Children and the cooker
Children are by nature inquisitive and
interested in most things, including the
cooker. In the interests of safety we
should like to mention a few things that
you should think about if you have
children or are visited by children:
There must be a bench surface at least
40 cm wide on both sides of the cooker.
If you have

ceramic glass plates and ovens become
very hot and retain heat for some time
after use.

boiling over and/or cleaning, liquid can
penetrate to live electrical components.
Switch off the power to the cooker and
contact your local Service Force Centre.
Never lay aluminium foil, plastic
material or similar on the ceramic glass
plate. If one of the heating zones is
switched on by mistake, the material on it
can burn or melt.
Never leave a deep fat fryer, melting
fat, paraffin or other easily ignited
material without supervision. In the event
of fire, turn off the cooker knobs and
switch off the extractor fan.
THE FIRE WITH A POT LID
Never stand on the ceramic glass plate.
Check that the cooker is properly
turned off when it is not in use, with all
the knobs set at zero.
W arning! Alcohol and similar
substances that can produce explosive gases
or other substances that can cause fires or
explosions must not be used in the oven.
The ceramic glass plate must be used
with the greatest care. For example,
flaming with brandy or other forms of
alcohol can result in traces of fat in the
extractor fan igniting and causing serious
fires. In the same way, flames and
burning fat can cause injuries.
Do not place chemicals or cleaning
agents in the storage compartment.
EXTINGUISH
, never use water.
Cleaning
Keep the ceramic glass plate and the oven
clean. Grease and spilled material can
cause a great deal of smoke when heated
and, in the worse case, imply a risk of fire.
While the oven is still hot, you must use
the scraper blade immedi ately to remov e
sugar, and boiled -over material with a high
sugar content, f or ex am ple marmelade, as
well as melted plastic and fo il, to av o id
damaging the ceramic glass plat e. Be
careful, the blade is extremely shar p.
Maintenance and service
Turn all the knobs to zero before
replacing a burned-out oven lamp bulb.
Make sure that the cooker is thoroughly
switched off before replacing the bulb.
Pull out the plug for cookers fitted with
one. For other cookers, switch off the
power by using the multi-pole switch.
Service and repairs should be carried
out by a company that is approved by the
supplier. Use only genuine replacement
parts.
Disposal and recycling
The symbol on the product or the
packing material indicates that the
product may not be treated as household
refuse. Inst ead it must be taken to a
disposal station for recycling of the
electrical and electronic components.
By ensuring that the product is
handled in the right way, you are making
a contribution towards preventing
possible negative environmental and
health effects which can occur if the
product is disposed of as normal refuse.
For more detailed information about
recycling, contact your local authorities
or refuse collectors or the store where you
purchased the product.

The tipping protector only
functions when the cooker has been
pushed into position.
THIS IS HOW TO FIT THE TIPPING
PROTECTOR TO THE COOKER
:
1 Before fitting the anti-tip guard,
make sure that the cooker has been
adjusted to the correct height and
is standing level (see page 7).
2 The attachment (B) is fitted to the
left side when delivered. Measure
out where the anti-tip guard (A) is
to be located, 60 mm (2.4") down
from the edge of the ceramic glass
plate and 50 mm (2.0") from the
wall(cupboard). Screw it firmly
into solid material or use suitable
reinforcement. The entire anti-tip
guard (A+B) can also be located
on the right-hand side (
SEE FIG
Make sure that the surface
behind the cooker is smooth.
If there are tiles or a moulding
behind
the edge of the ceramic
glass plate then there must be a
space with the same dimension
between the anti-tip guard and
the wall. This is so that the antitip guard is firmly attached to
the cooker and functions
correctly.
. 1).
Check that the anti-tip guard
projects at least 20 mm (0.8")
into the hole in the back of the
cooker (B) when the cooker is
pushed in (

Using the oven grill
The oven grill has a marking on its upper
surface. This marking is to be to the front
(towards the oven door) when used . Ensure
that whatever is placed on the grill is beh ind
the marking, otherwise there is risk that it may
not be properly grilled at the front edge. The
grill can be placed in the baking shelf. The
maximum load for the grill is 10kg.
15
Page 17
Using the ceramic glass plate
The ceramic glass plate has four heating
zones. When you switch on a zone, it lights
up for varying lengths of time, depending on
the level you have selected on the knob. Even
when at the highest setting, the zone will
occasionally turn off in order to avoid
overheating.
The heat warning indicator has four
lamps, one for each zone. The lamp ligh ts up
if the zone is hotter than about 55°C even
after it has been switched off.
The glass in the ceramic glass plate tolerates
heat, cold and temperature shocks, but is
sensitive to impact. A pepper mill or spice jar
can crack the ceramic glass plate if it falls
onto it. Never stand on the ceramic glass
plate.
16
Page 18
Never use a cracked cer amic glass plat e
or a cooker with a cracked timer glass.
Immediately after use (while the
ceramic glass plate is still h ot) use the
blade scraper to remove sugar and
boiled-over material with a high
sugar content such as, for example,
marmelade as well as melted plastic
and foil to avoid damage to the plate.
Never leave a deep fat fryer, melting
fat, paraffin or other easily ignited
material without supervision. In the
event of fire, turn off the cooker
knobs and switch off the extractor

, never use water.
Make sure that there is no grit, sugar or
salt on the cooking utensils. Sand can
cause scratches while sugar and salt can
ruin the glass ceramic plate. Always
dry pots and pans before placing them
on the ceramic glass plate. The
coloured décor on the ceramic glass
plate can become worn and scratched in
time after it has been used.
The heating zones
The knobs for the heating zones are marked
from 0 to 12, where 12 provides the highest
heat. The knobs can be turned both
clockwise and anti-clockwise.
THIS IS HOW TO USE THE CERAMIC GLASS PLATE
1 Select a position on the knob for the
zone that you have selected.
2 Zero the knob after use.
You must experiment to find the setting and
the heating zone that suits you and your
pans, depending on what food you are
preparing. Here is a little guidance (to the
right heating setting):
17
:
Page 19
Choice of pan/frying pan
A cooker with a ceramic glass plate
demands more from you r pot s and pans t han
a cooker with heating plates. Remember the
following:
•Check the bottom of the pan. Pans with
a convex bottom (bulging outwards)
tend to swivel on the ceramic glass plate
and provide poor heating contact.
• Aluminium has good heat
conductivity, but can leave silvery
marks on the plate.
• Casseroles and pots that are made of
glass or are enamelled with coarse
patterns cause wear to the plate if
they are pulled backwards and
forwards, more so than pots and pan s
made of other materials.
In order to save both time and energy the
bottom of a pan/frying-pan must
•cover the zone completely. If the
bottom is too small, then boil-over
can easily stick to the plate.
•be smooth or finely patterned.
•be absolutely flat. If the bottom
bulges too much outwards or
inwards, heating-up times become
longer.
When you buy new pans, it is advisable to
choose a stainless steel model with a
sandwich bottom, that is to say a bottom
consisting of layers of different metals.
Certain pans are concave when cold. but
become flat when they are heated up.
18
Page 20
Save energy!
•Use a lid and you halve the energy
requirements (compare d with cooking
without a lid).
•Use pans with flat bottoms and save
25% energy (compared with uneven
bottoms).
•Make sure that the ceramic glass
plate is clean and dry. Dirt and
liquids impair heat transfer between
the pan and the heating zone.
•Switch off the heating zone and let
the food finish cooking on the
residual heat.
•Steaming and pressure cooking also
save energy.

