What To Do If You Smell Gas:
• Do not try to light any appliance.

Gear cabinets must be exhausted to the outdoors. Although the manufacturer produces a very versatile gear
cabinet, there are some articles that, due to fabric composition or cleaning method, should not be dried in it.

WARNING
Dry only water washed fabrics. Do not dry articles spotted or washed in dry cleaning solvents, combustible detergents, industrial chemicals, or “all purpose” cleaner. Explosion could result.
Do not dry rags or articles coated or contaminated with gasoline, kerosene, oil, paint, or wax. Explosion could result.
Items that have been spotted or soaked with vegetable or cooking oil constitute a fire hazard and should not be placed in the gear cabinet.
Do not dry mop heads. Contamination by wax or flammable solvents will create a fire hazard.
Do not use heat for drying articles that contain plastic, foam, sponge rubber, or similarly textured rubber materials. Drying may damage plastics or rubber and also may be a fire hazard.
The possible presence of residual quantities of aggressive or decomposed chemicals in the load may produce damage to the machine and harmful fumes.
A program should be established for the inspection and cleaning of lint in the burner area, exhaust ductwork, and area around the back of the gear cabinet. The inside of the gear cabinet must also be cleaned periodically. The frequency of inspection and cleaning can best be determined from experience at each location.

WARNING
The collection of lint in the burner area and exhaust ductwork can create a potential fire hazard.
Unless otherwise specified on the label, fiberglass fabric should not be dried in the gear cabinet. If fiberglass fabric is dried, remove remaining fibers with a damp cloth.
Always follow the washing and drying instructions on the garment label.
Do not operate if gear cabinet is grinding, smoking, or has broken or missing parts.
Safety devices must not be bypassed. For personal safety, the gear cabinet must be electrically
grounded in accordance with local codes and/or the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA NO. 70-LATEST EDITION or in Canada, the Canadian Electrical Codes Parts 1 & 2 CSA C22.1-1990 or LATEST EDITION.
NOTE: Failure to electrically ground the gear cabinet properly will void the warranty.

Personal injury or fire could result should the gear cabinet heat safety circuit ever be disabled.
Remove articles from the gear cabinet as soon as the drying cycle has been completed.

Articles left in the gear cabinet after the drying and cooling cycles have been completed can create a fire hazard.

The operation of this appliance may affect the operation of other types of gas appliances, which take their air for safe combustion from the same room. If in doubt, consult the appliance manufacturer(s).
Use this gear cabinet only for its intended purpose, drying fabrics.
The “cool down” cycle should be used to reduce the temperature of the items. They should not be removed from the gear cabinet or piled or stacked while hot.

Fabric softeners or similar products should not be used in a gear cabinet to eliminate the effects of static electricity unless this practice is specifically recommended by the manufacturer of the fabric softener or product.

Installation Procedures ______________
Installation should be performed by competent professional in accordance with local, state, and country codes. In the absence of these codes, the installation must conform to applicable American National Standards: ANSI Z223.1­LATEST EDITION (National Fuel Gas Code) or ANSI/NFPA NO. 70-LATEST EDITION (National Electrical Code) or in Canada, the installation must conform to applicable Canadian Standards: CAN/CGA-B149.1-M91 (Natural Gas) or CAN/CGA-B149.2-M91 (L.P . Gas) or LA TEST EDITION (for General Installation and Gas Plumbing) or Canadian Electrical Codes Parts 1 & 2 CSA C22.1-1990 or LATEST EDITION (for Electrical Connections).
Location Requirements ______________
Before installing the cabinet, be sure the location conforms to local codes and ordinances. In the absence of such codes or ordinances the location must conform with the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI.Z223.1 LATEST EDITION, or in Canada, the installation must conform to applicable Canadian Standards: CAN/CGA-B149.1-M91 (Natural Gas) or CAN/CGA-B149.2-M91 (L.P . Gas) or LA TEST EDITION (for General Installation and Gas Plumbing).
The gear cabinet must be installed on a sound level floor capable of supporting its weight. Carpeting must be removed from the floor area that the cabinet is to rest on.
The gear cabinet must not be installed or stored in an area where it will be exposed to water and/or weather.
Provisions for adequate air supply must be provided as noted in this manual (refer to Fresh Air Supply Requirements section).
Clearance provisions must be made from combustible construction as noted in this manual (refer to Enclosure Requirements section).
Provisions must be made for adequate clearances for servicing and for operation as noted in this manual (refer to Gear Cabinet Enclosure section).
The gear cabinet must be installed with a proper exhaust duct connection to the outside as noted in this manual (refer to Exhaust Requirements section).
The gear cabinet must be located in an area where correct exhaust venting can be achieved as noted in this manual (refer to Exhaust Requirements section).
Unpacking / Setting Up _______________
Remove protective shipping material (i.e., plastic wrap and optional shipping box) from the gear cabinet.
IMPORTANT: Gear cabinet must be transported and handled in an upright position at all times.
Level the Gear Cabinet
For optimum performance, the cabinet must be level front­to-back and side-to-side.
Gear Cabinet Enclosure Requirements _____________

