1. Important Safety Instructions
Read the safety and operating instructions carefully before using the VooMote Air, even if you are familiar with similar electronic
devices. When using the VooMote Air, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of death and injury,
electrical shock, re or damage to the device being controlled, including the following:
1. Check the VooMote Air for any damage before initial use. If you nd any damage, please return the damaged VooMote Air to the vendor you
purchased the VooMote Air from for repair or replacement.
2. Do not use the VooMote Air near water (for example in the rain, near bathtub, kitchen sink or swimming pool). The VooMote Air is only intended
to be used in closed, dry rooms.
3. Never spill liquid of any kind on the VooMote Air.
4. Do not drop, crush, crunch or bend the VooMote Air. Turn the base of the VooMote Air counterclockwise in order to insert or change batteries.
5. Do not use the VooMote Air as a physical tool.
6. The VooMote Air is solely intended for use as a remote control for TVs, radios, set top boxes and similar CE-devices in closed, dry rooms at a
temperature from 41° F to 113° F (5° C to 45° C)
7. Stop using the VooMote Air immediately and return it for servicing to an authorized servicing center if the VooMote Air is exposed to humidity
or other liquids.
8. Do not heat the VooMote Air in a microwave, oven or open re. Do not expose the VooMote Air to excessive heat. The VooMote Air may release
toxic vapors or explode if exposed to excessive heat. Please also see chapter 1.1. Important notes on handling batteries.
9. Follow all iPhone or iPad safety instructions while using with the VooMote Air.
1.1. Important no tes on handling b atteries
To use the VooMote Air, AA batteries are needed. Please read and adhere to the following notes on handling batteries to avoid
death, serious bodily injuries, property damage and damage to the VooMote Air.
1. The VooMote Air requires four AA batteries. When batteries are dead (maximum infrared distance is not reached any more), please dispose
empty batteries properly. Empty batteries are not household waste and, in some jurisdictions, must be disposed of at designated points.
2. The following actions may lead to an explosion or destruction of batteries and therefore must be avoided:
a. Charging dead batteries
b. Reactivating dead batteries in any way
c. Throwing batteries in an open re or any exposure to excessive heat.
d. Opening or crunching batteries.
e. Short-circuit batteries
An exploding battery can lead to heavy bodily injuries and property damage.
3. The VooMote Air will continuously drain battery-life when in use. Batteries must be exchanged if the battery life is to low and no longer allows
for complete control within the dened IR radius and distance. When changing batteries, use 4 new batteries of the same type brand name and
power supply (ampere hours and voltage). Always exchange all 4 batteries at one time to make sure that the batteries are equally discharged
to avoid environmental damages.
4. If you intend not to use VooMote Air for a longer period of time (more than 6 months) remove batteries from the VooMote Air to avoid risk of
damage to the VooMote Air from battery acid.
5. If one or more batteries are damaged from battery acid, you must wear safety gloves when removing batteries from VooMote Air to avoid bodily
injuries, such as chemical burns from battery acid. Make sure that battery contacts are free from battery acid or other dirt before using new
batteries with the VooMote Air. If you nd battery acid on the battery contacts clean the contacts with a clean, dry cotton cloth before inserting
new batteries.
English
6. Avoid any type of contact between battery acid and your skin, your eyes and your mouth. Battery acid can lead to heavy chemical burns on
your skin. Battery acid is acutely poisonous and can lead to blindness if it comes in contact with eyes. If you nd one or more damaged batteries in your VooMote Air, please be very careful when removing the battery. Properly dispose the damaged battery at a designated location.
English
7. Please ensure that you follow the plus and minus icons to insert the batteries correctly.
2. Technical Data
To use the VooMote Air, 4 AA batteries are needed.
To ensure the maximum reach and radius from the VooMote Air’s LED, make sure your device and the VooMote Air are directly facing one another.
Average sending distance of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE): 20 meter (dependent on size of room, number and thickness of walls between iPhone /
iPad and the VooMote Air).
3. Getting Started
3.1. Unboxing the VooMote Air
After unboxing the VooMote Air please check whether all parts are in good condition and not broken or damaged. If the casing of the VooMote Air
is damaged, do not use the VooMote Air and return the complete package to your vendor to have it refurbished or exchanged.
Using a damaged VooMote Air can lead to bodily injury or property damage because damaged plastics can have sharp edges,
which can cause injury while positioning or alining the VooMote Air. Furthermore, you can expose electrical circuitry which could
cause a re or electrical shock.
3.2. St art Up the VooMote A ir
When using the VooMote Air for the rst time, you will need to insert batteries. Therefore please unlock the base of the VooMote Air by turning it
counterclockwise. Take off the base and insert the included batteries. Please make sure you insert the batteries correctly.
If you notice any battery acid on the batteries, please return the complete VooMote Air package to your vendor. Avoid any contact
with your skin or eyes. Contact with your eyes can cause loss of sight. If battery acid comes in contact with your skin, wash the
affected area with warm water and consult a doctor in the event of any reactions (itching, burning etc.) In case of contact with eyes,
please rinse eyes thoroughly and consult a doctor immediately.
After inserting the batteries, please put the base back on the VooMote Air and lock it by turning the base clockwise
The base is constructed to pull itself tightly to the bottom of the case. Please lock the base carefully so you do not pinch your skin.
