2.FMANTENNATERMINAL
Anantennamustbeconnectedtothetuner foreffectivereceiptofstereoFM broadcasts.Aribbon-wire"foldeddipole" antennaisincludedtogetyoustarted. Whenyoustretchouttheribbon-wire antennayouwillnotethatitistheformofa T.The"crossbar"portionoftheTshould bestretchedouthorizontallyandtackedin placeonawall,onthebackofacabinet,or onthefloor.The"vertical"sectionoftheT goestothe75ohmFMantennaterminal through300ohmto75ohmmatching transformerincludedinaccessory package. Inviewoftheexceptionalsensitivityof AMCtunercircuits,youmayfindthe ribbon-wiredipoleantennaisallyouneed forreceiptofstronglocalstations.Butitis notveryefficientatrejecting"multipath" andotherformsofFMinterference,andit cannotbeeasilyrotatedtooptimizeits pickuppatternforbestreceptionofstations indifferentdirections.Therecommended options,inorderofincreasingcost,areas follows: (1)Abasic"rabbit-ears"indoorTVantenna withoutauxiliarycoilsortuningswitches. Electrically,suchanantennaisjustanother dipole(similartotheribbon-wireantenna) withitstunedelementsmadeofsolid metal,butwiththeadvantageofbeingable toberotated.Stretchouteachofitstwo armstoalengthof30inches(75cm),and orientthemhorizontallyoratashallow anglelessthan45degreesupward.The ribbonwireemergingfromtheantenna's baseshouldbeconnectedtothetuner's75 ohmFMantennaterminalthrough300ohm 75ohmmatchingtransformerinplaceof thesuppliedribbon-wireantenna.Now,for eachstationintune,afteryoutunethe
stationyoucanrotatetheantennaforbest reception. (2)Amoreelaboraterabbit-earsindoorTV antennawithatuningswitch.Thistypeof antennadoesNOThavegreatersensitivity thanthesimplerrabbit-earsunit,soifyour problemisthatthesignalsyouwantto receiveareweak,thenanoutdoorantenna istheonlyeffectivesolution.Butincities andinlargebuildingswheresignalsare strongbutarecontaminatedbyreflected "multipath"signalsthatinterferewithgood reception,thetuningswitchonan elaborateindoorantennamayimprove receptionbyreducingtheinterference. (3)Anelectricallytunedindoorantenna. Again,suchantennasusuallydonot provideanyadvantageoverthesimplest typeof"rabbit-ears"unitforreceivingweak signals.Butwherestrongsignalsare contaminatedwithinterference,the antenna'saimingandtuningcontrolscan rejecttheinterferenceandyieldcleaner reception. (4)Anoutdoorantenna.Eventhefinest indoorantenna,nomatterhowelaborate, cannotfullyexploitthecapabilitiesofa goodFMtuner.Forthelowestnoise, minimumdistortion,andlargestchoiceof wellreceivedbroadcasts,anoutdoor antennaisthebestcomplementtoafine tuner.Aroofmountedantennahasthree fundamentaladvantages.First,itslarge sizeyieldsbettersensitivity(pullingina strongersignalformthedesiredstation) andanarrowerdirectionalpatternformore effectiverejectionofmultipathreflections arrivingformotherdirections.Second,its locationonaroofortallmastplacesit abovemanysourcesofinterferencesuch aspassingcarsandbuses,otherbuildings, etc.Third,thestrengthofreceivedFM signalsisdirectlyproportionaltotheheight ofanyantennaabovetheground.Ifyou alreadyhaveanoutdoor television antenna,usingasplittertoextractFM signalsfromitmayproduceexcellent results.However,manyTVantennasare

potentialinterferencewithTVsignalsat nearbyfrequencies(channel6intheU.S.). Youmaybeabletouseasplittertoextract FMsignalsfromanapartmentbuilding's masterTVantennasystem,butusuallythis yieldspoorresultsbecausemanymaster antennasystemshave"traps"tostopFM signals.Thebestchoiceisadirectional FM-onlyantenna,mountedashighabove groundasispracticalandseparatedbyat leasttwometers(7feet)fromother antennas,verticallyandhorizontally.If desiredstationsarelocatedindifferent directions(morethan90degreesapart), theantennashouldbemountedonarotor foraiming.Useshieldedleadingcable ratherthanplain"twinlead"wire,bothto minimizeinterferenceandtopreserve strongsignalsduringyearsofweathering. Thecablemaybeeither75ohmcoaxialor shielded300ohmtype.Disconnectany indoorantennabeforeconnectingthe cableformtheoutdoorantenna.Ifyou installanoutdoorantennayourself, observetheseimportantCAUTIONS: a.Donotmounttheantennacloseto electricpowerlines.Plantheinstallation sothattheantennamastcannot accidentallytouchpowerlines,eitherwhile youareinstallingitorlater. b.Includealightningarresterinthe installation,toprotectbothyourselfandthe tunercircuitfrompotentialdangerduring electricalstorms.
effectivenessofalongwireantennawillbe improvedbyconnectingasecondwire fromtheGround(G)terminaltoatrue earthground,i.e.acopperplatedroddriven severalfeetintoearth.Asubstitute electricalgroundmayalsoimprove effectiveness:acoldwaterpipe,aseam radiator,orthethirdholeofmodern electricalwallsocket.