1 3” (7.62 cm) opening at top of machine is required for removal or installation. 2 12” (30.48 cm) minimum, 36” (91.44 cm) recommended for ease of
installation, maintenance, and service.
3 0.25” (6 mm) clearance is recommended for removal or installation.
IMPORTANT: For maximum efficiency, gear cabinet should be located where a minimum amount of exhaust ducting will be necessary.
The gear cabinet must be installed with adequate clearance for air openings into the combustion chamber.
CAUTION: This gear cabinet produces combustible lint and must be exhausted to the outdoors. Every 6 months, inspect the exhaust ducting and remove any lint buildup.
IMPORTANT: The gear cabinet must be inst alled in a location/
environment, which the ambient temperature remains between 40° F (4.44° C) and 130° F (54.44° C).

Exhaust Requirements _______________
Exhaust ductwork should be designed and installed by a qualified professional. Improperly sized ductwork will create excessive back pressure, which results in slow drying, increased use of energy, and shutdown of the burner by the burner hi-limits or exhaust hi-limit protector thermostat. The cabinet must be installed with a proper exhaust duct connection to the outside.
The design of the flue system shall be such that any condensate formed when operating the appliance from cold shall either be retained and subsequently re-evaporated or discharged.
CAUTION: This gear cabinet produces combustible lint and must be exhausted to the outdoors.
Improperly sized or installed exhaust ductwork can create a potential fire hazard.

Venting

WARNING
NOTE: As per the National Fuel Gas Code, “Exhaust ducts for type 2 clothes dryers shall be constructed of sheet metal or other noncombustible material. Such ducts shall be equivalent in strength and corrosion resistance to ducts made of galvanized sheet steel not less than 26 gauge (0.0195-inches [0.50 mm]) thick.”
The ductwork for this appliance must be suitable for the appliance category in accordance with national installation regulations of the country of destination.
Outside Ductwork Protection
To protect the outside end of the horizontal ductwork from the weather, a 90° elbow bent downward should be installed where the exhaust exits the building. If the ductwork travels vertically up through the roof, it should be protected from the weather by using a 180° turn to point the opening downward. In either case, allow at least twice the diameter of the duct between the duct opening and the nearest obstruction (refer to the diagram).
IMPORTANT: Do not use screens, louvers, or caps on the outside opening of the exhaust ductwork.
Do not use inline lint filters. This can increase static pressure, decrease efficiency , and create a potential fire hazard.
CAUTION: This dryer produces combustible lint and must be exhausted to the outdoors.
Improperly sized or installed exhaust ductwork can create a potential fire hazard.
The ductwork should be laid out in such a way that the ductwork travels as directly as possible to the outdoors with as few turns as possible. Single or independent dryer venting is recommended. Ductwork should not be over 14 feet (4.3 meters) and two 90° elbows. The radius of the elbows should preferably be 1-1/2 times the diameter of the duct. All ductwork should be smooth inside with no projections from sheet metal screws or other obstructions, which will collect lint. When adding ducts, overlap the duct being connected. All ductwork joins must be taped to prevent moisture and lint from escaping in the building. Back draft dampers must be installed in all commonly ducted systems. Inspection doors should be installed at strategic points in the exhaust ductwork for periodic inspection and cleaning of lint from the ductwork.
IMPORTANT: Exhaust back pressure measured by a manometer/magnehelic in the exhaust duct must be no less than 0 and must not exceed 0.3 in WC (0.74 mb).
NOTE: It is recommended that exhaust or booster fans not be used in the exhaust ductwork system except where necessary to maintain exhaust back pressure (in the exhaust duct) between zero and 0.3 inch water column. Where employed, booster fans must not activate the dryer airflow proving switch (sail switch) when the dryer is not in operation.
When the exhaust ductwork passes through a wall, ceiling, or roof made of combustible materials, the opening must be 2-inches (5.08 cm) larger than the duct (all the way around). The duct must be centered within this opening.
For best performance provide an individual exhaust duct for each gear cabinet. Do not install a hot water heater in a room containing gear cabinets. It is better to have the water heater in a separate room with a separate air inlet.
Fresh Air Supply Requirements ______
This appliance may only be installed in a room that meets the appropriate ventilation requirements specified in the national installation regulations.
When the cabinet is operating, it draws in room air, heats it, passes this air through the cabinet, and exhausts it out of the building. Therefore, the room air must be continually replenished from the outdoors. If the make-up air is inadequate, drying time and drying efficiency will be adversely affected. Premature motor failure may occur from overheating. The cabinet must be installed with provisions for adequate combustion and make-up air supply.
Air supply (make-up air) must be given careful consideration to ensure proper performance of each cabinet. Fresh air ventilation openings shall not be blocked and/or sealed. As a general rule, an unrestricted air entrance from the outdoors of 128 inch on 1 inch2 [6.5 cm2] per 1,000 Btu [252 kcal].)
It is not necessary to have a separate make-up air opening for each cabinet. Common make-up air openings are acceptable. However, they must be set up in such a manner that the make-up air is distributed equally to all the cabinets.

