Using your microwave oven

Microwave
There are four parts in the control section:
-The Dlgltal Display/Clock and Indicator Lights
- Command Pads
- Number Pads
- Fan and Light Pads
lnstructlons for each control are covered on the followlng pages. Read them carefully.

When you first plug In the oven, a tone sounds and the Display will show 88:88. If after you set the Clock (page 6) the Display agaln shows all 8’s; your electrlclty was off for a whlle. Reset the Clock

-CLOCK SET tells the oven you are golng to set the clock.
-START tells the clock to start.

Number Pads
Once you’ve touched a Command Pad to tell the oven what you want It to do, you’ll touch
Number Pads to tell it...
- a time.
- a Cook Power.
- a food temperature.
Fan and light Pads
The six pads at the bottom of the control panel control the 2-Speed Exhaust Fan and the Cooktop Light.
Touch Fan Pad for the deslred fan speed.
(NOTE: If the temperature gets too hot around the mlcrowave oven, the exhaust fan In the vent hood will automatically turn on the l.CW sefflng to protect the oven. lt may stay on up to an hour to cool the oven. When thls occurs, the Fan Pad will not turn the fan off.)
Touch Light Pad for the desired cooktop or countertop lighting.

Audible Signals

Audible signals are available to guide you when setting and using your oven. (A programming tone will sound each time you touch a pad. Four beeps signal the end of a Cook or Defrost cycle. Two beeps will sound between cycles. A reminder tone will sound every 60 seconds after cooking is done to remlnd you
that something has been left In the oven. A 3 second tone signals the end of the Minute Timer functton.) If you
don’t hear a tone, it is because of incorrectly entered instructions or because the tones have been removed. For example, a tone will not sound if you touch a Number Pad before you touch a Command Pad.
To remove the programmlng tone and reminder tone (the Mlnute Timer slgnal will not be
removed]:
l Open the door. l Touch CANCEL twice, then touch START. l Programming and reminder tones will be
cancelled.
To replace the tones:
l Repeat the steps above.
NOTE: If your electricity goes ofl,the tones will be replaced when the electrlclty comes back on.

Setting the Clock

When the oven is first plugged in, a tone sounds and the Display shows “88:88:’ If the electric power ever goes off, the Display will again show all 8’s when the power comes back on.
You can cook or use the Minute Timer without setting the Clock, but the Display will be blank after cooking.

The colon will stop flashing. The Clock is set.

Touch START.
If you have touched in an incorrect time, such as12:65, “Err” will show on the Display. Touch Number Pads to reenter the time of day. If you have not entered the time of day within eight seconds, you must touch CLOCK SET and start over.
NOTE: To mthe Clock, touch CLOCK SET. The current tlme will show on the Display and the colon will flash. Contlnue to set the Clock as shown above.

Using the Minute Timer

The Minute Timer does not start or stop cooking. It can be used alone or while the oven is operating. It works like a kitchen timer.

The Display will show what numbers you touched In the order you touched them. This example shows 1 minute, 45 seconds.
The MINUTE TIMER Indicator Light will stay on to show that the Minute Timer is running.
The Display counts down the seconds to show how much time is left on the Minute Timer.
When the set time is up, a 3 second signal will sound and the Display
will show the time of day.

Changlng the Mlnute Timer
-Touch MINUTE TIMER.
-Touch numbers to set new time.
- Touch START. New lnstructlons cancel the old ones.
The Mlnute Tlmer can be set to tlme other activities while the oven is operating in any other cycle. The Dlsplay will countdown the time of the cycle in oper­atlon. The Mlnute Tlmer will continue to countdown, but will not show on the Display. When the tlme Is up, a 3 second signal will sound.
Opening the oven door does not stop the Minute Timer countdown; however, it does stop any cooklng or defrosting. Close the door and touch START to continue cooking or defrosting.
Cancelling the Minute Timer
-Touch MINUTE TIMER.
-Touch CANCEL. Note. Touch MINUTE TIMER before touching CANCEL to cancel just the Minute Timer. If CANCEL Is touched first, all cook­lng Instructions will be cancelled and the Mlnute Timer will continue to operate.