4.OUTPUTJACKS
ConnectastereopatchcordfromtheLeft andRightoutputjackstothe correspondingTunerinputjacksonyour amplifier.
5.DIGITALOUTPUTS(OPTION) ThisisanoptionmodelforT7a
.Ifyour AMCT7ahasincorporatedwithDigital OutputModuletheunitwillbeavailable withdigitaloutputintwotypesofjacks (RCAJackandToslinkJack).Fordetails pleasecheckwithAMCdealer/distributor inyourcountry.
3.AMANTENNATERMINALS
Sincethetunerisequippedwithloop antenna,noexternalantennawillbe neededforsatisfactoryreceptionofmost localbroadcastingstations.Butifyouwish toimprovereceptionofdistantAMstations, attachalongwireoutdoorantennatothe AMterminal.Asitsnameimplies,a "longwire"antennaisasimple,straight wirewhoselengthmaybeanythingfroma fewfeetuptoabout100feet(30meters), mountedparalleltotheearthand ashigh asconvenient.Insomecasesthe

FRONTPANELCONTROLS
1.POWERSWITCH
TheAMCT7aisturnedonbypressingthe powerswitch.Thesmallindicatorabovethe switchwillglowgreen.
2.STATIONPRESETS
Youcanstorethefrequenciesofthirtyfavorite stations(FMandAM),inthesepresets,using theMEMORYbutton.Then,totunethose stationsfromdaytoday,justpressthe appropriatepresetsbuttons.Thepresets preservetheirfrequencyassignmentswhen thepowerisswitchedoff,orwhentheACline cordisunplugged,foraperiodofatleasttwo weeks.Thusyoucanrearrangeyourstereo system,ormovetheequipmentfromroomto room,withoutlosingthepresetfrequencies. Butifyouleavethepoweroffforamonthor more,youmayhavetoreprogramthetuning presets.
3.MEMORY
ThisbuttonengagestheMemoryentermode. Usethismodetoenterthefrequenciesofyour favoritestationsinthethirtypresets(FMand AM).Theprocedureisasfollows. (1)Decidewhichstationyouwanttoassignto eachpreset. (2)SelecttheFMorAMband,asappropriate. UsingtheTuningcontrol,manuallytunetothe firststationonyourlist.Checkthecenter­tuneindicatortobesurethatyouhavetuned preciselytothecenterofthestation's broadcastchannel.PresstheMEMORY button,thenpressPreset#01tostorethefirst stationinthetuner'smemory.(NOTE:After youpressMEMORY,youwillhave approximatelyfivesecondstostoreastation inoneofthepresets.Afterthatinterval,the MEMORYmodewillautomatically deactivate). (3)Tunetothesecondstationonyourlist. PresstheMEMORYbuttonand,withinten seconds,pressPreset#02tostorethe secondstation. (4)Tunetothethirdstationonyourlist,press MEMORYandpressPreset#03tostorethe station.Continueinthismannerwithany
otherstationsthatyouwanttostoreinthe remainingpresets.Incidentally,ifyoumakea mistakeorchangeyourmind,itisnot necessarytoreprogramallpresetsin sequence.Youcanreprogramanypreset simplybytuningtothedesiredfrequency, pressMEMORY,andpressingthepreset# thatyouwanttoreprogram.Afteryoufinish programmingthepresets,youmaywishto postyourlistofstationsandassociatedpreset numbersnearbyforreference.CAUTION:in day-to-dayoperationbecarefulnottopress theMEMORYbuttonbyaccident.Doingso willactivatetheMEMORYmode,andifyou thenpressanyofthepresetbuttonsyouwill unintentionallyreprogramthatpreset.You wouldthenhave tomanuallyretunetothe stationyouwanted,andreprogramitintothe preset.IfyoupressMEMORYaccidentally, youmaywaittensecondsfortheMEMORY modetodisengage.Oryoucanimmediately forcethetuneroutoftheMEMORYmode,in eitheroftwoways:switchtotheothertuning band(e.g.fromFMtoAMandback),ortap tuningbuttonstochangethetunedfrequency.
4.AM/FM
Thisbuttonswitchesbetweenthetwotuning bands:FMorAM.Thedigitaltuningdisplay showsthetunedfrequencyinMHz(forFM)or KHz(forAM).Thetuningcircuithasa"last stationselected"memory.Whenyouswitch betweentuning tobands,thecircuit automaticallyretunestothelaststationthat youtunedtowhenyoupreviouslyusedthat band.
5.MONO
TheMONObuttondisablesthestereoFM circuitsinthetuner.Normallythetuner receivesmonophonicFMtransmissionsin monoandautomaticallyswitchesonits multiplexdecodingcircuitswhenastereoFM broadcastisreceived(asshownbythe STEREOindicator).Butwhenaveryweak FMstationsignalisreceived,itmaybe excessivelynoisybecauseofthemultiplex encodingtechniqueusedforstereo

ordertoobtainconsistentlyquieterand cleanersound.Remembertodisengagethe MONObuttonwhenyouretunetoastronger signal.AslongastheMONObuttonis engaged,nobroadcastscanbereceivedin stereo.