Layout

Required make-up air opening (to the outside) for each gear cabinet is 60 square inches (387 sq. cm).
To compensate for the use of registers or louvers used over the openings, this area must be increased by approximately 33%. Make-up air openings should not be located in an area directly near where exhaust vents exit the building.
Allowances must be made for remote or constricting passageways or where cabinets are located at high altitudes or predominantly low pressure areas.

IMPORT ANT: Make-up air must be free of dry cleaning solvent fumes. Make-up air that is contaminated by dry cleaning solvent fumes will result in irreparable damage to the motors and other cabinet components.
NOTE: Component failure due to dry cleaning solvent fumes will void the warranty.
Electrical Information _________________
Electrical Requirements
All electrical connections must be made by a properly licensed and competent electrician. This is to ensure that the electrical installation is adequate and conforms to local, state, and national regulations or codes of the country of origin. In the absence of such codes, all electrical connections, materials, and workmanship must conform to the applicable requirements of the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA NO. 70-LATEST EDITION or in Canada, the Canadian Electrical Codes Parts 1 & 2 CSA C22.1-1990 or LATEST EDITION.
IMPORTANT: Failure to comply with these codes or ordinances, and/or the requirements stipulated in this manual can result in personal injury or component failure.
NOTE: Component failure due to improper installation will void the warranty .
Gear cabinet should be connected to an independently protected branch circuit. The gear cabinet must be connected with copper wire only. Do not use aluminum wire, which could cause a fire hazard. The copper conductor wire/cable must be of proper ampacity and insulation in accordance with electric codes for making all service connections.
NOTE: The use of aluminum wire will void the warranty. An individual ground circuit must be provided to each gear
cabinet, do not daisy chain. Component failure due to improper voltage application will
void the warranty . The manufacturer reserves the right to make changes in
specifications at any time without notice or obligation. IMPORTANT: A separate protected circuit must be provided
to each gear cabinet. It is necessary to have a power disconnect for each gear
cabinet. These disconnects must be located within 9 meters of the unit and also be identified as being one of two power sources supplying a dryer.
The dryer must be connected to the electric supply shown on the data label. In the case of 208 VAC or 230/240 VAC, the supply voltage must match the electric service specifications of the data label exactly.
The wire size must be properly sized to handle the related current.

WARNING
208 VAC and 230/240 VAC are not the same. Any damage done to dryer components due to improper voltage connections will automatically void the warranty.

Grounding
A ground (earth) connection must be provided and installed in accordance with local, state, and national regulations or codes of the country of origin. In the absence of these codes, grounding must conform to applicable requirements of the National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA NO. 70-LATEST EDITION, or in Canada, the installation must conform to applicable Canada Standards: Canadian Electrical Codes Parts 1 & 2 CSA C22.1-1990 or LATEST EDITION. The ground connection may be to a proven earth ground at the location service panel.
For added personal safety, when possible, it is suggested that a separate ground wire (size per local codes) be connected from the ground connection of the dryer to a grounded cold water pipe. Do not ground to a gas pipe or hot water pipe. The grounded cold water pipe must have metal-to-metal connection all the way to the electrical ground. If there are any nonmetallic interruptions, such as, a meter, pump, plastic, rubber, or other insulating connectors, they must be jumped out with a wire (size per local codes) and securely clamped to bare metal at both ends.
IMPORTANT: For personal safety and proper operation, the dryer must be grounded.
Provisions are made for ground connection in each dryer at the electrical service connection area.
Electrical Connections
A wiring diagram is located behind the control panel for connection data.
If local codes permit, power to the dryer can be made by the use of a flexible UL listed power cord/pigtail (wire size must conform to rating of dryer), or the dryer can be hard wired directly to the service breaker panel. In both cases, a strain relief must be installed where the wiring enters the dryer.

