UNLEADED SOLDER
Boards requiring use of unleaded solder are printed with the lead­free mark (LF) indicating the solder contains no lead. (Caution: Some printed circuit boards may not come printed with
the lead free mark due to their particular size)
: LEAD FREE MARK
Unleaded solder has the following characteristics.
Unleaded solder melts at a temperature about 40 °C higher than ordinary solder. Ordinary soldering irons can be used but the iron tip has to be applied to the solder joint for a slightly longer time. Soldering irons using a temperature regulator should be set to about 350 °C. Caution: The printed pattern (copper foil) may peel away if
the heated tip is applied for too long, so be careful!
Strong viscosity Unleaded solder is more viscou-s (sticky, less prone to flow) than ordinary solder so use caution not to let solder bridges occur such as on IC pins, etc.
Usable with ordinary solder It is best to use only unleaded solder but unleaded solder may also be added to ordinary solder.
Flexible Circuit Board Repairing
Keep the temperature of the soldering iron around 270 ˚C during repairing.
Do not touch the soldering iron on the same conductor of the circuit board (within 3 times).
Be careful not to apply force on the conductor when soldering or unsoldering.

ISO9660 Format The most common international standard for the logical format of files and folders on a CD- ROM . There are several specification leve ls. In Level 1, file names must be in the 8.3 format (no more than eight characters in the name, no more than three characters in the extension “.MP3”) and in capital letters. Folder names can be no longer than eight characters. There can be no more than eight nested folder levels. Level 2 specifications allow file names and folder names up to 31 characters long. Each folder can have up to 8 trees. For Joliet in the expansion format (file and folder names can have up to 32 characters), make sur e of the contents of the writing software, etc.

Multi Session This is a recording method that e na ble s adding of data using the Track-At-Once method. Conventional CDs begin at a CD control area called the Lead-in and end at an area called Lead-out. A Multi Session CD is a CD having multiple sessions, with each segment from Lead-in to Lead-out regarded as a single session.

Notes on CD-R and CD-RW
•Some CD-Rs or CD-RWs cann ot be played on this system depending upon the record ing quality or physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device. Furthermore, the disc will not play if it has not been correctly finalized. For more information, see the operating inst ructions for the recording device .
•Discs recorded on CD-R/CD-RW drives may not be played back because of scratches, dirt, recording condition or the driver’s characteristics.
•CD-R and CD-RW discs recorded in multi­session that have not ended by “closing the session” are not supp orted.
•The system may be unable to play MP3 format files that do not have the “.MP3” extension.
•Attempting to play non-MP3 format files that have the “. MP3” extension may result in noise or malfunction.
•With formats other than IS O9660 level 1 and 2, folder names or file names may not be displayed correctly.
•The following discs take a longer time to start playback.

Music discs encoded with copyright protection technologies
This product is designed to playback discs t hat conform to the Compact Disc (CD) standard. Recently, various music discs enco ded with copyright protection techno logies are market ed by some record companies. Please be aware that among those discs, there are some that do not conform to the CD standard and may not be playable by this product.
Cautions when playing a disc that is recorded in Multi Session
•If the disc begins with a CD-DA session, it is recognized as a CD-DA (audio) disc, and only the first session will be played back.
•If the disc begins with an MP3 session , it is recognized as an MP3 disc, and playback continues until a CD-DA (audio) session is encountered.
•The playback range of an MP3 disc is determined by the tree structure of files produced by analyzing of the dis c.
•A disc with a mixed CD format will be recognized as a CD-DA (audio) disc.
•Data part of CD-Extras
•Audio part of Mixed CDs

NOTES ON HANDLING THE OPTICAL PICK-UP BLOCK OR BASE UNIT
The laser diode in the optical pick-up block may suffer electrostatic break-down because of the potential difference generated by the charged electrostatic load, etc. on clothing and the human body. During repair, pay attention to electrostatic break-down and also use the procedure in the printed matter which is included in the repair parts. The flexible board is easily damaged and should be handled with care.
NOTES ON LASER DIODE EMISSION CHECK
The laser beam on this model is concentrated so as to be focused on the disc reflective surface by the objective lens in the optical pick­up block. Therefore, when checking the laser diode emission, observe from more than 30 cm away from the objective lens.
LASER DIODE AND FOCUS SEARCH OPERATION CHECK
Carry out the “S curve check” in “CD section adjustment” and check that the S curve waveforms is output three times.

Connect the wire (flat type) (11 core) to the DECK board (CN008) and the MAIN board (CN009).

– CD mechanism deck –
In checking the CD mechanism deck section, prepare three extension jigs (Part No. J-2501-242-A:1.00 mm 11core/ Part No. J-2501-245-A: 1.00 mm 23 core/Part No. J-2501-248-A: 1.00mm 27 core).
Note: The CD mechanism deck of this model is a vertical type and putting it vertically as shown in the figure is the standard position.
When checking signals such as RF waveforms, operate it with the CD mechanism deck in the standard position as shown below.
Connect the extension jig (J-2501-245-A) to the BD board (CN102) and the MAIN board (CN902).
Connect the extension jig (J-2501-248-A) to the REALY board (CN701) and the MAIN board (CN901).
Connect the extension jig (J-2501-242-A) to the BD board (CN104) and the MAIN board (CN507).

