Solutions For All Your Needs
The HP 66111A
fast transient dc source
is our most economical offering in high performance, high throughput dc power supplies. It is designed to simplify the testing of cellular phones. The HP 66111A provides 5 Amp peak current sourcing and rapid, basic measurements in a compact, half-rack box. It offers fast command processing time as well as a new HP developed feature that automatically detects open sense connections that could cause incorrect test results due to erroneous voltage settings. Excellent voltage transient response ensures maximum test system throughput by minimizing test interruptions due to triggering of low voltage phone shutdown.
The HP 66111A is ideal for applications that require fast, accurate voltage and current measurement capability without the need for dynamic and microampere measurement capabilities. It is a great solution for operational verification of cellular phones during initial turn-on of board assemblies.
The HP 66311B and 66311D
mobile communications dc sources
are our single output offerings in high performance, high throughput, dynamic measurement system dc power supplies. They provide all the capabilities of the HP 66111A plus they rapidly and accurately perform peak and low-level current measurements. This feature allows you to characterize cellular phone current requirements under all operating conditions; ensuring cellular phone quality, critical battery specifications (run-time and standby-time) and high speed device testing. The HP 66311D offers all the same features as the HP 66311B and in addition has a built-in auxiliary digital voltmeter (DVM). This eliminates the need for a separate external DVM and significantly reduces test system complexity and saves on integration time.
The HP 66311B and HP 66311D are excellent for production environments requiring advanced measurement capability and fast transient response. They are great solutions for design characterization during product development, verification of critical battery specifications during calibration and alignment, or in final test.
NEW
The HP 66309B and HP 66309D
dual output mobile communications dc sources
are our newest offerings in high performance, high throughput dynamic measurement system dc power supplies. The HP 66309B and HP 66309D provide two outputs for the testing of both the main battery power and battery charger circuitry, which helps save on rack space – two outputs in a compact half rack box.
The main output of the HP 66309B and HP 66309D dual output mobile communications dc source includes all of the capabilities of the HP 66311B Mobile dc source. Additionally, the HP 66309B/D have a second output that is electrically isolated and is designed to provide either voltage or current for a charger input on the device under test. This output offers the necessary basic voltage and current measurement capability for testing the battery charger circuitry.
The HP 66309D offers all of the same features as the HP 66309B and in addition has a built-in auxiliary digital voltmeter (DVM). This gives you the flexibility to use the same test equipment to make extended measurements needed in production test (like measuring the DC voltages within a cellular phone, measuring relay switching voltages or other voltages in the test racks).
These high density power sources are great solutions for production environments that test both the main battery and the battery charger circuitry, and require advanced measurement capability and fast transient response.

Excellent Voltage Transient Response Characteristics
ensure maximum test system throughput by minimizing device shut downs due to transient voltage amplitude and recovery time. Low transient voltage droop allows phone testing at the low voltages necessary to simulate discharged battery operating conditions. An HP proprietary loop compensation design significantly reduces sensitivity to wiring impedance. Use the HP 66309B/D, HP 66311B/D, or HP 66111A in your set-up, and design in flexibility for future technology changes! For GSM, CDMA, TDMA, PCS, D E C T, TETRA, PHS, NADC standards and more, these characteristics ensure the throughput and yield you need during production test.
High Peak Current Capability
in a compact box provides the sourcing you need to test today’s wide variety of cellular phones and the comfort margin to prepare for tomorrow’s technologies.
High Speed Output Programming
increases test throughput. Command processing times of less than 4 ms and output programming response times of less than 200 µs increase throughput by reducing test cycle time.
Open Sense Lead Detect Proprietary Technology
enables users to automatically detect open sense wire connections, ensuring reliable, accurate voltage to the device under test. For battery powered devices, undetected open sense connections can cause incorrect battery charger calibration, suspect test results due to erroneous voltage setting and low voltage phone shut down due to a large transient voltage drop. Sense lead connectivity can be checked prior to testing each phone with virtually no impact on the test time. Even if checked only periodically, this diagnostic feature can prevent shipping low quality products.
Stable Sourcing Optimized for Multiple Configurations:
Two user-programmable compensation ranges ensure optimal performance over a wide range of cellular phone input capacitances and load-lead configurations.

Everything You Need and More...
Current Sinking of 2 A at 7.5 V for the main output of the mobile communications dc sources tests your built-in battery chargers, and provides the fast down-programming of the output you need for fast throughput.
Standard Programming Language
reduces software development time and preserve software investment. Software development is kept to a minimum through the use of the industry standard SCPI programming command set.
No Compromise Dynamic Measurement Performance:
One key challenge for testing cellular phones is to accurately measure both very low currents in the microampere range and high level millisecond peak pulse currents in the ampere range. The HP 66300 series supplies have the dynamic range to accomodate both low and high level current measurements as shown above.
Dynamic Current Pulse Measurement
provides the information you need to evaluate the battery loading characteristics of your cellular phones. The HP 66300 series digitizes the main output’s current waveform to provide the measurement parameters shown above. The displayed measurement parameters are calculated from data stored in a buffer. The buffer consists of up to 4,096 data points that are collected at a sample rate of 15.6 microseconds to 32,000 seconds per sample. The buffer size and sample rate are user- p r o g r a m m a b l e . Like an oscilloscope, measurements are triggered when the measured value crosses a user-specified voltage or current threshold. In addition to the measured parameters, both pre- and posttrigger buffer data can be returned to the computer.
Precision Voltage Measurement
allows you to accurately track charger voltage levels and prevent potential quality problems due to battery overcharge or undercharge.
One-Box Solution...
The HP 66300 Series lowers test system costs by reducing the number of instruments and rack or bench space needed for the system. Previously, test solutions to make pulsed and microamp current measurements required the use of an external voltmeter and current shunt. This additional equipment is no longer needed, resulting in less space required, lower cost, and simpler system design and integration.

Source Stability: User programmable compensation ranges (High Mode and Low Mode) on output 1 ensure power supply stability from 0-12,000 µF and over a wide variety of load-lead configurations. High Mode range for phone input capacitance greater than 5 µF gives the best transient voltage performance. Low Mode provides stability over difficult operating conditions. Output 2 is stable from 0-12,000 µF, and has no user programmable compensation ranges.
Output Programming Response Time: The rise and fall time (10/90% and 90/10%) of the output voltage is less than 200 µs for output 1 (< 3 ms rise time and < 35 ms fall time for output 2).
Command Processing Time: Average time required for the output voltage to begin to change following receipt of digital data is 4 ms for supplies connected directly to the HP-IB.
Measurement Time: Average time to process query, calculate measurement parameter and return data is 20 ms. The buffer data acquisition time which is user-programmable must be added. For the default condition, (2,048 data points and 15.6 µs sampling interval) this time is 31.9 ms. Measurement speed can be increased by using fewer data points, but will result in higher measurement uncertainty.
HP-IB Interface Capabilities: IEEE488.2, SCPI command set, plug and play drivers.
