2 Installation and Operations
Note: All the installations and operations here should conform to your local electric safety code.
2.1 Check Unpacked DVR
2.1.1 Open the box
When you receive the DVR from the shipping agency, please check whether there is any visible damage to the DVR appearance. The protective materials used for the package of the DVR can protect most accidental clashes during transportation. Then you can open the box to check the accessories. Please check the items in accordance with the list on the warranty card. Finally you can remove the protective film of the DVR.
2.1.2About the front panel and the rear panel
You can find detailed illustration about front panel and rear panel interfaces. Please check the model label on the rear panel according to your purchase contract carefully. The tag on the rear panel is very important. Please keep it well for future use. we usually need you to provide the serial number when you ask for our service after sales.
2.1.3Check after opening the front cover
Besides checking apparent damages, please check whether there is any loose connection between the front panel’s data ribbon, power cable, the cooling fan’s power line and the main board.
2.2 Installation Precaution
Please make sure the DVR is properly earthed.
2.2.1 Install HDDs
For the first the installation, please make sure the HDDs are properly installed and right jumped.
2.2.2 How to choose HDDs
We usually recommend Seagate HDD of 7200rpm or higher.
2.2.3 How to choose HDD size
HDD capacity
This series have no limit to HDD capacity. Please use 120G-500G HDD to guarantee higher stability.
How to calculate the total capacity of HDDs
The formula of total HDD size is: Total Capacity (MB) = Camera Amount * Recording Hours * HDD Usage Per Hour (M/h) So we can get the formula of recording hours:
Recording Hours= Total Capacity (MB)
Camera Amount*HDD Usage Per Hour (M/h) We use H.264 compression algorithm. This algorithm is ideal for standalone DVRs. When you calculate the total HD capacity, you should estimate the average HDD capacity per hour for each channel.
For example
12
For a 4-ch DVR, the average capacity of HDD usage per hour per channel is 200M/h. Now if you hope the DVR can record the video 12 hours each day for 30 days, the total capacity of HDDs needed is: 4 channels * 30 days * 12 hours * 200 M/h = 288G. So you need to install one 300G HDD or 2 160G HDDs.
2.2.3.1 HDD installation
Data ribbons, fastening screws and smart HDD shelf design are already provided in the accessories to make your installation easier. Notes: please pay attention to HDD jumper wire: If you just need to install one HDD, you can set the HDD to MASTER. If you install two HDDs to one IDE port, you need to set the farther one as MASTER and the other as SLAVE. Please don’t set HDD as CS Enable or Cap Limit. After HDD installation, please check connection of data ribbon and power cord, then mount the front cover.
2.2.4 About CD Burner
For built-in burner, you can dismantle front plate to install CD burner. This built-in burner is set as MASTER.
For USB burners, you need to install USB series burner. For future convenient use, you can connect burners with rear panel USB port and leave front panel USB port for mouse. This series DVR is compatible with various burner brands popular in today’s market. You
can consult our local technical support or visit our website for more information.
2.2.5 External Power Supply Connection
Please check input voltage and device power button do match or not. We recommend you use UPS to guarantee steady operation, DVR life span, and other peripheral equipments operation such as cameras.
2.2.6 Install DVR in the Machine Cabinet
Install the cabinet in ventilated place. Avoid extreme heat, humid or dusty conditions. You can clean opening outlet, cooling fan etc. with a soft dry brush regularly.
2.3 Video and Audio Connection
2.3.1 Video Input Connection
The video input interface is BNC. It supports two input signals: PAL/NTSC BNC
P- P
75.
1.0V The video signal should comply with your local national standards of high SNR, low distortion; low interference, natural color and suitable lightness.
Guarantee camera signal stability and reliability
The camera should be installed in a suitable place. Do not install in backlighting, low illumination environment. Please use the camera of backlighting compensation function and low illumination. The power supply of the camera should have the same grounding with that of the DVR to ensure the normal operation of the camera.
Guarantee transmission cable stability and reliability
Use high quality, good shielded BNC and choose suitable BNC model according to your transmission distance. When the distance is too long, you should use twisted pair, adding video compensation devices or use optical fiber to ensure video quality. You should keep the video signal away from the strong electromagnetic interference, especially the high tension current.