In case you did not already install the VooMote Air App on your iPhone or iPad, please go to the App Store and search for the VooMote Air App.
For further information about the initial setup please read the quick start guide.
67
3.3. Fir st Setup
To send infrared-signals through the VooMote Air, you have to establish a connection between the VooMote Air and an iPhone 4S or an iPad 3rd
Generation via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth chip in the VooMote Air is automatically activated, as soon as the VooMote Air is powered by the included
batteries. To use the VooMote Air, you have to connect the VooMote Air to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth connection.
Therefore please activate Bluetooth on your iPhone or iPad. Afterwards please open the VooMote Air App on your iPhone or iPad. After starting the VooMote Air App, the found VooMote Air will be displayed. You must set up the VooMote Air once according to the instructions within
the App. After initial set up, connection between your iPad / Phone and the VooMote Air will automatically take place when the devices are in
proximity with one another.
4. Using the VooMote Air
4.1. General Information
The VooMote Air is solely intended for use as a remote control in combination with an iPhone 4S or iPad (3rd Generation). It is designed to be
used solely with control consumer electronic devices such as TVs, radios, set top boxes (or similar infrared controlled devices that are commonly
in home entertainment systems) in closed, dry rooms at a temperature from 41° F to 113° F (5° C to 45° C). Any other use of the VooMote Air is
considered improper and is not allowed.
To control consumer electronic devices already congured in the VooMote Air App or to setup new devices, the VooMote Air must
be connected to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth and the App must be running.
The VooMote Air contains sensitive electronics. If the VooMote Air is exposed to moisture including, but not limited to, rain, spray,
humidity (e.g. steam), drops of liquids etc., you are risking the danger of electrical shock. Therefore do not use the VooMote Air
next to a bath tub, a kitchen sink or other areas where it would be exposed to moisture. Immediately stop using the VooMote Air
and return it for servicing to an authorized servicing center if the VooMote Air is exposed to moisture or any kind of liquids. Any
noncompliance with the instructions in this manual can lead to damage to your VooMote Air.
To nd the nearest servicing center or for a current list of compatible devices please visit our website www.voomote.tv/en/
4.2. Positioning the VooMote Air
Position the VooMote Air at a place, where it is not exposed to direct sunlight or intense heat. Do not place the VooMote Air on sources of heat like
heaters or on ventilation units or any electronic device, because the batteries could iname or explode due to the heat. Please also avoid places,
in which the VooMote Air is exposed to temperature variations or very high or very low temperatures, which could cause a shorter battery life.
To control a consumer electronic device, there has to be a line of sight between the VooMote Air’s built-in LED blaster and the device; the
maximum distance must not be more than 10 meters. Please make sure that the see-through area at the top of the VooMote Air is facing the
devices you wish to control. If the controlled device (e.g. a Set-Top-Box) is located behind a glass plate in a cupboard, please check if the glass
allows the infrared signals to pass through.
4.3. Controlling Devices
Every device that has already been set up and that is saved in the VooMote Air App can be controlled with a compatible iPhone or iPad, as long
as the VooMote Air is active and the VooMote Air is connected to your iPhone or iPad via Bluetooth. Please make sure the distance between
the iPhone or iPad and the device you wish to control is not greater than 20 meter and that no carrying walls interfere with the Bluetooth signal.
English
Please note that different aspects could inuence and lower the Bluetooth signal reach. Please also make sure that the distance between the
VooMote Air and the device you wish to control is a maximum of 10 meters and that there is a line of sight between the VooMote Air and the
device you wish to control and that there are no candles or other objects between the VooMote Air and the device you wish to control because
English
candles and other objects might change or block the infrared signal sent by the VooMote Air. Otherwise, the device you wish to control can not
receive the signals sent by the VooMote Air.
Infrared signals always need a direct line of sight. If you are trying to control a device that is not in line of sight of the VooMote Air, it
will not work. Infrared signals contain infrared waves that are also part of sunlight. If you are using the VooMote Air in direct sunlight,
you might encounter problems controlling your devices.
Further information about troubleshooting can be found in chapter 8. Troubleshooting
4.4. Usag e of the VooMote Air
The VooMote Air contains sensitive electronics and should therefore only be stored in dry rooms with a temperature from 5° C to 45° C (41° F
to 113° F).
The VooMote Air packaging contains parts which can lead to serious injury or even death if swallowed. Therefore do not leave small
children unattended with the VooMote Air and its packaging to avoid serious injury or death.
4.5. Battery Change
Should you notice the loss of control of one or more set up devices while using the VooMote Air, please change the batteries because they may
be out of power. Please make sure you put the batteries in the correct area when replacing them. A wrong polarity could lead to electrical short
circuit of the batteries and could cause an explosion of the batteries.
5. Maintaining the VooMote Air
5.1. Cleaning the VooMote Air
Only clean the VooMote Air using a soft, dry or slightly damp linen or cotton cloth. Do not use hard or sharp objects, sprays, chemicals, caustic
liquids, etc. because this might damage the VooMote Air casing.
5.2. Rep airing the VooMo te Air
If you notice that you are not able to control any devices you have already set up and you are also not able to set up any further supported
devices while the VooMote Air is connected to your iPhone or iPad, please see the trouble-shooting section (chapter 8) within this manual.
