Eliminates intermittent sweep generator failures being reported by the TAM AFI routines. Fixes battery problem, error 718, routine. Eliminates tracking generator problems (power level offset at IP and low-noise Frequency Control compatibility) for 8560E Option 002.
Provides additional power and adjacent channel power measurements and allows for amplitude correction to be added to the displayed signal. Also corrected were some firmware errors in remote power bandwidth.
This revision changes gain limits and eliminates unnecessary errors. It is also the latest revision that will function with an 8 MHz processor.

When upgrading to these firmware revisions, some spectrum analyzers require additional hardware changes:
8560E-Series spectrum analyzers have undergone two changes which affect firmware. The first was to change the A2 controller from an 8 MHz processor to a 16 MHz processor. The second was to change the A2U501 EEROM to a larger size to make room for additional flatness correction points.
8 MHz controller to 16 MHz controller (prefix changes from 3305A to 3310A).
A2U501 EEROM to A2U500 EEROM (prefix changes from 3410A to 3416A).
All instruments which contain 940210 or later firmware need only to have the Firmware Upgrade Kit
installed. Do not use the software included in the kit with these instruments.
The 08563-60058 Controller Upgrade Kit must be purchased if the analyzer has an 8 MHz controller. Analyzers which contain firmware revision 920528 have 8 MHz controllers. Some later analyzers may have been changed in the field to 16 MHz processors. To determine whether an analyzer has a 16 MHz controller, press PRESET, SPAN, 1 kHz. If the annotated sweep time is 477 ms, the CPU clock is 16 MHz. If the annotated sweep time is 740 ms, the clock speed is 8 MHz. Do not order the firmware upgrade or the
EEROM upgrade kit if the 08563-60058 is being ordered; it contains the current firmware and EEROM.
Analyzers with serial prefixes 3410A and below were originally shipped with the smaller EEROM A2U501. If the instrument has a 16 MHz controller, but has the smaller EEROM, the EEROM Upgrade Kit must be ordered in addition to the Firmware Upgrade Kit. To determine if the EEROM Upgrade Kit is required, the A2 assembly must be inspected. If the EEROM is in the A2U501 position, or if the A2 assembly part number is 08564-60010 or higher, the EEROM Upgrade Kit (5063-0669) must be ordered.

Agilent 85620A Firmware Revisions

Mass memory module operation is controlled by ROM (read-only memory) firmware. The module firmware version is displayed after pressing the
Table 10 on page 15 for firmware versions of the module that are compatible with the different portable
spectrum analyzers.
It is possible to get a different set of functions from a given mass memory module with revision C firmware, depending on the firmware revision of the host spectrum analyzer. In spectrum analyzers with firmware revision 960401 and later, the firmware that controls the mass memory module actually resides in the host spectrum analyzer and contains a more recent set of features and functionality. If that same mass memory module is installed on a host spectrum analyzer with firmware revision 941028 or earlier, the firmware that resides in the mass memory module (revision A, B, or C) will control the features and functionality of the module.
Mass memory modules with revision A or B firmware are incompatible with host spectrum analyzers with firmware revision 960401 and later.
NOTE DLPs, traces, and limit-lines stored on memory cards using a mass-memory
module with firmware date code 910116 or later cannot be read into a module with an earlier firmware date code (for example 890524). However, DLPs, traces, and limit-lines stored on cards using modules with firmware date code 890524 or earlier can be read into a module with firmware date code 910116 or later.

Agilent 85629B Firmware Revisions

The firmware revision for the 85629B test and adjustment module (TAM) can be checked, when connected to a compatible 8560 Series spectrum analyzer, by pressing analyzer front panel. The firmware revision date code for the module will be listed at the top of the spectrum analyzer display. Each firmware revision is designed to test a specific version of spectrum analyzer. Table 9 on page 13 lists TAM firmware revisions A through E. Table 8 on page 13 lists TAM firmware revisions 920123 (F) and later. TAM firmware revisions A through E reside in the TAM. TAM firmware revisions 920123 and later are installed in the 8560 Series spectrum analyzer.
When testing a spectrum analyzer with TAM firmware revision 920123 or above, the TAM firmware installed in the spectrum analyzer will override the firmware in the TAM. When testing an earlier 8560 Series spectrum analyzer without TAM firmware installed, the firmware in the TAM will control the TAM. The firmware revision that is controlling the TAM can be easily identified using the procedure described above.

Compatibility of the 85629B and 8560 Series Spectrum Analyzers

The following two tables indicate the range of spectrum analyzer serial-number prefixes that are compatible with each revision of 85629B firmware. The TAM can be used with spectrum analyzers that have serial-number prefixes outside the range indicated in the following tables, but the TAM may not be fully compatible with the spectrum analyzer. The 8562E TAM interface software, available with 8562E Option 915, is required to use the TAM with the 8562E.
In general, firmware revisions are compatible with spectrum analyzers having lower serial-number prefixes than those shown (unless otherwise noted). The level of compatibility can be improved by replacing the TAM firmware with the latest version.
The TAM is not compatible with the 8564E or 8565E spectrum analyzer. The 8562E/TAM Interface Software is required to use the TAM with the 8562E. This software is provided with the 8562E Option
915.

When the 85629B TAM is installed on an 8560 E-Series spectrum analyzer, the TAM firmware date code will be 920504 or above, even though the same TAM might use date code 920327 or below (in the TAM) when installed on an earlier (non-E-Series) spectrum analyzer.
The sampler bias manual probe test using TAM firmware revision D and earlier, may cause an error message, Manual probe revision code of board is NOT known by this module, when testing any instrument with serial prefix 3017A and above. Press Current Rev. then More Info, for the actual voltage levels and compare the readings to the current specification of >1.2 V and <3.0 V.
The manual probe check of A7J16 using TAM firmware revision D and earlier has incorrect test limits for testing an 8561A/B serial prefix 3009A and above. Press More Info for the actual voltage levels and compare the readings to the specification of 1.95 V and ±0.25 V.
§
When testing an 8561A spectrum analyzer and attempting to execute test 9 immediately after test 8, testing stops with no warning or error indication. These two tests should not be performed in this sequence. If this condition exists, press abort to return to the Test Menu, where a different sequence of tests can be selected. For example, after completing test 8, select test 10 and after it is completed go back and select test 9.
