INTRODUCTION TO SMART APPLIANCES
REFRIGERATOR
Let’s learn about your Smart Refrigerator. Your refrigerator is special: it’s connected. Not popular exactly,
but downright friendly with the internet, your smartphone, computer and tablet. Plus, it’s not just energy ecient; it
thinks about its eciency, gets even smarter about saving you money and resources over time, and helps you do a
little more each day by saving you valuable minutes and even more valuable eort. Now isn’t that smart?
HERE’S HOW:
IT HAS SMART FEATURES
Smart Features help make your everyday life more ecient by letting you
remotely monitor, manage, and maintain your refrigerator.
POWEROUT ALERT AND POWERON NUDGE
What it does: Sends you a text, e-mail, or in-app alert if your refrigerator
loses power for more than 30 minutes or your freezer temperature rises
above 18˚F (-8°C)—and again when the power’s back on.
What it does for you: Saves you some worry about spoiled food
and melty messes by letting you know you should check on
your appliance.
DOOR OPEN NUDGE
What it does: Tells you if your refrigerator or freezer door has been
open for more than 5 minutes.
What it does for you: Saves you energy, money, and the heartache of
discovering the ice cream has gone runny.
ISSUE ALERT
What it does: Sends you a text, e-mail, or in-app alert if something’s
gone wrong.
What it does for you: Gives you a heads-up and helps you request
service quickly by giving you all the info you need to connect with our
service center.
VACATION ASSISTANT
What it does: Turns on your refrigerator’s energy-saving Vacation Mode
feature from afar.
What it does for you: Makes that pre-vacation dummy check go a little
smoother. Setting your refrigerator to low-energy mode when it won’t be
opened for a while saves money and energy, and now you can do it from
50 miles down the road.
TEMP SET ASSISTANT
What it does: Remotely sets your refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
What it does for you: Helps you be the life of the party a little in
advance by (for example) letting you set your refrigerator temperature
down to quick-chill beverages before guests arrive.
FILTER ASSISTANT
What it does: Notifies you that your refrigerator’s water filter needs
changing.
What it does for you: Warns you that your water could soon be less
than fresh so that you can take action!
IT WORKS WITH THE SMART GRID
Push one button, and your Smart Refrigerator does a whole lot:
saves you money, saves energy, and helps you put less stress on
the grid by keeping an eye on energy rates and demand as issued
by your utility company. When either is high, your appliance will
go into Smart Delay and wait for prices or demand to fall before
running high-energy features.
Don’t worry; you can override the Smart Grid setting by pressing
the Smart Grid button on the dispenser control panel. Energy
monitoring will go dormant for 4 hours, and you won’t see the
Smart Grid and Delay Ice icons on the refrigerator dispenser’s
display screen. Change your mind? Just press the Smart Grid
button again to allow your refrigerator to respond to energy rates.
SMART DELAY
What it does: Stops energy-hungry features such as the defrost
cycle from running when energy rates or demand are highest.
What it does for you: Helps you give a little back to the
environment—and to yourself, in the form of a lower energy bill.
ENERGY ADVISOR
What it does: Displays your refrigerator’s power usage at any
specific time and tracks its energy usage over time.
What it does for you: Gives you a chance to monitor, manage,
and control your energy consumption.
