressive Scan component use the same video output jacks named Y, Pb, Pr. AFF (Active Full Screen Function)
Zoom
AFF (Active Full Screen Function) allows you to fill
the TV screen viewing area when playing a widescreen formatted DVD on a standard 4:3 television. Depending on the aspect ratio of the DVD presentation, the size of the black bars may vary.
Press AFF button to eliminate or reduce the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

TIPS FOR MAKING A GOOD MP3 CD ON YOUR COMPUTER:
- Using a good quality CD-RW/CD-R disc is recommended. Up to 650 MB (74-minute CD) or 700 MB (80-minute CD) of MP3 files can be recorded.
- Select a high quality and stable CD

- Select an advanced CD burning software.
- MP3 is data and not WAV information, therefore Mode 1 must be selected when compiling and burning your discs.
- Drag and drop must not be used to compile the disc. The player will not recognize this format.
- Select Data CD Project in your software user interface, the file system should comply with the standard ISO 9660 or Joliet. Or, select MP3 CD Project for more convenient operation.
- Finalize the CD after it is burned.
Program to play a DVD, CD and MP3 disc in a desired sequence automatically.

Load a DVD disc.
1) Press the STOP button and then PROGRAM button. The DVD program menu will appear.
2) Use the numeric keys to input the title number followed by the chapter numbers desired.
3) Use the DIRECTION KEYS to select the next program input. Repeat step 2) until programming is completed. To clear the last input, press CLEAR button. To clear all the inputs, highlight the “Clear All” icon, press ENTER/ button to confirm. To quit the Program Menu, press button.
4) Highlight the “Play Program” icon, then press ENTER/ button to start program playback.
5) Press programming.

Enter this menu to setup another language in the OSD display, DVD disc subtitle, DVD disc audio and DVD disc Start Menu. Press STOP, then press the SETUP button. Highlight "Language." Press the ENTER/ button again, language sub menu appears.

4:3 Letter Box
Allows you to view movies in their original aspect ratio. The entire frame of the movie will be displayed on screen but will occupy a smaller portion of the screen.
4:3 Pan Scan
The image will fit the screen. The left and right edges of the image may be cut off from the screen.
16:9 Widescreen
When you connect to a widescreen TV (16:9), this setting will allow the original aspect ratio to be displayed.