13
Keep connection lugs in well condition
The signal line and shielded wire should be firm and in well connection. Avoid dry joint, lap welding and oxidation.
2.3.2 Audio Input
These series DVR uses BNC port. Due to high impedance of audio input, you need to use active acoustic pickup. Audio transmission is similar to video transmission. Try to avoid interference, dry joint,
loose contact or entry of high tension current. System default opens channel 1 and channel 2 audio function and it does not allow you to modify, you can set channel 3 and channel 4 audio settings. (Please note some series DVR do not have audio input function)
2.3.3 How to choose and connect video output device
Video output ways includes a output
.
BNC(PAL/NTSC BNC1.0VP- P75)output and a VGA
We recommend you use the industrial monitor as your video output device. The industrial monitor has the following advantages:
It is suitable for industrially long-time monitor. Ordinary civilian device is easy to
become aging, damaged or even burn down after long-time operation.
Has higher definition and color recover ability that the civilian device is incomparable.
Strong stability and anti-interference ability, suitable for various complicated
surrounding.
When you use pc-type monitor to replace the industrial monitor, Please note:
To defer aging, do not open for a long time
Regular demagnetization will facilitate the monitor to work in normal state.
Keep away from strong electromagnetic interference devices.
Using TV as video output device is not a reliable substitution method. You need to reduce the hours of use and control the interference from power supply or other devices. The hidden short circuit problem of low quality TV may result in damage to other devices.
2.3.3 Audio Output
This DVR audio parameter is 200mvp-p 1K(BNC or RCA),. It can connect directly with low impedance earphone, active pickup or amplifier-drive to enable other audio output devices. If there is no sufficient room between sound box and the pickup, it is easily to create feedback. In this case you can adopt the following measures:
Use pickup with better directionality.
Adjust sound box volume
Using more sound-absorbing materials in decoration to reduce voice echo and
improve acoustics environment. Adjust the device layout to reduce the feedback. (Please note some series DVRs do not have audio input function)
2.4 Alarm Input and Output Device Connection
Before connection, please pay attention to the following points:
2.4.1 Alarm Input
Check your alarm input modes: grounding alarm input or voltage alarm input.
14
Alarm input: for D1/HD1series, 5~15v is needed for voltage alarm input. For CIF
series, grounding signal is needed for alarm input.
If you need to connect two DVRs or one DVR and other device, please use relay
to separate them.
2.4.2 Alarm Output
Do not connect alarm output port directly with high power load (no more than 1 A) in case of heavy current which will destroy the relay. You can use the co-contactor to realize the connection between the alarm output port and the load.
2.4.3 How to Connect PTZ Decoder
Ensure the decoder has the same grounding with DVR; otherwise possible
common mode voltage may fail to control the PTZ. Shielded twisted wire is recommended and the shielded layer is used to connect to the grounding.
Avoid the entry of high voltage. Ensure proper wiring and some thunder
protection measures
For long signal wires, 120should be parallel connected between A, B lines
on the far end to reduce reflection and guarantee the signal quality.
“485 A, B” of DVR cannot parallel connect with “485 port” of other device.
The voltage between A,B lines of the decoder should be less than 5v.
2.4.4 About Grounding
Poor grounding of the front-end devices may cause damage to chips.
There are two alarm input types: normal open or normal close.

2.5 Record Modes Selection and Configuration
This series DVR can provide multiple recording modes. You can select and configure as you needed. To get the best balance between the recording time and HDD space used, please pay attention to the following points:
The motion detection recording period or alarm recording period can not overlap
with the schedule recording period.
Under poor illumination, avoid using motion detection recording. Use more stable
alarm recording and enable light activation function to ensure the recording quality and rational use of HDD.
The sensitivity of motion detection should be adjusted according to your on-spot
environment test to prevent false report or report failure occurring.
2.6 Network Connection
DVR provides a standard RJ45 port and embedded TCP/IP protocol suitable for you to connect within LAN or Internet. During constructing a LAN, please use switch instead of HUB to guarantee adequate bandwidth and avoid excessive cable layout.
