Introduction
1.1 The MicroGB 800 is a slim, compact and outstanding looking IDE to USB 2.0 & FireWire 800 (1394b) external hard drive enclosure.
The case is made of aluminum and as one of the smallest enclosures available, a
2.5” hard drive with a thickness of 9.5mm fits exactly. Being small enough to fit in your pocket makes it very convenient for carrying your data while on the go.
1.2 System Requirement
a. Hardware: PC or MAC with USB or FireWire interface b. Compatible Operating Systems (OS) types:
Windows 98SE*, Windows ME Windows 2000, Windows XP Mac OS 9.1 and later

Remove the screws then the rear bezel and pull out the bridge board

3.3 Hard Disk & Bridge Board Assembly
Install the hard drive and fasten it with the 4 screws on to the bridge board

Note: Jumper settings for hard drive set it to “Master”!
3.4 Rear Bezel & Bridge Board Installation
Slide the board back into the enclosure, put the rear bezel in place and fasten the screws.

3.3 System Set Up
The MicroGB 800 can be used with bus power (FireWire interface only), although some hard
drives or computers might require the power adapter, depending on what model is being used.
Please note, only one interface at the time can be used. FireWire can be daisy chained.
Chapter 4
Installation Procedure
4.1 Installation on Windows ME / 2000 / XP (USB 2.0)
Turn on your computer and start Windows  Connect the MicroGB 800 and turn it on  No separate driver required, let Windows search and install it automatically  Open “My Computer”, where you can see the external hard drive
4.2 Installation on Macintosh (USB 2.0 High Speed only on Mac OSX)
Turn on your computer and start Mac OS  Connect the MicroGB 800 and turn it on  No separate driver required (except if used under OS 8.6, where the USB support has to be at least
version 1.41 and the FireWire version 2.6)
The external hard drive will show up on the desktop

Unplug Procedure
5.1 Windows ME / 2000 / XP
a. Single click (right mouse button) on the taskbar icon (see Figure 3) b. Click on popup message (see Figure 4)

c. Click “OK” and remove the device
5.2 Mac OS
Drag the icon to the trash bin and remove the device (see Figure 6)

Attention!!
To assure no accidental data loss always follow the “unplug procedure” outlined in the section above.
Incorrectly unplugging your device may result in lost data, and the system will display the following warning messages:
For Windows ME
USB 2.0 1394b
For Windows 2000
USB 2.0 1394b
For Mac
USB 2.0 1394b

Partitioning & Formatting
Please be aware that this will destroy all your existing data on the hard drive, so make sure you have a backup! This step is usually only required the first time you install the hard drive or if you have a factory new hard drive.
6.1 Windows 98SE, Windows ME
DOS command “fdisk”
Type “fdisk” and press Enter Select ”Y”
Enter "5” to change the disk Select the drive you want to format
Choose “1” and follow the instructions
6.2 Windows 2000, Windows XP

6.3 Mac OS
Mac version OS9.2 (and earlier) does not support creating partitions on an external hard drive. To do that
you would need to purchase additional software. Initializing is no problem on all Operating Systems. For
OSX use the Disk Utility to format and create partitions on your external hard drive.
Select ”Disk Utility “ in the utilities folder

Technical Information
7.1 Features and Advantage of the MicroGB 800 Super 800
Over Voltage Protection (OVP) with a limit of 10% before shut down (max 30V). Protection for
device or hard drive damage, caused by sudden voltage spikes in the power supply and wrong or faulty power adapter. Indication: blue LED off, red LED on
Low Voltage Detection (LVD) indicating insufficient power supply. Possible case, low bus power,
sudden voltage slump in the power supply or faulty power adapter. Indication: blue LED on, red LED on
Connector Polarity Protection to prevent any damage to the device or hard drive caused by
using a wrong adapter or PS2 cable (correct: internal+, external-).
Automatic Detection of the Interface used, which means that there is no mechanical switch
required. The first cable detached will be the one used by the system until unplugged. If a second cable is plugged in, it will not affect the system at all and can be used as soon as the main cable is unplugged.
Bus Power supported for 2.5” devices (FireWire only), although it still depends on the
complete environment (type and size of hard drive, computer and length of cable) if the hard drive can be used with bus power only or not.
7.2 Troubleshooting
A special feature are the LED indicators, please consult the following table for details.

For compatibility issues and further trouble shooting, please contact your vendor and explain your problem including details such as OS (Operating System), hard drive (make and model), computer system (make and model) and any other details that you think may assist the technical support staff to trouble-shoot your problem.
Before you contact technical support you may consider testing your device on a different OS or Computer first.
