REPLACE THE LEVER RETURN SPRING (PART HW1221). APPLICABLE MODELS: EDTL, ETPDL, DL3500, PDL3500, DL4500, PDL4500

5. In order to remove the Plastic Cover Plate, you must first turn the handle (or insert screwdriver to turn as shown).

9. Replace with new Lever Return Spring in same manner as old spring (legs must be deflected as shown in step 10).

2. Remove the Spindle Bushing Assembly and set aside. Remove Locking Piece (and the small spring attached to it).

6. With the handle turned, lift off the
Plastic Cover Plate and carefully set aside. Note the tamper switch is attached to the Plastic Cover Plate.

10. (a) Place inner leg against left side of tab. (b and c) Deflect outer leg past tab. (d) Outer leg "springs­back" against the tab.
3. Remove Slide Plate. Remove Slide Plate Springs.

7. Remove "C" Retainer Ring from front of lock with special tool.
11. Slide the Spindle Bushing As­sembly back into place. Ensure the spring legs engage with the central boss.

4. Remove the 3 screws that hold down the Plastic Cover Plate.

8. With "C" Retainer Ring removed,
the Spindle Bushing Assembly can slide out. Remove the Lever Return Spring.

12. With the handle turned, carefully replace the Plastic Cover Plate. Ensure tamper switch wires run to the side and are out of the way.

13. Release handle. Insert the 3 screws that hold down the Plastic Cover Plate. Replace Slide Plate Spring. Do not insert second spring.

17. Hold Slide Plate in place. Turn
worm gear until "white gear" centers in the worm gear threads. As the Slide plate moves as the worm gear turns, ensure the two springs are equally com­pressed.

14. Brush all moving parts with grease. Replace Slide Plate.

18. Replace Locking Piece as shown. Insert its small spring first and push down to lock in place. Ensure tamper switch wires do not obstruct reassembly.
15. Insert second Slide Plate Spring into opening of Slide Plate as shown.

19. Replace the Spindle Bushing and reattach the Slide Spacer (black). Ensure the spacer and the Post Bushing are replaced.
16. Use small screwdriver to com­press the spring. Be sure spring is fully inserted into opening.
20. Insert wires through Rear Cover Plate as shown and replace Rear Cover Plate and secure with eight (8) screws.