Single-Phase (1ø) Wiring Connections / Hookup
The electrical input connections are made into the rear service box. The ground connection is made to the copper lug, also provided in this box. To gain access, the service box cover must be removed.
120-240V Application with Neutral
CAUTION: The dryer must be grounded. A ground lug has been provided for this purpose.
Input connection wiring must be sized properly to handle the dryer’s current draw. This information is printed on the dryer’s data label.
208-240V Application without Neutral
CAUTION: The dryer must be grounded. A ground lug has been provided for this purpose.
Input connection wiring must be sized properly to handle the dryer’s current draw. This information is printed on the dryer’s data label.
IMPORTANT: A strain relief must be used where the input wiring enters the service box.
Preparation for Operation / Start-Up _
The following items should be checked before attempting to operate the cabinet:
• Read all “CAUTION,” “WARNING,” and “DIRECTION” labels attached to the cabinet.
• Check incoming supply voltage to be sure that it is the same as indicated on the data label. In the case of 208 VAC or 230/240 VAC, the supply voltage must match the electric service exactly .
• GAS MODELS – Check to ensure that the cabinet is connected to the type of heat/gas indicated on the cabinet data label.
• GAS MODELS – Be sure that all gas shutoff valves are in the open position.
• Be sure all back panels (guards) and electric box covers are in place.
• Be sure the service doors are closed and securely in place.
• Check bolts, nuts, screws, terminals, and fittings for tightness and security.
• Check that the vent is connected to the cabinet and is exhausted to the outdoors.
• STEAM MODELS – Check to ensure all steam shutoff valves are open.
Three-Phase (3ø) Wiring Connection
The electrical input connections are made at the rear service box, upper section of the cabinet. The ground connection is made to a copper lug also provided in this area. To gain access, remove rear service cover.
The electrical input connections to the dryer are the 3-phase (3ø) power leads (L1, L2, L3, and sometimes neutral) and ground. Single-phase (1ø) power for the transformer and single-phase (1ø) motors is done internally to the dryer by the factory at the oven contactor.
The neutral will only be used on 4-wire service. This is typical for 380-416V, 50 Hz.

Preoperational Test __________________
All cabinets are thoroughly tested and inspected before leaving the factory. However, a preoperational test should be performed before the cabinet is publicly used. It is possible that adjustments have changed in transit or due to marginal location (installation) conditions. Installer must instruct the user on how to correctly operate the dryer before leaving.
Turn on electric power to the gear cabinet. Refer to the Operating Instructions for starting your particular
model gear cabinet.
Electrical Cabinets
Check to ensure that electric oven/contactor assembly is activating.
Safety Related Circuits
Complete an operational check of the safety hi-limit thermostats.
Make a complete operational check of all operating controls.
Gas Models – Discontinue the gas supply. Shut off external gas supply shutoff valve. Shut off internal gas supply shutoff valve located in the gas
valve burner area. Steam Models – Discontinue the steam supply. Shut off external (location furnished) shutoff valves. Remove the door.
Microprocessor Programs / Selections
Each microprocessor controller (computer) has been preprogrammed by the factory with the most commonly used parameter (program) selections. If computer program changes are required, refer to the computer programming manual, which was shipped with the cabinet.
Preoperational Instructions __________
Preparing the Gear
Liner and shell should be washed separately and should not be reassembled before drying. To dry, arrange gear as follows: shell, liner, shell, liner, etc.
Microprocessor Controller (Computer)
IMPORTANT: For more detailed information regarding the microprocessor controller (computer), refer to the microprocessor user’s manual included with the cabinet. The L.E.D. display reads “READY” (no cycle in progress).
Press the letter on the keypad corresponding to the cycle desired (e.g. key “D”). Then press START/ENTER button.
The cabinet will then start. The L.E.D. display will read MANUAL DRYING CYCLE D,
___MIN REMAIN. NOTE: The cabinet can be stopped at any time by pressing
the “STOP/CLEAR” key , at this time the cabinet will go into a cycle pause. If the “STOP/CLEAR” key is pressed again at this point, the cycle that was in progress will be cancelled and returned to the “READY” state.
When the programmed drying time has expired, the non­coin microprocessor controller (computer) will proceed into the Cool Down Cycle.
Once the Cool Down Cycle begins at the end of the heat cycle, the L.E.D. display will read COOL DOWN TEMP __/__ MINUTES remaining. At the end of the heat cycle, the cabinet will shut off the heat and continue the fan until the Cool Down Time or temperature is reached.

