Xtant Technologies XIS Owners manual

Xtant Integrated Separates
The Xtant Integrated Separates are designed to easily work in factory locations as well as custom mounts and pods. The concentrically mounted drivers have excellent on or off axis response allowing the user to explore multiple mounting positions while obtaining the desired acoustic response. The XIS drivers afford the listener the ability to customize the system to their own listening taste by simply choosing a dispersion module for the tweeter. Please refer to the explanations below when optimizing the system.
Dispersion Module Option
The Xtant Integrated Separates offer two dispersion modules for flexibility in mounting position. The smaller module allows for a wider dispersion of sound where as the larger option narrows the dispersion field thereby giving a more direct sound pattern. In many applications, we have found with door mounted locations, a wider dispersion pattern works well. In contrast, a narrower dispersion pattern works well in direct radiating situations. Both options are provided to meet your listening needs. Please refer to the diagram on the back when changing the dispersion module.
Speaker Protection
Speaker grills are provided for use in protecting the driver when the Integrated Separates are mounted somewhere other than the existing factory location.
Mounting the Driver
The most important factor in achieving good acoustic response is properly mounting the driver. Be sure that the speaker is mounted to a solid baffle in order to isolate the front sound wave from the back sound wave. This can be achieved by creating a solid, airtight seal between the speaker and its mount.
Wiring
It is important to use good quality speaker wire when installing speakers. Additionally, a tight connection is very important in speaker installations. A loose connection can cause a speaker to cut in and out or become distorted and harsh.
Bi-Amp Capability
If you wish to drive the woofer and tweeter with separate amplifiers (bi-amp), you must bypass the built on crossover. To do this, remove the wires connecting the (-) woofer terminal to the (-) tweeter terminal, and remove the capacitor between the (+) woofer terminal and the (+) tweeter terminal. The end result will be separate connections for woofer and tweeter. You must send a signal that is crossed over directly to the woofer and tweeter connections on the driver. If you’re using an Xtant amplifier either the on board crossover or a crossover module will provide this signal. Be sure to refer to the frequency response for the specific driver when choosing your crossover points.
