Printing
STARR Compression
The Compression efficiency is dependent on file type and complexity. Artifacts may be possible when
compression is selected depending on the file complexity.
STARR Compression must be selected to support the advanced features in Fiery Options; i.e., collation, reverse
order, etc.
Print Speed / System Performance
The maximum print speed for the X2 system is limited by the print speed of the 5765, 5790 and DocuColor 5750/
5799.
The 5765, 5790 and DocuColor 5750/ 5799 are document printers; therefore the print engine will not cycle up until
the entire job is ready. This will impact First Copy Out Time (FCOT) when STARR Compression is in use. The copier may cycle down between each job depending on job complexity.
Overall system performance (‘Click to Clunk’ time) is primarily dependent upon the software applications and
network environment being used. Rasterizing (RIP-ing) is only a small fraction of Click to Clunk time.
Printing with custom software applications may produce unexpected or unknown results.

Maximum Image Sizes
The maximum image size from an application is limited to the image size produced by the 5765, 5790 and
DocuColor 5750/ 5799. The application and the 5765, 5790, DocuColor 5750/ 5799 setup controls image position.

No driver support for DOS applications
Features
ColorWise: Enables the X2 to independently adjust and correct any combination of RGB, CMYK, and Spot Color data supplied to the X2 controller to provide accurate color rendition when printing with the 5765, 5790 and DocuColor 5750/ 5799.
NetWise: This architecture supports Appletalk, TCP/IP (Ethernet/Token Ring), Native Novell 4.0 (NDS), Novell 3.x (bindery), 10/100BaseT standard support, and Native Win 95 printing concurrently. Additionally, this architecture allows the X2 to bind multiple frame types and protocols to the Ethernet or optional Token Ring card for auto switching and detection.
PostScript 3: The Fiery X2 is a true Adobe PostScript 3 controller.
Upgrade Strategy
Currently there are no plans for upgrading.

Utilities
Downloader
Uses IPX or TCP/IP for Win 95 and Win NT 4.0.
Supports Win 95 and Win NT only.
The Downloader utility on Mac requires AppleTalk.
Spooler
WebSpooler only
WebTools
Java capable browser platforms only
Currently, the only fully enabled Java browsers are Win 95, Win NT, and UNIX.
Mac platforms and Win 3.11 may not fully support WebTools.
Calibration
AutoCal2 is the primary calibration method.
An optional X-Rite DTP32 Densitometer is available with the X2 server to enable the printer calibration feature.
Currently the X-Rite DTP32 is the only densitometer approved for the Fiery X2.
Color monitor calibration is the responsibility of the customer.
Optimal print quality is achieved by using a densitometer. For RGB emitting applications (PowerPoint, Word, and
Excel), use the 5765, 5790 and DocuColor 5750/ 5799 calibration target. For CMYK applications (Quark, Pagemaker) use the SWOP target.
Print Quality and Color Management
The appearance of the document displayed on the monitor screen may not match the output print because the
monitor uses RGB color space parameters.
For imported RGB images, optimal color is achieved in the EPS format. Other imported file formats may produce
unexpected results.
Separations Support
For the PC, only QuarkXPress & Pagemaker can be used for separations.
For the Mac, only QuarkXPress or Pagemaker version 6.0 can be used for separations.
Scanning
The copier does support the Scan Back feature using a TWAIN plug-in.
Fiery AutoCal2 calibration is available at the Fiery X2.
Supported Paper Sizes
The following paper sizes are supported by the Fiery X2:
Letter and SEF Letter Legal and Legal 13
8 x 10 • 11 x 17
9 x 12 • A3
A4, SEF A4 B4
