QUICK OVERVIEW
Installing test modules in the XenaBay C4-12 chassis requires the following steps to be completed.
NOTE: A slightly different procedure is needed for the M6SFP+, M6RJ45+/n and +25GE modules – see the
end of the document for instructions.
1. Remove the top cover by unscrewing the two bolts at the back of the chassis.
2. Unscrew the restraining bars that holds the module in place
3. Choose which slot the module should sit in and unscrew the bracket
4. Slide the module into place and use the screw to secure it*
5. Position the restraining bars in place.
6. Screw the restraining bars tightly in place.
For M6SFP+ and CFP cards - connect the power cable (see final section in this document)
* In August 2017 Xena improved the way test modules were mounted in the chassis by adding a plastic rail
attached with two screws to the test module. This rail ensures the test module is held very securely in place
when mounted in the chassis.
When transferring test modules with this plastic rail from a XenaBay purchased after August 2017 to an older
XenaBay, it is necessary to remove the plastic rail. This simply requires removing two screws.
7. Replace the top cover
The installation steps outlined above are described in detail below. Please refer to the relevant section.
IMPORTANT: ALWAYS REMOVE LONG TEST MODULES BEFORE SHIPPING
To minimize the risk of dam age, please rem ove “long” test modules bef ore transport ation. This inc ludes an y
test module(s) that extend past the metal restraining bar under the chassis lid.
Always use the original Xena boxes for shipping (including the polystyrene foam and anti-static bags).

STEP 1:
Remove the top cover by unscrewing the two bolts at the back of the chassis.
STEP 2:
Unscrew the fan bar and support bar that holds the modules in place.
The metal support bar holds test modules securely in place. This is very important during transport.
It is also used to mount the fans that cool the chassis. These are attached to the chassis by four screws

If necessary, disconnect the plug that powers the fans.

STEP 3:
Choose which slot the module should sit in and unscre w the cover.
The cover at the front of the slot needs to be remove d before you can sl ide the new test m odule into place .
You only need to remove one screw which you then (re)use in the next step.
Please note that the tri-speed 100G test module (M1CFP100) requires two slots, as does M2CFP40.

STEP 4:
Press the test module firm ly but caref ully into place – do not force it – an d then fasten a gain with the s crew
from Step 3.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
In August 2017 Xena im proved the way test m odules were mounted in the chassis by adding a plas tic rail
attached with two scr ews t o the test m odul e. T his r ail ens ures t he tes t m odule is held ver y securel y in plac e
when mounted in the chassis.
If these new-generation test modules subsequently need to be installed in older versions of the XenaBay
chassis (those shipped before mid- 2017), the plastic rail needs to be unscrewed and removed. There are 3
versions of the rails but all are mounted on the “top” of the test modules (as shown below).

STEP 5:
Now the restraining f anbar and s upport bar needs t o be reatt ached. B oth support bars are essential as they
hold the installed modules firmly in place. If adjus tments are necessar y, we rec om mend doing it from right to
left (Port 11 to Port 0).
STEP 6:
Once you are satisfied with the positioning of both support bars, screw the Four lock screws firmly in place. (It
can require a little juggling to ensure a proper fit.)
STEP 7:
Replace the top cover, by sliding it back into place and tightening the 2 screws at the back.

Change BIOS Battery
It can be necessary to replace the BIOS battery. This is a simple operation that involves opening the lid of the
chassis and finding the blue battery mounted on the motherboard on the right side of the chassis.
Simply detach it from the motherboard and you can easily replace the watch or button cell battery.

Attaching the Power Cables
There are small differences depending on which test modules you are installing in the Xena Bay.
You need to attach the power cables for some of the modules e.g. Xena’s “tri-speed” 10/401/100G test
module (M1CFP100) and the M2CFP40 require 2 slots in the chassis and have a larger power socket.
The 6-port 10G test module (M6SFP+) has a power sock et that is half the size of the M1CFP100 and it
attaches to the test module, using a ‘2-to-1’ adapter as shown belo w.

First clip away the black plastic strip holding the power plug and cable in place.
Then connect it to the large plug on the test module:
