S e tting the needle thread pre-tensioner
The needle t hread main tensioner 4 is opened w hile the t hread is cut, but to ensure t hat
the t hread is cut r eliably t he needle t hread must be under slight residual tension. This
residual tension is produced by th e needle t hread pre-tensioner 1.
The pre-tensioner 1 s imult aneously af fect s t he length of t he end of the c ut needle
thread, and hence t he thread length needed for t he next s ecure s eam st art.

Caution: danger of i njury
T urn of f t he main sw itch.
The hook thread tension m ay only be adjusted w ith t he
machine t urned of f.
Setting the hook thread tension
The hook thread tension s etting must be such as to produce a seam like t he one show n
in fig. a) in section 6.
`
At a r ecommended hook thread tension of 30g, for example, 15g should be
produced by the braking spring 1 and 15g by the t ension s pring 4.
`
The basic setting for t he tension s pring 4 is as f ollow s:
The bobbin housing m ust s low ly descend under it s ow n w eight. S ee the sketch in s ection 6.5.
The braking spring 1 prevent s t he bobbin f rom r unning on w hen the t hread is cut.
2
The t w o t ension v alues are adjusted as f ollow s:
`
Unscrew the r egulating screw 3 until the leaf spring 4 is no longer under tension.
`
Set t he braking s pring 1 by screw ing i n t he regulating screw 2 until half t he
recommended shuttle-tension v alue is exerted b y t he braking s pring.
`
Place t he bobbin in t he bobbin-housing t op and thread the looper thread (see section 6.5).
`
Place t he bobbin housing w ith bobbin in t he shuttle.
`
T urn the handw heel until the m achine has completed one stitch.
`
Use t he needle t hread to pull t he looper thread to the t op of the s titch hole.
`
Pull the looper thread dow nw ards at an angle of 45 °in the direction of sew ing.
About half t he tension v alue should be perceptible.
Then tighten regulating screw 3 t o t he recommended tension v alue.
