Removing packaging materials

■ Remove tape and any labels from your refrigerator before

using (except the model and serial number label). To remove any remaining tape or glue, rub t he area briskly

with your thumb. Tape or glue residue can also be easily removed by rubbing a small amount of liquid dish soap over the adhesive with your fingers. Wipe with warm water and dry .

■ Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable

fluids, or abrasive cleaners to remove tape or glue. These products can damage the surface of your refrigerator. For more information, see the “Refrigerator Safety” section.

When Moving Your Refrigerator:

Your refrigerator is heavy. When moving the refrigerator for cleaning or service, be sure to protect the floor. Always pull the refrigerator straight out when moving it. Do not wiggle or “walk” the refrigerator when trying to move it, as floor damage could occur.

Cleaning before use

After you remove all of the packaging material s, clean the inside of your refrigerator before using it. See the cleani ng instructions in the “Caring for Your Refrigerator” section.

■ If your refrigerator has an ice maker, make sure you leave

some extra space at the back for the water line connections. The refrigerator can be flush against the back wall if you do not have an ice maker installed.

■ If you are installing your refrigerator next to a fixed wall, leave

2 in. (5.08 cm) minimum on each side (depending on your model) to allow for the door to swing open.

Removing the Doors

Before you move your refrigerator into its final location, it is important to make sure you have the proper electrical connection:

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz., AC only 15 or 20 ampere fused, grounded electrical supply is required. It is recommended that a separate circuit serving only your refrigerator be provided. Use an outlet that cannot be tur ned off by a switch. Do not use an extension cord.

¹⁄₄ in. hex-head socket wrench and ⁵⁄₁₆ in. hex-head socket

wrench.

Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

If you have a dispenser (ice or water), disconnect water line

(behind base grille).

■ Remove hose from clip.

■ Disconnect union nut and slide it back onto tube.

■ Remove metal insert from tube.

■ Remove union nut and spring.

Remove left top hinge.

■ Remove hinge cover and screws.

SCREW 1 AS SHOWN IN DIAGRAM.

■ Disconnect wiring plug and both ground wires.

■ Carefully lift door up off bottom hinge. Make sure you

protect water line from damage.

NOTE: It may not be necessary to remove the bottom hinge

to move refrigerator through a doorway.

Connectingthe Refrigerator

to a W aterSource

Read all directions carefully before you begin. IMPORTANT:

■ If operating the refrigerator before installing the water

connection, turn ice maker to the OFF position to prevent operation without water.

■ All installations must be in accordance with local plumbing

code requirements.

■ Use copper tubing and check for leaks.

■ Install copper tubi ng only in areas where temperatures will

remain above freezing.

■ It may take up to 24 hours for your ice maker to begin

producing ice.

Tools required:

■ Standard screwdriver

■ ⁷⁄₁₆ in. and ¹⁄₂ in. open-end wrenches or two adjustable

wrenches

■ ¹⁄₄ in. nut driver

■ ¹⁄₄ in. drill bit

■ Hand drill or electric drill (properly grounded)

NOTE: Your refrigerator dealer has a kit available with a

¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) saddle-type shut-off valve, a union, and copper tubing. Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type valve complies with your local plumbing codes. Do not use a piercingtype or ³⁄₁₆ in. (4.76 mm) saddle valve which reduces water flow and clogs more easily.

Cold water supply

The ice maker water valve contai ns a flow washer which is used as a water pressure regulator. The ice maker needs to be connected to a cold water line with water pressure between 30 and 120 psi. If a problem occurs, ca ll your utility company.

Connecting to water line:

1. Unplug refrigerator or disconnect power.

2. Turn OFF main water supply. Turn ON nearest faucet long

enough to clear line of water.

3. Locate a ½ in. to 1¹⁄₄ in. (12.7 mm to 3.18 cm) vertical COLD water pipe near the refrigerator.

NOTE: Horizontal pi pe will work, but the following procedure must be followed: Drill on the top side of the pipe, not the bottom. This will help keep water away from the drill. This also keeps normal sediment from collecting in the valve.

4. To determine the length of copper tubing you wil l need, measure from connection on lower left rear of refrigerator to water pipe. Add 7 ft. (2.1 m) to allow for moving refrigerator for cleaning. Use ¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) O.D. (outside diameter) copper tubing. Be sure both en ds of copper tubing are cut square.

5. Using a grounded drill, dri ll a ¹⁄₄ in. ho l e in t he c old wa ter p ip e you have selected.

6. Fasten shut-off valve to cold water pipe with pipe clamp. Be sure outlet end is solidly in the ¹⁄₄ in. drilled hole in the water pipe and that washer is under the pipe clamp. Tighten packing nut. Tighten the pipe clamp screws carefully and evenly so washer makes a watertight seal. Do not overtighten or you may crush th e c op pe r tubing, especia lly if sof t ( c oile d ) copper tubing is used. Now you are ready to connect the copper tubing.

7. Slip compression sleeve and compression nut on copper tubing as show n. Inse rt end of tu bing into o utle t en d sq uar el y as far as it will go. Screw compression nut onto outlet end with adjustable wrench. Do not overtighten.

8. Place the free end of the tubing into a container or sink, and turn ON main water supply and flush out tubing until water is clear. Turn OFF shut-off valve on the water pipe. Coil copp er tubing.

Connecting to refrigerator:

1. Attach the coppe r tube to the va lve inlet us ing a compr ess ion

nut and sleeve as shown . Tighten the compression nut. Do not overtighten. Use the tube clamp on the back of the refrigerator to secure the tubing to the refrigerator as shown. This will help prevent damage to the tubing when the refrigerator is pushed back against the wall. Move to step 2.