Practical use
Never lay aluminium foil, a baking
tray or a shelf directly on the bottom
of the oven. If the bottom heating is
hindered, the enamel can be damaged
by over-heating. The oven becomes
hot when it is used,
KEEP AN EYE ON CHILDREN
In the case of temperature changes and/or
food such as pizza is unevenly placed on a
shelf, there is risk that the shelf will warp.
However it will return to its original form
when it cools down.
How do you utilise t he v ari ou s fu nct ion s
when you use the oven? Here is some
practical advice and a few tips on how best
to utilise the various oven functions for
different types of cooking:
Baking
Test sponge cakes with a cooking needle
about five minutes before the end of coo king
time. This gives you the opportunity to
shorten or extend the cooking time. The
result can be affected by the recipe as well as
the material, colour, form and size of the
cake tin.
.
Cooking
Follow the recommendations in the table.
25
Page 27
Roasting
Roasting in the oven in easy and practical.
Roast meat such as roast beef and fillets will
be juiciest if roasting is carried out at an
oven temperature of 125°C, but takes a little
longer time that if done at a higher oven
temperature. Choose an oven-proof dish with
low edges which is just the right size for the
roast, to avoid the meat juice from dr ying in.
Roasting a ham often results in a great deal
of meat juice. For this reason you should use
a large roasting dish or roasting pan and ne
careful when removing it from the oven.
Max Grill
The size, marble pattern (streaks of fat), the
shape, quantity and temperature of the meat
to be grilled all affect the time and the result.
Fish and white meat (poultry, veal and pork)
do not brown so easily as red meat (beef an d
game). Grill oil and/or grill spices provide a
better colour but increase the risk of burning
the surface of the meat.
The best grilling result is reached if the
meat to be grilled does not come directly
from the refrigerator. Dry the meat, place it
on the oven grill and season with spices as
desiredl. Place a roasting pan, preferably
covered with foil, under the grill to collect
any dripping fat, etc. Pork chops, steaks, fish
fillets, etc. should be positioned high up in
the oven, while thick spare ribs, etc. should
be placed in the lower part of the oven.
Set the function knob at and the
thermostat knob at the desired temperature,
max 250ºC. Start grilling after 3–5 minutes
pre-heating. Watch it carefully and turn the
meat or fish over at least once during grilling.
Grilling for too long results in dry, tasteless
and, in the worst cases, burned food. The
oven door must be closed during grilling.
26
Page 28
Cleaning and care
Never use a steam cleaner when
cleaning the cooker!
Cleaning the cooker
The easiest way to c lean the cooker is by using
a clean cloth, hot wate r and a little w ashing-up
liquid directly after the oven has been used.
NEVER USE SCOURING AGENTS OR OTHER
AGENTS THAT COULD CAUSE SCRATCHES
Remember that the tipping
protector does not work wh en
you have pulled out the cooker
in order to clean behind it.
Knobs and handles
Never put a hot rosting pan/
bakingtray/pan to clos e to the kn obs
because they can be damage by the
heat.
.
Never use scouring agents or other agents
that could cause scratches, such as sponges
with an abrasive surface. Use only soft
sponges or cloths.
Never try to remove a knob from
the panel on the cooker since t hi s
implies a safety risk and can cause
damage.

Practical advice and tips
ProblemCauseRemedy
Bread/yeasted doughs
and sponge cakes fall flat.
Bread/yeasted doughs
and sponge cakes turn
out dry.
If the oven temperature is
too low, the dough can rise
and then go down again and
become flat.
Bread/yeasted doughs have
not risen properly. If the
rising time after rolling is too
long, the result will be flat.
Bread/yeasted doughs should
rise at room temperature
out of draughts. The dough
should spring back after light
pressure on the surface
Not enough yeast or baking
powder.
If the fat/liquid mixture is
too hot, it ruins the effect of
the yeast.
Not enough liquid, too much
flour or the wrong type of
flour can result in dry bread.
If the oven temperature is
too low, the mixture must
stay in the oven much longer
in order to be cooked and it
therefore becomes dry.
Check the set temperature
against the
recommendations in tables
and recipes.
Check rising times against
recommendations in recipes.
Check in the recipe that you
have taken the right amount.
The correct temperature of
the liquid is 37° for fresh
yeast. Concerning dry yeast,
see the instructions on the
packet.
Check in the recipe that you
have taken the right type of
flour and the right amounts
of flour and liquid.
Check that you have set the
right temperature.

Page 39
The cakes/oven dishes are
too brown.
If the oven temperature is
too high, the cakes/oven
dishes become too brown
before they are completely
cooked.
Food positioned too high in
the oven, receiving too much
top heating when using top
and bottom heating, and the
opposite effect if placed too
low.
Check that you have set the
correct temperature.
Check in the table or recipe
that you have chosen the
correct position.
Cakes/oven dishes are too
pale in colour.
Aluminium foil, a tray or a
roasting pan on the bottom
of the oven is stopping the
bottom heating.
Light-coloured baking tins
give paler cakes than darkcoloured tins.
Make sure that there is
nothing on the bottom of the
oven.
Change to darker baking tins.