TEST MODE

COLD RESET
The cold reset clears all data including preset data stored in the RAM to initial conditions. Execute this mode when returning the set to the customer.
Procedure:
1. While pressing the x , press the [DISC SELECT 1] button and
turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
2. The liquid crystal display becomes blank for a while, and the
set is reset, then becomes demonstration mode.
SHIP MODE
This mode moves the optical pick-up to the position durable to vibration. Use this mode when returning the set to the customer after repair.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to select “CD”.
3. Eject the all disk.
4. While pressing the x , press the [FUNCTION] button and turn
the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
5. The message “MECHA LOCK” is displayed on the liquid
crystal display and the ship mode is set, then becomes power off.
6. After the step 4, pull out the AC cord.
7. Then turn the power on, mecha initialization is performed
again.
COLD RESET AND SHIP MODE
This mode performs “COLD RESET” and “SHIP MODE” at the same time.
Procedure:
1. Eject the all disc.
2. While pressing the

3. The message “MECHA LOCK” is displayed on the liquid
crystal display and the ship mode is set, then becomes power off.

This mode is used to check the function of the amplifier.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. While pressing the x , press the [i-BASS] button and turn the
[VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
3. The message “AMP TEST” is displayed on the liquid crystal
display.
4. When the [VOLUME] knob is turned counter-clockwise, the
message “VOLUME MIN” is displayed on the liquid crystal display. When the [VOLUME] knob is turned clockwise. The message “VOLUME 16” is displayed on the liquid crystal display. When the [VOLUME] knob is turned clockwise again. The message “VOLUME MAX” is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
5. Each time the [TREBLE] knob is turned, the message “TREBLE
MIN”, “TREBLE FLAT” or “TREBLE MAX” is displayed in this order on the liquid crystal display.
6. Each time the [MIDDLE] knob is turned, the message “MIDDLE
MIN”, “MIDDLE FLAT” or “MIDDLE MAX” is displayed in this order on the liquid crystal display.
7. Each time the [BASS] knob is turned, the message “BASS
MIN”, “BASS FLAT” or “BASS MAX” is displayed in this order on the liquid crystal display.
8. Each time the [EQ] knob is pressed, the message “EQ MIN”, “EQ FLAT” or “EQ MAX” is displayed in this order on the liquid crystal display.
9. To release from this mode, press the I/1 button to turn the power off.
TAPE TEST
This mode is used to check the recoding operation.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. While pressing the x , press the [DISC SELECT 2] button and turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
3. The message “TAPE TEST” is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
4. Input audio signal from the MD (AUX) jack (JK602).
5. Press the [REC PAUSE/START] button to start recording.
6. When the x button is pressed during recording, the tape is rewound back to the beginning of recording, then playback starts.
7. To release from this mode, press the I/1 button to turn the power off.
PANEL TEST
This mode is used to check the liquid crystal display, micro computer software version, model destination, panel key and jog dial.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. While pressing the x , press the [DISC SELECT 5] button and turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
3. All segments of liquid crystal display are turned ON.
4. Press two buttons of [ENTER] and [EJECT] simultaneously. The software version of micro computer is displayed. example of display: GO. 1.01A040302 (Case of the software version of micro computer is 1.01)
5. Press two buttons of [ENTER] and [EJECT] simultaneously. The model name and destination is displayed. example of display: BM70 LATIN (Case fo Chilean and Peruvian models)
6. Press two buttons of [ENTER] and [EJECT] simultaneously. The message “KEY 0 0” is displayed on the liquid crystal display. Each time b utton is pressed, the number shown in the following figure is displayed.

REPEAT 5 TIMES LIMIT OFF
The number of repeat for CD playback is 5 times when the repeat mode is “REPEAT”. This mode enables CD to repeat playback for limitless times.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to select “CD”.
3. While pressing the x , press the [EQ] button and turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
4. The “REP” segments blinks on the liquid crystal display and repeat 5 times limit is released.
5. To release from this mode, perform step 4.
ROBBERY PREVENTION LOCK
This mode is used to unable to take sample disc out of set in the shop.
Note: This mode can’t be used when the disc is not inserted.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to select “CD”.
3. Insert the disc.
4. Press two buttons of x and Z simultaneously for five seconds.
5. The message “LOCKED” is displayed on the liquid crystal display and the disc tray is locked. (Even if pressing the Z button, the message “LOCKED” is displayed on the liquid crystal display and the disc tray is locked)
6. To release from this mode, press two buttons of [ENTER] and Z simultaneously for five seconds again.
7. The message “UNLOCKED” is displayed on the liquid crystal display and the disc tray is unlocked.
CD TEST
This mode can run the CD sled motor freely. Use this mode, for instance, when cleaning the optical pick-up.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to select “CD”.
3. While pressing the x , press the [DISC SELECT 4] button and turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise.
4. The message “CD TEST” is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
5. Press the > M button to move the optical pick-up to outside track, or press the . m button to inside track.
MECHA TEST
This mode can perform the CD mecha aging.
Procedure:
1. Press the I/1 button to turn the power on.
2. Press the [FUNCTION] button to select “CD”.
3. While pressing the x , press the [DISC SELECT 4] button and turn the [VOLUME] knob in the clock wise, then press the [PLAY MODE/TUNING MODE] button.
4. The message “MEC TEST” is displayed on the liquid crystal display. Then one of the step 5 to 8can be performed.
5. Press the [REPEAT/FM MODE] button, perform the aging mode (with reading).
6. Press the [i-BASS] button, perform the aging mode (no reading).
7. Press the [DISC SELECT 1] to [DISC SELECT 5] or Z button, perform the mecha manual operation.
8. Press the [DISPLAY] button, error history is displayed on the liquid crystal display.
