LP Gas Conversion

IMPORTANT: This cooktop is factory set for use with Natural gas. If you wish to use Liquid Propane (LP), call a licensed professional to install the LP gas conversion kit (included).

Placement of Burner Heads and Caps

All burner caps and burner bases should be properly installed BEFORE operating the cooktop. Check that each burner has the right size head and cap.
Refer to the “Sealed Surface Burners” section for proper burner head placement details.

Lighting the Burners

IMPORTANT: All burners will click/spark when a knob is pushed in. A burner will light only if the knob is pushed in and then turned counterclockwise to IGNITE.
To light the burners:
1. Push in the knob.
2. Turn the knob counterclockwise to IGNITE. Wait until you
see a flame.
3. Turn the knob to anywhere between H and L to the
desired setting.
Power failure
In case of a power failure, burners can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near the burner and turn the knob counterclockwise to IGNITE.

Cleaning the Burner: Tips

The burners should be kept clean. Spillovers should be cleaned immediately since they can clog the openings in the burners.
IMPORTANT: Before cleaning, make sure all controls are OFF and the cooktop is cool. For more information, see the “General Cleaning” section.
■ Remove the burner cap from the base. Clean the burner cap
with hot soapy water, and then rinse it.
■ Remove the burner base and clean the gas tube opening
under the base.
■ Clean clogged burner ports with a straight pin, needle, or
small-gauge wire as shown. Do not use a wooden toothpick or clean in the dishwasher.
■ Gently clean the igniter with a damp cloth.

COOKTOP USE

Cooktop Controls

WARNING
Fire Hazard
Do not let the burner flame extend beyond the edge of the pan.
Turn off all controls when not cooking. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death
or fire.
IMPORTANT: Your cooktop is factory set for use with Natural gas. If you wish to use LP gas, an LP Gas Conversion Kit is included with your new cooktop. See the instructions included with the LP Gas Conversion Kit for details on making this conversion.
Electric igniters automatically light the surface burners when control knobs are turned to IGNITE.
The large burners provide the highest heat setting and are ideal for cooking large quantities of food or liquid and using large pots and pans. The small burners allow more accurate simmer control at the lowest setting and are ideal for cooking smaller quantities of food and using smaller pots and pans.
Before setting a control knob, place filled cookware on the grate. Do not operate a burner while using empty cookware or without any cookware on the grate.
NOTE: Visually check that the burner has lit. If the burner does not ignite, listen for a clicking sound. If you do not hear the igniter click, turn off the burner. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or blown household fuse.
Check that the control knob is pressed completely down on the valve shaft. If the spark igniter still does not operate, call a trained repair specialist.
On units with re-ignition spark modules, proper grounding and polarity are necessary for correct operation of the electric ignition system. If the wall receptacle does not provide correct polarity, the igniter will become grounded and occasionally click, even after the burner has ignited. Contact a trained repair specialist to check the wall receptacle to see whether it is wired with the correct polarity.
To Set:
1. Push in and turn knob counterclockwise to IGNITE.
All surface burners will click. Only the burner with the control knob turned to IGNITE will produce a flame.
2. Turn knob to anywhere between H and L. Use the
following chart as a guide when setting heat levels.
Setting Recommended Use Ignite H (High)
Medium-High (between Med and H)
Med (Medium)
Medium-Low (between Med and L)
L (Low)
REMEMBER: When cooktop is in use, the entire cooktop area may become hot.
■ Light the burner.
■ Start food cooking.
■ Bring liquid to a boil.
■ Hold a rapid boil.
■ Quickly brown or sear food.
■ Fry or sauté foods.
■ Maintain a slow boil.
■ Cook soups, sauces, and gravies.
■ Stew or steam foods.
■ Simmer.
■ Keep food warm.
Power failure
In case of prolonged power failure, the surface burners can be lit manually. Hold a lit match near a burner and turn knob counterclockwise to IGNITE. After burner lights, turn knob to setting. Do not use a grill or griddle accessory during a power failure as the vent fan will not operate.

Grate Placement

To install the grates, align the feet on the center grate with the indents on the cooktop. Then install the 2 outer grates by aligning the tabs on the center grate with the slots in the outer grates. Be sure to line up the slots and tabs for proper grate alignment.
Stainless Steel Finish
The easy-to-clean stainless steel finish helps keep your cooktop looking new and bright. The finish preserves stainless steel by avoiding staining, discoloration and yellowing, while making even baked-on soils easier to clean. Your cooktop finish should be cleaned the same way as traditional stainless steel. A soft cloth or non-scratch sponge and warm soapy water will remove most food soils.

Home Canning

When canning for long periods, alternate the use of surface burners between batches. This allows time for the most-recently used areas to cool.
■ Center the canner on the grate above the burner.
■ Do not place canner on 2 surface burners at the same time.
■ For more information, contact your local agricultural
department. Companies that manufacture home canning products can also offer assistance.

Cookware

IMPORTANT: Do not leave empty cookware on a hot surface cooking area, element, or surface burner.
Ideal cookware should have a flat bottom, straight sides, and a well-fitting lid, and the material should be of mediumto-heavy thickness.
Rough finishes may scratch the cooktop. Aluminum and copper may be used as a core or base in cookware. However, when used as a base, they can leave permanent marks on the cooktop or grates.
Cookware material is a factor in how quickly and evenly heat is transferred which affects cooking results. A nonstick finish has the same characteristics as its base material.
For example, aluminum cookware with a nonstick finish will take on the properties of aluminum.
Use the following chart as a guide for cookware material characteristics.

Soap and Water: Use a nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad and mildly abrasive cleanser, soap, and water. Dishwasher: The grates may be cleaned in the dishwasher. Remove any burnt-on food prior to placing the
grates in the lowest rack in the dishwasher. To avoid chipping, do not bang grates against each other or hard surfaces, such as cast iron cookware.
Although the grates are durable, they will gradually lose their shine due to exposure to high temperatures. Use a nonabrasive plastic scrubbing pad and mildly abrasive cleanser, soap, and water.
Do not place caps in the dishwasher or reassemble caps on burners when wet. The holes in the burner bases must be kept clean for proper ignition and a complete, even flame. Refer to
the “Cleaning the Burner: Tips” section. Use a nonabrasive scrubbing pad and glass cleanser or a mild liquid cleaner, such as affresh® Kitchen and
Appliance Cleaner, Part Number W10355010. For best results, use a soft cloth or non-scratch sponge.
Rub in direction of the grain to avoid damaging the surface. Use liquid detergent or all-purpose cleaner, such as affresh® Kitchen and Appliance Cleaner,
Part Number W10355010. For stainless steel finishes, use affresh® Stainless Steel Cleaner, Part Number W10355016. Do not use scouring pads, abrasive cleaners, cooktop cleaner, steel wool pads, gritty washcloths,
or abrasive paper towels. To order affresh® cleaners, call the Amana Customer eXperience Center at 1-800-442-9991 or visit
