bundle any logic, audio, or DC power lines from this unit with 400 Hz synchro
ring or AC power lines. Do not position this unit next to any device with a

In all installations, use shielded cable e xactly a s shown,
.
Significant problems may result from not following these guidelines. All audio installations can be seriously degraded by incorrect wiring and shielding, and
may result in abnormal cross
ally careful with all microphone wiring and tie line wiring, as these lines carry the lowest level signals in the aircraft.
The intercom tie lines should also be properly termi appropriate number of additional units, or with a load
2. In all installations that use the Dynamic microphone capability of the N335,
extreme care must be taken with the shielding and routing of the microphone wiring. This is especially true of the 5
ut, where typical signals are in the range of 100 shielding should be considered if there are any concerns about installation related noise. (headphone, radio
Headset and/or helmet wiring may also need to be reviewed if using Dynamic microphones. Many of the headsets and helmets on the market have minimal shielding for the wiring associated with the mic and phone circuits. Those with shielded wiring often use the Phone Lo connection for the shield ground. In the N335, the Phone Lo connection is not ground referenced, so the shielding has no effect. This will result in substantial coupling of the Phone signal onto the Microphone wires, leading to high levels of crosstalk in the intercom system. These shielding considerations also apply to in
line PTT cordsets. If a review of the headset wiring indicates there will be a problem with the shield termi ground at the headset jack/connector.
Set the headset volume control to the minimum volume setting prior to
conducting tests, and slowly increase the headset volume to a

2.4.3 Cabling and Wiring

All wire shall be selected in acco rdance with the original aircraft manufacturer's Maintenance Instructions or AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-76 through 11-78. Unshielded wire types shall qualify to MIL-W-22759 as specified in AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-85, 11-86, and listed in Table 11-11. For shielded wire applications, use Tefzel MIL-C-27500 shielded wire with solder sleeves (for shield terminations) to make the most compact and easily terminated interconnect. Follow the connector map in Section 2.7 as required.
Allow 3" from the end of the shielded wiring to the shield termination to allow the connector hood to be easily installed. Reference the interconnect drawing in Section 2.7 for shield termination details. Note that the hood is a "clamshell" hood, and is installed after the wiring is complete. Aircraft harnessing shall permit the unit to be removed from the panel for easy access to all side adjustments. Do NOT mount the unit until all adjustments have been performed.
Maintain wire segregation and route wiring in accordance with the original aircraft manufacturers Maintenance Instructions.
Unless otherwise noted, all wiring shall be a minimum of 22 AWG, except power and ground lines, which shall be a minimum of 20 AWG. Reference the Interconnect drawing for additional specifications. Check that the ground connection is clean and well secured, and that it shares no path with any electrically noisy aircraft accessories such as blowers, turn and bank instruments or similar loads. Power to this unit must be supplied from a separate circuit breaker or fuse (fast blow), and not attached to any other circuit breaker without additional protection. Verify that the selected circuit breaker size and wire gauge are adequate for the installation using the techniques specified in AC43.13-1B Change 1, Paragraphs 11-47 through 11-51 and 11-66 through 11-69.

Section 3.0 Operation

3.1 Introduction

Information in this section consists of the functional and operational procedures for the N335-001, N335-002, N335-201 and N335-202 Dual User Audio Controllers.
The unit will be referred to as the N335, and the operational features described in this m anual wi ll app l y to the N335-001, N335-002, N335-201 and N335-202 unless otherwise noted.

3.2 General Information

The N335 audio controllers are compatible with military and civil aviation headsets. The N335 controls the audio from multiple receivers, and allows transmission of mic audio to a selected transm itter. VOX intercom operation is also provided on a proprietary tie line to multiple units. A fully redundant backup system is selectable from the front panel, and a CVR output is provided.

The N335-201 and N335-202 are identical to the N335-001 an d N335-002 except that instead of annunciator LEDs, they have deadfront text annunciators.
All volume controls and the TX selector knob are illuminated for night operations.

3.3.1 Receiver Input Controls (N335-001 and -201 only)

The receiver input controls are plastic, edge-lighted knobs. The N335 has individual volume controls for each receiver. Rotating the control cw increas es the volume, and when the control is in the detent position (fully ccw) the receiver audio is switched off.

3.3.2 Transceiver Input Controls

3.3.3 Transmit Selection

The transmit selection control is an edge lighted plastic rotary control used to select the microphone for radio transmit, loudspeaker (LS) or Intercom (IC) operation. The TX function is ‘shared’ by the two headsets that can be connected to the N335. For N335-20x TX operations, the unit is configurable to allow user #1 to have priority over user #2.
N335-001 and -201 N335-002 and -202
For each of the transceivers there is an associated receive volume control knob (RX SEL, see section
3.2.2), which will effectively turn the receiver off if the fully ccw detent position is selected. However, if the Transmit Selection control has been used to select a radio for transmission that has been turned off by the relevant RX SEL control, an auto-receive feature will ensure a fixed level signal is audible at the headset.
The green TX LED or deadfront text will illuminate while the unit is in transmit mode. Selecting LS diverts microphone audio to the loudspeaker system. The loudspeaker sidetone (if
required) is pre-selected at the time of installation. When IC is selected, the transmit controls are keyed to ICS only.

Note: The N335 can be configured at the factory or by a qualified installer to provide automatic
selection of the Emergency mode in the event of power failure to the Normal channel. The

(Deadfront text on N335-201) When the N335-002 or -202 user presses the momentary CALL button, the green CALL LED (N335-001)
or deadfront text (N335-201) will illuminate to indicate that communication is requested. The CALL LED or deadfront text will only be illuminated while the CALL button is being pressed.

3.3.6 Miscellaneous Controls

3.3.6.1 ICS VOL
The ICS volume control (ICS VOL) controls the intercom volume at the operator’s headphones. Rotating the control cw increases the volume, ccw reduces the volume, and fully ccw is switched off.
3.3.6.2 RX VOL
The main RX volume control (RX VOL) is a master control for all receive inputs except direct audio inputs. Rotating the control cw increases the volume, ccw reduces the volume, and fully ccw is switched off.
3.3.6.3 MC MODE
The MIC MOD E control selects the mode of operation of the intercom mic. When the control is in the centre of its range, the intercom is in the VOX mode (voice activated). As the control is rotated counterclockwise, the system becomes more sensitive, until in the fully counterclockwise position it is in HOT mode (on constantly). As the control is rotated clockwise, the sensitivity decreases, until at the fully clockwise position it is in PTT mode (activated by cyclic or foot switch closure only).
