1 Modem Introduction
1.1 Introduction
Thank you for using ZTE HSDPA USB Modem. To guarantee the modem is always in its best condition, please read this manual carefully and keep it for further use.
The ZTE HSDPA USB Modem is a type of multi-mode, 3G modem, suitable for GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA networks. It adopts a standard USB interface used by most notebook PCs. With the GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE/ WCDMA/ HSDPA mobile network, it can help you access data services and will help you break away from the limits of a fixed location, and realize wireless communication at any moment everywhere.
The pictures, symbols and content in this manual are just for your reference. They might not be completely identical with your modem. We operate a policy of continuous development. We reserve the right to update the technical specifications in this document at any time without prior notice.
1.2 Warning and Notice
To the owner
Some electronic devices, if inadequately shielded are susceptible to
electromagnetic interference sent by the modem, such as electronic system of vehicles. Please consult the manufacturer of the device before using the modem if necessary.
Operating of notebook PC and modem may interfere with medical
devices like hearing aids and pacemakers. Please always keep them more than 20 centimeters away from such medical devices when they are turned on. Turn the modem off if necessary. Consult a physician or the manufacturer of the medical device before using the modem.

Be aware of the usage limitation when using the modem in places
where there are explosive gases or explosive products being used, including petrol stations, chemical facilities, etc. Turn off your modem if required.
Don’t touch the inner antenna area, otherwise it will affect your
modem’s performance.
Store the modem out of the reach of little children. The modem may
cause injury if used as a toy.
Modem
Please use original accessories or accessories that are authorized.
Using any unauthorized accessories may affect your modem’s performance, and violate related national regulations concerning telecom terminals.
Avoid using the modem near metallic structures, devices or
establishments that can emit electromagnet waves. Otherwise it may adversely influence received signals.
The modem is not waterproof. Please keep it dry and store in shady
and cool place.
Do not use the modem immediately after a sudden temperature change.
In such case, it will produce dew inside and outside the modem. Please wait until it dries before use.
Treat the modem carefully. Do not expose to shock or attempt to bend
or twist it, this could lead to irreversible damage.
Do not dismantle the modem. Any maintenance or repair should be
carried out by a ZTE approved agent. Please consult your distributor.

Please power off the modem before take off. In order to protect an
airplanes communication system from interference, modem use is not permitted when in flight. Use before take off should be in accordance with the relevant prevailing air safety regulations.

2.1 Appearance
2 Installation
2.2 Software Installation
Install the software before connecting your modem to your PC.
Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive.
Download the installation software package, double click it, and then
follow the steps to install.
The following installation interface will show how to start installation.

Click Continue. You will be guided through the steps necessary to
install this software and click Continue.

Select a destination volume to install software on the volume
“Macintosh HD”, and then click Continue.

Please enter user name and password to be authenticated, and left
click OK to install.
Installation is in progress, after a while, there will be a tip as follows:

Left click Restart to restart computer and finish software installation.
NoteIf you have problems with installation after the above
operation, please contact the service provider for help.
After the installation, select FinderApplications and there will be a

ZTE MOBILE CONNECTION program listed.
2.3 Running Application Software
After the connection manager is installed and connected normally, double click Finder Applications ZTE MOBILE CONNECTION on the notebook to run the application software.
2.4 Disconnecting the Modem Safely
Please quit the application software first, and then pull out the modem USB cable.
2.5 Software Un-install
Close the application program before uninstalling the software.
Select FinderApplicationsZTE MOBILE CONNECTION and
select Move to Trash in right click menu of ZTE MOBILE CONNECTION on the notebook.

3 Functions & Operation
Internet
Connect to the Internet.
Settings:
Set normal relative information for the modem.
Record:
View related information for your operation, such as user name, start time, disconnect time, duration, data received and data sent.
Help:
System information for Help.
3.1 Interface Introduction
The following diagrams show the main interface of USB modem application software, forming three principal areas of functionality. The related functions can be executed by operation in corresponding areas.
1. Functional Button Area
There will be various functional button icons shown in this area. Select different function button and it will carry out corresponding operation.
2. System Information Area
Show the system status and different kinds of tip.

