AAF CARBON SIDE ACCESS FILTER HOUSING
INSTALLATION AND OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION… Review these instructions and all safety procedures with your safety officer.
INSTALLATION OF HOUSING
1. Be sure position of housing access door(s) and direction of airflow
is correct prior to connecting ductwork.
- A minimum of 3 feet clearance is recommended for filter change out -
2. The housing should be permanently connected to the ductwork by
welding, bolting, or riveting. The housing to ductwork connection
should be suitably sealed with caulk or gasket material to
preclude leakage.
3. Following installation of the housing, the system should be
“Vacuumed out” or “Blown-Down” to remove construction dust,
etc., before installing the filters.
INSTALLATION OF FILTERS
1. Leave the filters in the shipping cartons until transported to the
proper housing location. Do not unpack the filters until time of
installation. Unpack the filters taking care not to cause damage.
2. Open the housing access door by unlatching the positive pressure
trip lock latches. The housing door is hinged and can be swung
open completely.
3. There are no locking mechanisms for the pre-filter or the carbon
trays on the Carbon housing.

4. Load pre-filters into the housing insuring that the filters are
installed in the correct position. When airflow is horizontal, filter
pleats must run vertical. Gently but firmly push the filter until it
touches the back of the housing or as far as can be reached. On
multi-wide filter housings repeat the procedure for each filter
until all filters are installed.
5. Remove the carbon trays from their shipping containers. Load
the trays into each track. Gently but firmly push each tray until it
touches the back of the housing or as far as can be reached. On
multi-wide carbon housings repeat the procedure for each tray
until all trays are installed
6. Swing the access door to the closed position and latch the door
securely. The pre-filters and carbon trays are locked into position
when the access door is secured.
7. Filter change out is carried out in the same manner when filters
reach their design final resistance. Spent filters are removed and
clean filters re-installed in the manner described above.
8. Carbon tray change out is carried out in the same manner when
the carbon in the tray has adsorbed the maximum amount of odor
or gas that it can. Spent carbon trays should be disposed of
properly per all local and Federal regulations.
