Step 1: Mount tripod
Tip: Prefer a dierent mounting system? The mounting socket ts standard 35mm camera tripods, video camera wall mounts, or other mounting hardware using a 1/4-20 thread.
8
Step 2: Connect
• Turn o all of your equipment.
• Remove the antenna on your compatible wireless router, access point,
repeater, WiFi USB adapter, game adapter, camera, or other wireless device.
• Replace with the Super Cantenna cable, using the included RPTNC
adapter if necessary. (Laptop users, see page 9)
• Turn your equipment back on.
Step 3: Locate and Aim
The Super Cantenna is a directional, line-of-sight antenna. The wireless signal exits and enters the cap end of the Super Cantenna. It extends in a narrow, 30 degree beam, to and from your target base station or access point. Trees, metal buildings, drywall, power lines, and other objects may block your wireless signal and make the Super Cantenna less eective. For best results, locate and aim the Super Cantenna where you have a clear line-of-sight to the target.
That’s it! If your wireless device does not connect, consult the wireless device instruction manual on how to congure a connection.
Tip: RF cables are delicate electrical devices. Avoid twisting or kinking the cable and use care when connecting/disconnecting.

Fine-tuning the Super Cantenna
Now that you are all set up, make sure to get the most out of your new Super Cantenna with a bit of ne-tuning. Because the Super Cantenna has linear polarization, you may nd that you get a better signal by rotating the tripod to its side. Then you can tilt the tripod’s mounting plate and rotate the Super Cantenna along its cylindrical axis.
Tip: You should also experiment by aiming the Super Cantenna slightly to the left, right, or above your target.
Tip: Download the free NetStumbler software from www.netstumbler.com for precise ne-tuning of your signal!

Symptoms: Solution:
Cantenna cable doesn’t t wireless device
Try the supplied RPTNC adapter; make sure your device has a removable antenna or external antenna port (for a list of compatible devices, check www.cantenna.com).
Weak wireless signal or signal goes in and out
Position the Super Cantenna in a clear line-of-sight, away from obstructions like metal, concrete, trees, etc. ; keep it away from microwave ovens and cordless phones; try rotating it on its axis (see page 8).
Can’t connect cable to laptop with built-in WiFi
You will need either a PCMCIA card with an external antenna port* or WiFi USB adapter with removable antenna. See www.cantenna.com/laptop.html for more information. (*requires Laptop Adapter Cable)
Signal seems to be stronger when slightly pointed to the left or right of target network
This is perfectly normal. You can even try pointing the Super Cantenna slightly higher or lower than the target network.
Computer’s built-in WiFi software does not show accurate signal strength
Download the free NetStumbler software from www.netstumbler.com (Macs: www.macstumbler.com). This software is invaluable for nding and ne-tuning networks.
Can’t connect to network even though signal strength is sucient
Make sure you have permission to use the network. Ask the network’s administrator for access privileges/ password.
