Please review this manual before operating your WOO AUDIO™ product.

Important Safety Information

CAUTION: These amplifiers are shipped without the vacuum

tubes installed. It is necessary to install the tubes first. The tubes must be installed correctly or serious damage that is not covered

by the warranty will result.

Turn off immediately in the event of malfunction

Should you notice smoke or an unusual smell coming from the equipments, turn it off immediately. Continued operation could result in injury.

Do not disassemble

High voltage circuit. Touching the product’s internal parts could result in injury. In the event of malfunction, the product should be repaired only by a qualified technician.

Overview

Thank you for choosing a Woo Audio product. The WEE is an electrostatic headphone

converter for dynamic speaker amp. It converts speaker amp output to be usable for

electrostatic headphones. If you already have a speaker amp setup, the WEE is probably

the most economical solution to start enjoying electrostatic headphones. The WEE is

highly efficient - a 3-watt speaker amplifier is able to drive any Stax headphones

effortlessly. To connect this setup, basically, you will need a speaker amp, a WEE, and

an electrostatic headphone such as the Stax.

What’s in the box?

One WEE unit.

 Power cord, interconnection, speaker cables are not included.

Selecting AC voltage:

WARNING: failure to select the correct voltage will result in damage of the amp.

Switch to label “115” for AC100 to 125V voltage.

Switch to label “230” for AC210 to 240V voltage.

Installing the power cord:

Plug the power cord into the AC inlet. The AC inlet socket is a standard IEC type. You will need to obtain the correct type for your region.

Installing the source inputs and outputs:

NOTE: A minimum of 3 watts of power amp inputs are recommended or

you will experience sound distortion.

The inputs and outputs are a 5-way speaker binding post.

The following types of connectors are supported in the WEE.

Pin connectors are easier to work with than bare wire, and they fit securely in spring clips or binding posts.

Banana plugs are a popular choice — they simply plug into the middle of a binding post, giving you a solid connection.

Spade connectors offer a good connection and fit in behind the red or black collar of most binding posts.

Operation

DO NOT

switch to the speaker output (“SPK”) when there are no speakers connected to the WEE. Failure to do so could damage your speaker amplifier.

Stax headphones and speakers switching:

• The “SPK” position is for Speakers output.

• The “STAX” position is for Stax headphones output. The LED light on the

switching knob will lite when this position is selected.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What headphones are supported?

The WEE is designed to work with 5-pin PRO bias Stax headphones. We can custom make the unit to accept a 6-pin NORMAL bias headphone.

How do I adjust volume?

It is controlled through your speaker amp that is connected to the WEE.

How good is the WEE compared to a dedicated electrostatic amp?

The WEE is a converter and not an amp. The sound quality depends on your speaker amp. For the best result, a dedicated amp is recommended.

There is hum/noise coming out of the headphones?

Check your speaker power amp. The WEE does not produce any noise. The noise can come from the speaker amp only.

The headphones have distortion.

Be advised that you will need a minimum 3 watts of power input to properly power a Stax headphone.

Is there a maximum power input limit?

There is no upper limit. If you have a high power amp, you should be careful with your power amp’s volume control.

The LED does not light.

Check if the fuse is burnt. See the following on how to replace a fuse. You will need a 2 or 2A, slo-bloa type.

Insert a small flat screwdriver into the fuse door which located on the AC inlet.

Release the fuse door by pulling it out.



Warranty and Service

Woo Audio warrants this product free from defects in materials and workmanship for 1

year from the original date of purchase. The tubes are warranted for 30 days unless

otherwise stated. In the event that your Woo Audio product requires servicing, please

contact us directly to get a return instruction. If the equipment needs to be shipped back,

please use the original packaging and include a copy of the sales purchase along with a

detailed explanation of the problem(s).

If you do not care, or your budget does not allow you, to have a dedicated electrostatic

amp AND you have a good stereo amplifier or monoblocs I see no reason not to

seriously consider the WEE. It delivers!
