• Inspect test probes, connectors, and probes
for damaged insulation or exposed metal before using the tester. If any defects are found, replace them immediately.
• The voltages marked on the tester are
nominal voltages or nominal voltage ranges. The tester shall only be used on installations with the specified nominal voltages or nominal voltage ranges.
• Disconnect the live test lead before
disconnecting the common test lead.
• Before each use, verify the tester’s
operation by measuring a known voltage.
UNPACKING AND INSPECTION
Your shipping carton should include:
1 PY-11 Continuity Tester
1 Users Manual

If any of the items are damaged or missing, return the complete package to the place of purchase
for an exchange.
INTRODUCTION
The PY-11 continuity tester is designed to be rugged and easy to use for the testing of continuity in electrical circuit, fuses, sockets, door bells, motors, switches, and other high wattage appliances. It comes with a bulb light that provides indication of continuity.
• Automatically turns ON and OFF for easy
and quick measurements
• Visual continuity indication (Light bulb)
OPERATION
Note: All function operations described hereafter
are via the stationary tip probe for positive (+) polarity and the attached alligator clip probe for Ground reference (-), or otherwise specified.
Automatic Operation
The tester automatically turns on when you place the probes across a complete circuit. The tester tests for continuity and the Light bulb turns ON if there is a complete circuit. The tester automatically turns off when you remove the probes from the complete circuit.
Fuse Test (Refer to Fig.1)
Remove fuse from circuit, touch clip to one end of fuse and probe to the other fuse end. Tester will light if fuse is good. Do not use on fuses rated 300 mA or lower.
Continuity Testing Light will glow whenever continuous circuit exists.
4
Wire Short Test For Appliances
Attach clip to metal case of equipment, touch probe to suspected wiring. If light glows, wire is grounded and should be repaired.
Alternator Test
Check for open windings (no light glow) and grounded coils (light glows when attached from case coil).
Diode Test
Diode should pass current in only one direction. Check by first using clip on case and probe at diode end, and then reverse clip and probe. Light should glow only in one direction.
Socket Test (Refer to Fig.2)
Make sure there is no power on the adapter. Connect the probe tip to the adapter prong and the alligator clip to the socket prong. The light will turn on if there is continuity.
