Setting up the System for Use
Selecting a Site
Select a site that has:
• a sturdy and level surface
• space for ventilation
• a grounded three-pronged electrical outlet nearby
• available modem or network cable connection (for connecting to Internet)
• available TVRF cable connection (for watching TV)
Caution:Slots or openings on the system are for ventilation.Do not block or cover the ventilation openings.
Making Connections
The wireless keyboard and mouse communicate with the FusionPC through aRF (radio frequency) transceiver that is plugged into one of the available USBports. Each wireless component must be operated on its own frequency in orderto avoid RF interference (component failure due to competing signals on thesame channel). The transceiver supplied with the FusionPC supports two distinctchannels that are user selectable via switches located on front of the transceiver. The factory defaults for FusionPC wireless input devices are set to channel 1 forthe keyboard and channel 2 for the mouse.
Note:The keyboard and mouse must be operated on separate channels toensure proper functionality. If both devices are set to the same channel you mayexperience abnormal device behavior.

Selecting the RF channel on the keyboard
The channel switch is located on the bottom of the keyboard just below the battery compartment. To access the switch, flip the keyboard over and locate the switch near the battery compartment.Channel 1 is enabled if the switch is moved to the left position and channel 2 is enabled if the switch is moved to the right.

Troubleshooting FusionPC wireless input devices
If you find that one or both of the wireless devices are not operating correctlythen try the following actions:
• Ensure that the wireless device channel setting matches the transceiver setting.
• Replace (keyboard) or recharge (mouse) the batteries to ensure sufficientcharge to the device.
• Make sure that each device is on its own channel.
• Use the ID Connect button on the transceiver to "lock down" communicationbetween the device and the transceiver.
Note:The ID Connect feature allows for multiple connections of FusionPC wire-less devices within the same channel. For example; two FusionPC computerswithin a 10 foot radius of each other, set up in the factory default positions. (i.e.both keyboards on channel 1 and both mice on channel 2)
Using the ID Connect feature
In the default configuration, two FusionPC computers next to each other wouldexperience RF interference (abnormal wireless device functionality).Using themouse or keyboard of FusionPC #1 would result in the operation of FusionPC#2 and vice versa. In this scenario it is necessary to "lock down" specific fre-quencies between each FusionPC and its accompanying wireless devices inorder to prevent crosstalk failures.

Using the Mouse
Awireless USB optical mouse is supplied with your system. The mouse is apointing device that allows you to communicate with the computer by control-ling the location of the pointer on the screen and making selections with the buttons.
Touse the mouse, slide it on a clean, flat surface (such as your desktop) andthe pointer on the screen moves accordingly.
An optical mouse uses optical sensor technology. When compared with a traditional trackball mouse, it is more precise and durable.
Note:An optical mouse works on most surfaces without a mouse pad. However, you should avoid the following surfaces:surfaces without texture (such as glass),reflective surfaces (such as a mirror) and surfaces with irregular texture (such as color pictures or magazines).

Using the Floppy Disk Drive (optional)
Caution:
• Do not use the floppy disk drive in an upside-down position.
• Do not put objects on top of the floppy disk drive.
Afloppy disk drive allows you to install new programs into your computer, or to store information on a removable floppy disk so that you can transferinformation from one computer to another.
The USB floppy drive is a high-density 3.5-inch device which can read andwrite to either double-density (2DD) 720-KB floppy disks or high-density(2HD) 1.44-MB floppy disks.Afloppy disk has an arrow imprinted on the front upper left corner and a sliding write-protect tab on the bottom left corneras illustrated above. When opened, the write-protect tab prevents data frombeing written to or erased from the floppy disk.

Using the Hard Disk Drive
Your system comes with a hard disk drive configured as drive letter C:.
Ahard disk drive is a storage device with non-removable, rotating, magneticstorage platters inside it.It is where your operating system and application software programs are stored.
Your hard disk drive is a 3.5-inch IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) hard diskdrive. This type of drive embodies the latest in fast, reliable mass storage byintegrating all the control circuitry necessary for operation directly onto thedrive itself. This allows the drive manufacturer to optimize drive performance.
Caution:
• Make regular backups of your data files from your hard disk drive to floppydisks or other storage media. This can prevent losing data because of a computer virus or an accident.
• Never try to remove or install the hard disk drive while the system is poweredon. Doing so can result in loss of data, and can damage the system and thehard disk drive’s sensitive circuitry.
• Never turn off or reset the computer while the hard disk drive in-use indicator is on.
Using the Optical Drive
Your system comes with a optical drive, usually configured as drive letter D:.
An optical drive is an ideal medium to use for distributing multimedia becauseof the huge amount of data that a disc can store.
Depending on the model, your drive is one of the following:
• CD-ROM drivecan read CD-ROMs, audio CDs, video CDs, CD-R, and CD-RWdiscs.
• CD-RWdrivecan not only read the above discs but also write to CD-R and CD-RWdiscs.
• DVD-ROM drivecan read DVD (Digital Versatile Disc) in addition to theabove discs.
• Combo drivecan work both as a DVD-ROM drive and CD-RWdrive.
• DVD-R/DVD-RWdrivecan work as all of the drives listed above as well as having the ability to write data that conforms to DVD standards.

This manual was written to complement the Help and Support Center. While themanual doesn’t directly answer many of the questions or concepts explained ineach chapter, the manual does refer the reader to the Help and Support Center inorder to bring up the correct resource.
System Restore
One of the powerful utilities within the Help and Support Center is the SystemRestore utility. With this utility, you can recover from fatal errors that are thedirect result of failed hardware or software installations.Your operating systemautomatically sets restore points whenever you install a new piece of softwareor add a new hardware device. If you find yourself in a situation in which yourcomputer is malfunctioning after you have recently installed something, runningSystem Restore from the Help and Support Center will allow you to revert backto a point before the installation occurred, thus protecting your valuable data and the integrity of your system.
Why Use the Help and Support Center?
• Most likely the answer to your question can already be answered within the
Help and Support Center.
• The Help and Support Center gives you the user, the power to solve your own
problem or answer your own question without having to rely on the traditionalmethods of support.(i.e.technical support phone call, surfing the internet foranswers)

Chapter 6Expanding Your System
You can expand the capabilities of your system by connecting external peripher-al devices. When using a device, be sure to read the instructions accompanyingthe device along with the relevant section in this chapter.
This chapter gives guidelines on installing and using these devices:
Your system has four USB ports for connecting USB devices such as a keyboard, mouse, printer, modem, scanner or digital camera.
USB (Universal Serial Bus) supports “Plug and Play” technology so you can install and remove USB devices without turning off the system. With itsmultiple connection capability, up to 127 devices can be connected in a daisy-chain configuration. In addition, you can use a USB hub that converts a singleUSB connector into multiple ports where USB devices can be connected.
Your USB ports support these two standards:
• USB v.2.0 with transfer rates up to 480MB/s
• USB v.1.1 with transfer rates up to 12MB/s
Toconnect a USB device, simply plug the device cable into one of the USBports.