6.AUTO
WhentheAUTObuttonisengaged,aredLED onthedisplaywillbelit,otherwisetheunitisin MANUALmode.InAUTOmode,thetuner scansisinastation-by-stationmoderather thaninsmallfrequencyincrements.When theTuningbuttonsistapped,thetunerscans rapidlyupordowninfrequencyand automaticallystopsatthenextstationwhose signalisstrongenoughforgoodreception.A mutingcircuitautomaticallysilencesthe outputduringthescan,tillthetuningcircuits lockontoastation.TheMANUALtuning modepartiallyoverridesthescanmuting.In thismodeallstations(andtheinterstation noise)remainaudibleatareducedvolume levelwhilethetuningisbeingscannedupor downinfrequency.Ifyouwanttosearchfor veryweaksignals,orifyouneedtofinetune awayfromthecenterofastation's broadcastchannelinordertocurean interferenceproblem,usethemanualtuning mode.
7.TUNING
TheTUNINGcontrolsaretwobuttonsthat allowyoutotuneupanddowntheAMofFM radiospectrum.Presstheright-handbutton totunetowardhigherfrequenciesorthe lefthandbuttontotunetowardlower frequencies.WhentheTUNINGbuttonsare pressedmomentarily,thetunedfrequency shiftsupordownbyonestep,unlessthe AUTOmodehasbeenengaged.(IfAUTOis engagedthetunerwillscaninastation-by­stationmoderatherthaninsmalltuning steps.)InNorthAmericathesizeofthe minimumtuningstepis10KHzontheAM bandand200KHzontheFMband.InEurope andelsewherethetuningstepis9KHzonAM and50KHzonFM.EachtimetheTUNING buttonsaretapped,thetunedfrequencywill
shiftupordownbythisincrement,asshown onthedigitalfrequencydisplay.Totunea broadcastsignal,presscontinuouslyoneither TUNINGbuttontillthetunedfrequencyis closetothedesiredbroadcastfrequency. Thenfinetuneinsmallincrementsbytapping theTuningbuttons.Ifyouknowtheexact frequencyofthebroadcaststation,simply tunetothatfrequency.Ifyoudon'tknowthe exactfrequency,tunetothevicinityofthe correctfrequencyandthenobservethe Tuningindicatorswhilefinetuningtoobtain maximumsignalstrength.OnFM,finetunetill thecentertuneindicatorisilluminated.
8.TEXT
WhentheTEXTbuttonispressed,arepeated textualmessagewillbescrolledthroughthe display.Iftheselectedstationisnot transmittingaTEXTmessage,"NOTEXT" willappearonthedisplay.
9.TIME
WhentheTIMEbuttonispressed,thetimeis displayed.Thefirsttwocharactersontheleft handsideofthedisplaywillindicateeitherAM orPM,followedbythetime.Iftheselected stationisnottransmittingatimesignal,"NO CLOCK"willappearonthedisplay.
10.PROGRAM
WhenthePROGRAMbuttonispressed,the selectedstationnamewillappearonthe display.Iftheselectedstationisnot transmittingthestationname,"NONAME" willappearonthedisplay.
11.TYPE
WhentheTYPEbuttoninpressed,thetypeof programmaterialtransmittedbytheselected stationwillbedisplayed,e.g.News,Classic, Pop,Sportetc.Iftheselectedstationisnot transmittingTYPEinformation,"NONE"will appearonthedisplay.

AwirelessremotecontrolisprovidedwithyourT7aenablingyoutooperatefromthecomfort ofyourchair.Forreliableoperationthereshouldbeaclearline-of-sightpathfromtheremote controltothefrontofthetuner.
Mostbuttonsontheremotecontrolproducethesameeffectasthecorresponding buttononthefrontpanelofthetuner.
Tounderstandthesefunctionspleasereferto relevantsections.However,thehandsetisalsoequippedwithtwofunctions(SCANand PRESET)thatarenotfoundonfrontpanel.Theoperationsofthesefunctionsaredescribed asfollows:
SCAN
TheSCANhastwobuttonsthatallowyoutotuneupanddowntheAMofFMradiospectrum. Pressthe''buttontotunetowardhigherfrequenciesor''buttontotunetowardlower frequencies.WhentheSCANbuttonsarepressedmomentarily(<0.5second),thetuned frequencyshiftsupordownbyonestep.WhentheSCANbuttonsarepressedandheld morethan0.5second,thetunerwillscaninastation-by-stationmoderatherthaninsmall tuningsteps.
PRESET
Oncethefrequenciesoffavoritestations(upto30ineitherFMorAM)havebeenstoredin thisunit.ToseehowtosetupmemorystationspleaserefertoMEMORYdescription. Then,justpressthePRESETbuttonsandthestationsinthememoryoftheunitcanbeeasily