Cooking in Your Microwave Oven

Although a new rattng method* rates thls oven at 800 watts, you may use a reliable cook­book wlth recipes developed for 650-700 watt mlcrowave ovens.
Be sure to read the MICRO MENUS@ Cookbook packed with the microwave oven. It contains lnformatlon about:
l What mlcrowave energy Is. l How food Is cooked by mlcrowave energy. l What affects cooklng speed and cooking evenness l Safetyttps. l Utensils to use when cooklng In a mlcrowave oven. l Cooklng times for dlfferent foods.
Important things to ternember to get the best cooklng results:
l ALWAYS cook food for the MINIMUM recommended cooking time. If necessary, add time
In one or two mlnute perlods, then check for doneness to avoid overcooking the food.
l Stir, turn or rearrange the food belng cooked about halfway through the cooking time
for most even doneness wlth all recipes.
l If a glass cover Is not avallable, use waxpaper, papertowels or microwave approved
plastic wmp. Turn back a corner to vent steam during cooking.
l

Cooking at High Cook Power

Follow these steps to cook at high power.

Changlng the Cooklng Time
Cooking tlme can be changed any time before touching START or during the cycle:
1. Touch COOK 1.
2. Touch numbers for the new time.
3. Touch START. Cook 1 will continue cooking for the new time.

Cooking at Lower Cook Powers

For best results, some recipes call for lower Cook Powers. The lower the Cook Power, the slower the cooklng. Each Number Pad also stands for a different percentage of Cook Power. Many recipes in your MICRO MENUS@ Cookbook tell you, by number, which Cook Power to use. Recipes In other books and magazines may tell you by name (HI, MED, LO, etc.) or percentage (lo%, 50%, 80%, etc.).

The COOK and COOK POWER Indicator Lights will stay on to show that the oven is cooking at a Cook Power other than HIGH.
The Display counts down the time to show how much cooking time is left in the first cycle.
For 2 of every 10 seconds, the Display will show the Cook Power you
selected.
When the cooklng tlme ends, “End” will show on the Display and 4 beeps will sound. (You can stop the beeplng by openlng the door or by touching CANCEL] “End” will remaln on the Display and a remlnder tone will sound every 60 seconds (to remind you that food Is left In the oven) until the door Is opened or CANCEL Is touched. The Display will then show the ttme of day.
Changing the Cook Power
The Cook Power can be changed any time before touching START or durlng the cycle.
l Touch COOK POWER. l Touch a number for the new Cook Power. l Touch START. The cycle will cook at the new Cook Power for the orlglnal ttme.
OR...
l Touch COOK POWER twice if you want to change a lower Cook Power to HIGH. l Touch START.

Using AUTO SET

Auto Set TIME and TEMP are preset cooklng cycles which store commonly used cooklng times and probe temperature sefflngs.
Auto Set TIME
Auto Set TIME provldes ten preset ttmes. One to nlne mlnutes at HIGH Cook Power can be selected by touching TIME and the corresponding Number Pad (l-9). You do not need to
touch any addltlonal Number Pads as you do when uslng COOK1 or COOK 2. Thls
provldes a short-cut method for sefflng commonly used cwklng nmes. The Auto Set Chart Included wlth your microwave oven and the Auto Set Gulde on the
Inner door panel help you use TIME to cook varlous food Items wlthout havlng to look up
the cooking times.
A preset tlme of 2 minutes, 30 seconds at HIGH Cook Power is avallable by touching just
the TIME Pad. The tlme may be changed to any tlme from O-99 minutes, O-W seconds,
allowlng you to store your favorite cooklng tlme and Cook Power, or to pm-program the
oven for someone else to cook an already prepared dlsh at a laterttme. See page13 for
Instructions.
