Specifications

The power supply unit(s) shall be Alpha
Communications® / S.T.R.™ model VCU7,
or approved equal. Power supply shall
operate from a 12 to 16VAC (40VA) U.L.
Listed transformer (model T 1640).
All wiring to power supply shall be low­voltage Class II wiring, installed as per all
federal, state, and local elec trical c odes.
Power supply shall surface mount right to
the finished wall and shall be installed in
a suitable environment that is free from
excessive dirt, dust, temperature,
humidity, grease and water. Power supply
shall provide the video monitor power
and control functions, for proper system
operation. For most sec ure installation,
power supply should be installed into a
lockable equipment cabinet/housing.

Power supply unit(s) shall be installed a
safe distance from any source of
elect rical interference.

VCU7 Power Supply

The Alpha Communicat ions® / S.T.R.™ VCU7 power supplies are used with t he S.T.R.™
video-interc om systems, to provide to operate the video monitor units.

The VCU7 units each require a 12 to 16VAC (40VA) low-voltage Class II transformer for
power. Use our model #T1640 (16VAC) plug-in transformer for each VCU7.

These VCU7 power supplies are designed t o easily surfac e mount right onto t he finished wall
by means of the convenient plastic 'Din Rail' bracket supplied with eac h power
supply. Connec tions are positive screw terminal type.

The VCU7 is used for each 30 (or less) video-intercom monitor st ations on a syst em. Each
system also requires the intercom amplifier unit (model NH200A or NH208TVU or equivalent)
for calling, intercom and door release funct ions and signaling.

Wiring Requirements

Basic video-intercom riser wiring shall be 4-c ommon #22AWG, 2- c ommon #18AWG, 1­RG59/U (all copper minimum 95% braid) c oaxial cable c ommon and 1 selective wire #22AWG,
for eac h video monitor st ation c onnect ed t o the riser c able. Add one (or more) additional
common wires if the 'Red Dot' button on the handset will be used (or any additional buttons
such as those on the HT2006 series handset s). See syst em wiring diagram for more
complete wiring information.
