The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or
battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
WORK AREA SAFETY
• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
• Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of
flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust
or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can
cause you to lose control.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not
use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and
matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
• Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators,
ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
earthed or grounded.
• Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will
increase the risk of electric shock.
• Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the
power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or
entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
• When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor
use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
• If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current
device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
PERSONAL SAFETY
• Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a
power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of
drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may
result in serious personal injury.
• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective
equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used
for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
• Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before
connecting to power source and/or battery pack and when picking up or carrying

the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that
have the switch on invites accidents.
• Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench
or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
• Do not over-reach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better
control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
• Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and
gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in
moving parts.
• If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities,
ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-
related hazards.
POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
• Do not force the power tool. Use the power tool for your application. The correct power tool
will do the job better and more safely at the rate for which it was designed.
• Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that
cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
• Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power
tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.
Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
• Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar
with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are
dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
• Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of
parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged,
have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained
power tools.
• Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting
edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
• Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions,
taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the
power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
SERVICE
• Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical
replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
SPECIFIC SAFETY WARNINGS
• Keep all parts of the body away from the saw chain when the chainsaw is operating.
Before you start the chainsaw, make sure the saw chain is not in contact with anything.
A moment of inattention while operating chainsaws may cause entanglement of your clothing
or body with the saw chain.
• Always hold the chainsaw with your right hand on the rear handle and your left hand

WARNING (Proposition 65): Some dust created by power sanding,
sawing, grinding, drilling, and other construction activities
contains chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other
reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemicals are:
•lead from lead-based paints,
•crystalline silica from bricks and cement and other masonry
products, and
•arsenic and chromium from chemically-treated lumber.
Your risk of exposure to these chemicals varies depending on
how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure
to these chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area, and work
with approved safety equipment, such as dust masks that
are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.

the risk of personal injury and should never be done.
• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the saw chain
many contact hidden wiring. Saw chains contacting a “live” wire may make exposed
metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
• Wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Further protective equipment for head,
hands, legs and feet is recommended. Adequate protective clothing will reduce
personal injury by flying debris or accidental contact with the saw chain.
• Do not operate chainsaw while up in a tree. Operation of a chainsaw while up in a tree
may result in personal injury.
• Always keep proper footing and operate the chainsaw only when standing on a
fixed, secure and level surface. Slippery or unstable surfaces such as ladders may cause
loss of balance or control of the chainsaw.
• When cutting a limb that is under tension, be alert for spring back. When the tension
in the wood fibers is released, the spring-loaded limb may strike the operator and/or throw
the chainsaw out of control.
• Use extreme caution when cutting brush and saplings. The slender material may catch
the saw chain and be whipped toward you or pull you off balance.
• Carry the chainsaw by the front handle with the chainsaw switched off and away
from your body. When transporting or storing the chainsaw always fit the guide bar
cover. Proper handling of the chainsaw will reduce the likelihood of accidental contact with
the moving saw chain.
• Follow instructions for lubricating, chain tensioning and changing accessories.
Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain may either break or increase the chance for
kickback.
• Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Greasy, oily handles are
slippery, causing loss of control.
• Cut wood only. Do not use chainsaw for purposes not intended. For example: do not

use chainsaw for cutting plastic, masonry or non-wood building materials. Use of the
chainsaw for operations other than intended could result in a hazardous situation.
• Contact of the guide-bar tip with any object should be avoided.
• Tip contact may cause the guide bar to move suddenly upward and backward, which may
cause serious injury.
• Always use two hands when operating the chainsaw.
ADDITIONAL WARNINGS
The first-time user should, as a minimum practice, cut logs on a saw-horse or cradle.
It has been reported that vibrations from hand-held tools may contribute to a condition called
Reynaud’s Syndrome in certain individuals. Symptoms may include tingling, numbness
and blanching of the fingers, usually apparent upon exposure to cold. Hereditary factors,
exposure to cold and dampness, diet, smoking and work practices are all thought to contribute
to the development of these symptoms. It is presently unknown what, if any, vibrations or extent
of exposure may contribute to the condition. There are measures that can be taken by the
operator to possibly reduce the effects of vibration:
1. Keep your body warm in cold weather. When operating the unit wear gloves to keep the hands
and wrists warm. It is reported that cold weather is a major factor contributing to Raynaud’s
Syndrome.
2. After each period of operation, exercise to increase blood circulation.
3. Take frequent work breaks. Limit the amount of exposure per day.
If you experience any of the symptoms of this condition, immediately discontinue use and see
your physician about these symptoms.
1. The recommended cutting capacity of this chainsaw is 14” (35 cm) and smaller to prolong the
life of the tool and allow for safest operation. Cutting logs with a diameter larger than this will
cause excess wear on your tool. Logs with a maximum diameter of 14” (35 cm) can be cut, but
should only be done so rarely and with caution.
2. The integral spiked bumper is designed to assist cutting. When forced against the log while
cutting it provides a more stable pivot point.
3. Any chainsaw is potentially lethal if used inappropriately. It is strongly suggested that you seek
professional training in the safety and use of this tool.

Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of the guide bar touches an object, or when the
wood closes in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.
Tip contact in some cases may cause a sudden reverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up
and back towards the operator.
Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guide bar may push the guide bar rapidly back
towards the operator.
Either of these reactions may cause you to lose control of the saw which could result in
serious personal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into your saw. As
a chainsaw user, you should take several steps to keep your cutting jobs free from accident
or injury.
Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and
can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below:
1. Maintain a firm grip: thumbs and fingers encircling the chainsaw handles and both
hands on the saw. Position your body and arm allow you to resist kickback forces.
Kickback forces can be controlled by the operator if proper precautions are taken. Do not let
go of the chainsaw.
2. Do not overreach and do not cut above shoulder height. This helps prevent
unintended tip contact and enables better control of the chainsaw in unexpected situations.
3. Only use replacement bars and chains specified by the manufacturer. Incorrect
replacement bars and chains may cause chain breakage and/or kickback.
4. Follow the manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the saw
chain. Decreasing the depth gauge height can lead to increased kickback.

• Push and Pull — This reaction force is always opposite to the direction the chain is moving
where contact is made with the wood. Thus, the operator must be ready to control the PULL
when cutting on the bottom edge of the bar, and the PUSH when cutting along the top edge.

DOUBLE INSULATED
Double insulation is a concept in safety in electric power tools, which eliminates the need
for the usual three-wire grounded power cord. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the
internal metal motor components with protecting insulation. Double insulated tools do not
need to be grounded.
NOTE: Servicing of a product with double insulation requires extreme care and knowledge of
the system and should be performed only by a qualified service technician. For service, we
suggest you return the product to your nearest authorized service centre for repair. Always use
original factory replacement parts when servicing.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
This product has a precision-built electric motor. It should be connected to a power supply that
is 120 V, AC only (normal household current), 60 Hz. Do not operate this product on direct
current (DC). A substantial voltage drop will cause a loss of power and the motor will overheat.
If the product does not operate when plugged into an outlet, double-check the power supply.
EXTENSION CORDS (See Fig. 4)

When using a power tool at a considerable distance from a power source, be sure to use an
extension cord that has the capacity to handle the current the product will draw. An undersized
cord will cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in overheating and loss of power. Use the chart
to determine the minimum wire size required in an extension cord. Only round-jacketed cords
listed by Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) should be used.
When working outdoors with a product, use an extension cord that is designed for outside use.
This type of cord is designated with “W-A” or “W” on the cord’s jacket.

WARNING: The double insulated system is intended to
protect the user from shock resulting from a break in
the tool’s internal insulation. Observe all normal safety
precautions to avoid electrical shock.

Electrical Information
Before using any extension cord, inspect it for loose or exposed wires and cut or worn insulation.
A proper extension cord is available at an authorized service centre.
It is possible to tie the extension cord and power cord in a knot to prevent them from becoming
disconnected during use. Make the knot as shown in Fig. 4, then connect the plug end of the
power cord into the receptacle end of the extension cord. This method can also be used to tie
two extension cords together.
Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection should be provided on the circuit(s) or outlet(s)
to be used for the gardening appliance. Receptacles are available having built-in GFCI protection
and may be used for this measure of safety.

WARNING: Check extension cords before each use. If
damaged replace immediately. Never use the product with
a damaged cord since touching the damaged area could
cause electrical shock resulting in serious injury.

WARNING: Keep the extension cord clear of the working
area. Position the cord so that it will not get caught on
lumber, tools, or other obstructions while you are working
with a power tool. Failure to do so can result in serious