Returning Warranty Cards

Before any gear cabinet leaves the factory test area, a warranty card is placed on the inside of the main door glass. These warranty cards are intended to serve the customer where we record the individual installation date and warranty information to better serve you should you file a warranty claim.
If a warranty card did not come with your gear cabinet, contact the Warranty Department or the Service Department at +1 (508) 678-9000.
IMPORTANT: A separate warranty card must be completed and returned for each individual gear cabinet.
Shutdown Instructions _______________
If the cabinet is to be shutdown (taken out of service) for a period of time, the following must be performed:
Discontinue power to the cabinet either at the external disconnect switch or the circuit breaker.
Discontinue the heat supply:

No parts are to be returned without prior written authorization (R.M.A.) from the factory .
Routine Maintenance _________________

Cleaning

A program and/or schedule should be established for periodic inspection, cleaning, and removal of lint from various areas of the cabinet, as well as throughout the ductwork system. The frequency of cleaning can best be determined from experience at each location. Maximum operating efficiency is dependent upon proper airflow. The accumulation of lint can restrict this airflow. If the guidelines in this section are met, the cabinet will provide many years of efficient, trouble free, and most importantly , safe operation.
NOTE: An R.M.A. is valid for only 30 days from date of issue. The R.M.A. issued by the factory, as well as any other
correspondence pertaining to the returned part(s), must be included inside the package with the failed merchandise.
Each part must be tagged with the following information: Model number and serial number of the gear cabinet from
which part was removed. Nature of failure (be specific). Date of cabinet installation. Date of part failure. Specify whether the part(s) being returned is for a credit,
replacement, or a refund. NOTE: If a part is marked for a credit or a refund, the invoice
number covering the purchase of the replacement part must be provided.
Warranty tags (Part No. 450064) are available at “no charge” from ADC upon request.
The company returning the part(s) must clearly note the complete company name and address on the outside of the package.
All returns must be properly packaged to ensure that they are not damaged in transit. Damage claims are the responsibility of the shipper.
IMPORTANT: No replacements, credits, or refunds will be issued for merchandise damaged in transit.

WARNING
Lint from most fabrics is highly combustible. The accumulation of lint can create a potential fire hazard. Keep gear cabinet area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
NOTE: Suggested time intervals shown are for average
usage, which is considered 6 to 8 operational (running) hours per day.
IMPORTANT: Gear cabinet produces combustible lint and must be exhausted to the outdoors. Every 6 months, inspect the exhaust ducting and remove any lint buildup.
Suggested Cleaning Schedule Weekly
Clean lint accumulation from thermostat and microprocessor temperature sensor area.

WARNING
To avoid the hazard of electrical shock, discontinue electrical supply to the cabinet.
Steam Dryers
Clean the steam coil fins. It is suggested that compressed air and a vacuum cleaner with brush attachment be used.
All returns should be shipped to the factory in such a manner that they are insured and a proof of delivery can be obtained by the sender.
Shipping charges are not the responsibility of ADC. All returns should be “prepaid” to the factory. Any “C.O.D.” or “COLLECT” returns will not be accepted.
IMPORTANT: No replacements, credits, or refunds will be issued if the claim cannot be processed due to insufficient information. The party filing the claim will be notified in writing, either by “FAX” or “CERTIFIED MAIL – Return Receipt Requested,” as to the information necessary to process claim. If a reply is not received by the Warranty Department within 30 days from the FAX/letter date, then no replacements, credits, or refunds will be issued, and the merchandise will be discarded.

When cleaning steam coil fins, be careful not to bend the fins. If fins are bent, straighten by using a fin comb, which is available from local air-conditioning supply houses.
90 Days
Remove lint from burner area with a dusting brush or vacuum cleaner attachment.
Clean any lint accumulation in and around the motor(s) casing opening.
Every 6 Months
Inspect and remove lint accumulation in customer furnished exhaust ductwork system and from dryer’s internal exhaust ducting.
NOTE: The accumulation of lint in the exhaust ductwork can create a potential fire hazard.

WARNING
NOTE: Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. Check back draft dampers in the exhaust ductwork. Inspect and remove any lint accumulation, which can cause the damper to bind or stick.
A back draft damper that is sticking partially closed can result in slow drying and shutdown of heat circuit safety switches or thermostats.
When cleaning the gear cabinet(s), avoid using harsh abrasives. A product intended for the cleaning of appliances is recommended.
Adjustments 7 Days After Installation
and Every 12 Months Thereafter
Inspect bolts, nuts, screws, setscrews, grounding connections. Complete an operational check of controls. Complete an operational check of safety hi-limit thermostats.