Letter P means supporting packet-switch (P) service, while letter C means supporting circuit switch (C) service.
Indicates insert status of the modem, Green indicates it has been connected to the computer.
Red indicates disconnected.
Indicates insert status of the SIM/USIM card to the mode.
Green indicates the card has been inserted, and Red indicates the card has not been inserted.
3. User Area
Show the interactive computer information under various conditions.
3.2 Connecting to the Internet
You can browse web pages after you have accessed to Internet through the modem.

Click the Internet icon, pop-up window is as follows:

To ensure the connection manager connects to Internet properly,
configure users network information first. You can save different operators network configurations in different files.

Press + or - to create or delete a configuration file and edit details.

The user configuration information includes: Description (Configuration filename), Telephone Number, Account
Name, Password, APN, DNS, and PDP address.
If the network supports Obtain server address automatically, the
connection manager can obtain the assigned IP information automatically.
If the network does not support it, you should fill in the proper
address manually. Please consult the network supplier for all above information.
The user configuration information may differ with the network
supplier and network types.
And then click Connect to start connecting Internet.

When connected, and it will show all the information of data flow, connection time, etc.
During the course of connecting, you can Cancel the connection. With connection successful, the Connect button becomes Disconnect.
Note: The modem has the function of network locking the SIM/USIM card. If you use the SIM/USIM card provided by another network service provider, you will not be able to connect to that network. To resolve any problem, you can consult your original network service provider for further information.
2. Disconnecting from the Internet
Click the Disconnect button to disconnect from the Internet. With disconnection successful, the button Disconnect becomes Connect.

3. Internet Log
Click the Dial Record icon, and switch to the Internet log interface. You can view related information for your operation, such as user name, start time, disconnect time, duration, data received and data sent.
3.3 Settings
Click Settings icon to switch to the settings interface. It includes security settings and network settings.

3.3.1 Security Settings

When the PIN enable item is selected, you will be asked to enter your PIN code to use the modem. You can click Revise PIN to modify the number.

Note: This function needs network support.
Automatic
The system selects the network automatically
according to user’s configuration rules and
network status.
Manual
User selects network in manual way.
3.3.2 Network Settings
Select network Automatic, the system will find the network
available automatically.
Select network Manual. After a while, network operator list
appears with unavailable operator networks highlighted in red. Select the required network to connect.

3.4 Help
Click the Help icon on the application interface to switch to help pop-up windows. Under Help you will find USB modem information introducing each function, installation and usage guides, application software and hardware information, etc.

4 FAQ & Answers
Problem
Description
Possible Causes
Problem Solving
After restarting the computer, there is no signal.
1. The position of the USB modem is causing poor signal reception
1Adjust the angle and position of the USB
modem.
2You are in a place of no or very low GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE/ WCDMA/ HSDPA network coverage. ,This includes underground facilities, tunnels, etc.
2. Change location, moving to an area with good signal strength.
Data connection failed.
1. You are in a place where no GSM/ GPRS / EDGE/ WCDMA/ HSDPA network coverage
1. Change to a location with good signal as above.
2. The network in your location is currently very busy.
2. Try later, or move location to a less busy network service area.
3. The APN in the user configuration file is error.
3. Check the APN in the user configuration file in
the “Internet--Edit Configure” menu.
4. Modem data is corrupted.
4. There is a possible network problem. Please contact with your network operator

Connected to the Internet, but cannot open any website page.
1. After connection, there is no data transfer, resulting in the inability to open web pages.
1. Check that the APN in the Default Configuration is correct.
2. The IE browser may have encountered problems.
2, Upgrade to a new version or reinstall the IE browser.
3. The operating system is infected by a virus.
3. Use a professional anti-virus software to check and remove the virus.
4. You have connected to an APN, which cannot connect to the Internet.
4. Contact your network operator to confirm the correct APN setting.
