OPERATION
Please make sure that you have already read and fully understand the WARNING section on page 1.
Making Measurements with the AC Current Probe Model MN379T
Connect the BNC connector to your voltage-measuring instrument. The AC current p ro be has an o utput of 200mV/A and 10mV/A . This means that wit h the probe in the 10mV/A position, for 100A AC in a conductor around which the probe is clamped, 1V AC will come out of the probe leads to your instrument. Select t he range which corresponds t o the measured current. If the current magnitude is unknown, start wit h the probe in the 10mV/A position and if t he current is < 5 amps the p robe can be switched to the 200mV/A posi tion for the higher resol ution. Clamp the probe a r oun d th e con ductor. With the probe in the 1 0mV/A position tak e the reading on the met er and multiply it b y 100 to obtain the measured current (e.g, 16 0m V reading = 160 x 100 = 16,000mA or 16A).
The 5A range is design t o measure on 5A c urrent transfo rmer. T he outp ut is 1V rms f or 5A me asured. Enter a scale factor in the meter if possible for direct reading.
For best accuracy, avoid if possible, the proximity of other conductors which may create noise.
Tips for Making Precise Measurements
When using a curre nt probe with a meter, it is impo rtant to select the range that p rovides the best resolution. Failure to do this may result in measurement errors.
Make sure that probe ja w mating surfa ces are free of dus t and contaminat ion. Contami nants caus e air gaps between the j aws, i ncrea sing the phase s hift betw een p rimar y and se co ndar y. It is very critical for power measurement.
MAINTENANCE: Warning
For maintenance use only original factory replacement parts.
To avoid electrical shock, do not attempt to perform any servicing unless you are qualified to do so.
To avoid electrical sh ock and/or damage to t he instrument, do n ot get water or other f oreign agents
into the probe
Cleaning
To ensure optimum p erforma nce, it is i mportant t o keep the probe jaw ma ting surf aces clea n at all time s. Failure to do so m ay result in err or in readings . To clean the p robe jaws, us e very fine sa nd paper (fine
600) to avoid scratching the jaw, then gently clean with a soft oiled cloth.
REPAIR AND CALIBRATION
You must contact our Service Center for a Customer Service Authorization number (CSA#). This will ensure that whe n your instrument arriv es, it will be tracked an d p rocessed promptl y. Ple ase w rit e t h e CS A# on the outside of the shipping container.