2. Turn shut-off valve ON. Check for leaks. Tighten any connections (including connections at the valve) or nuts that leak.

3. The ice maker water valve is equipped with a built-in water strainer. If local water conditions require periodic cleaning or a well is your source of water supply, a second water strainer should be in stalled in th e ¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) water line. Obtain a water strainer from your nearest appliance dealer. Install at either tube connection.

4. Plug in refrigerator or reconnect power.

Interior W ater Filter Installation

(on some models)

The interior water filter cartridge is located in the upper righthand corner of the fresh food compartment of the refrigera tor. The interior water filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if the flow of water to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably. (See “Replacing the interior water filter cartridge” in the features section of this book.)

Installing the interior water filter cartridge

NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

1. Carefully remove the interior water filter cartridge from its

packaging. Remove the red cap from the cartridge.

2. Apply the appropriate month sticker to the cartridge as a reminder to replace the cartridge within six months. Then apply the “Water Filter Replacement Reminder” sticker to your calendar as a reminder to replace the cartridge in six months.

3. Line up the INSTALL mark on the water filter label with the indicator line that is molded into the filter mounting bracket cover. Push the cartridge into the filter mounting bracket. Twis t the cartr idge ¹⁄₄ turn to th e right t o lo ck i t int o pl ace. The REMOVE mark should be lined-up with the indicator line located on the front cover.

4. RUN WATER THROUGH THE DISPENSER UNTIL THE WATER RUNS CLEAR (about 2-3 gallons or 6-7 minutes). This will clean the sy stem and clear air from the lines. Additional flushing may be required in some households.

NOTE: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of the dispenser.

5. Open the refrigerator door and inspect th e filter system for water leaks. I f you see wate r leak s, s ee th e “Troubleshooting” section.

NOTE: You can run the dispenser without a water filter cartridge. Your water will not be filtered.

W ater System Preparation

Please read before using the water system. Immediately after installation, follow the steps below to make

sure that the water system is properly cleaned.

1. Open the freezer door and turn off the ice maker. For Style 1

lift up the wire shut-off arm as shown. For Style 2 move the switch to the OFF (right) setting as shown.

There may be an occasion when you will need to remove the factory-installed trim kit, such as moving the refrigerator to a new home or installing custom-made decorator panels. Please read

all instructions carefully before removing the trim kit and decorator panels.

2. Flush the water system by dispensing and discarding

2 to 3 gallons (ap pr oxim ately 6 to 7 minu tes) of w ater th r ou gh the dispenser. This will clean the system and help clear air from the lines. Additional flushing may be required in some households.

3. Open the freezer door and turn on the ice maker. For Style 1 lower the wire shut-off arm. For Style 2 move the switch to the ON (left) position. Please refer to the “Ice Maker and Storage Bin” features section for further instructions on the operation of your ice maker.

■ Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.

■ Discard the first three batches of i ce produ ced.

■ Depending on your model, you may want to select the

maximum ice feature to increase the production of ice. To do so, set the switch on the fr ont of the ice maker to MAX.

Removing the Door Panels

NOTE: When removing and replacing decorator panels, only the

handle is removed. All other trim pieces remain attached to the doors.

1. Remove the refrigerator and freezer handles:

■ Using a Phillips screwdrive r, remove the screws that

hold each handle in place.

■ Lift off handle. Make sure you keep screws for reattaching

handles.

2. Remove the door panels:

■ Open refrigerator or freezer door.

■ Slide out decorator panel and filler board.

■ Repeat process for other panels and filler boards.

■ Store pane l an d filler boards carefu ll y to prevent

scratching.

Replacing the Door Panels

1. Replace the refrigerator or freezer door panels:

■ Open refrigerator or freezer door.

■ Carefully slide the ¹⁄₈ in. decorator panel into place behind

the side trim.

■ Push the filler board into p lace behind the decorator

panel.

■ Repeat process for other panels and filler boards.

2. Attach the handles: NOTE: Freezer door han dle is n otched to fit a rou nd the d ispense r

panel.

■ Align the top of the refrigerator or freezer handle flush

with the top trim. Fasten the handle to the refrigerator or freezer door with the screws, using a Phillips screwdriver.

■ Repeat the process for the other handle.

Care of Decorator Panels

Clean panels with an anti-static cleaner (available in

electronics or computer departments) or mild soap and water with a clean, soft, damp cloth.

Rinse panels thoroughly and blot dry using a dry , soft cloth or

chamois.

3. DO NOT

use paper towels or cleaners which contain solvents such as ammonia. They can damage the surface of the panels.

If small scratches should appear on the panels, they may be

filled using an automotive p aste wax (NOT a cleaner/wax combination). Apply wax sparingly and buff lightly with a clean, soft cloth using a circular motion.

Installing Custom Wood Panels

If you plan to install c ustom wood de corator p anels, y ou will need to create the panels yourself or consult your cabinet maker or carpenter. See dimensional drawings for wood panel inserts.

Flat panels:

You can create a custom flat panel ¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) thick to replace your decorator panels. Flat wood panels less than ¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) thick are not recommended.

Raised panels:

A raised panel design can be created by screwing or gluing wood panels to ¹⁄₄ in. (6.35 mm) backing or by using ³⁄₄ in. (19.05 mm) stock with routed edges.

Weight requirements for raised panel inserts:

■ Refrigerator door panel should not exceed

25 lbs (9.98 kg).

■ Freezer door panels should not exceed 18 lb s (6.80 kg)

combined weight.

To remove the base grille:

Open both refrigerator doors.

Place hands along the ends of the grille, with your thumbs

along the top. Push in with your thumbs and pull up on the bottom.

Be sure to refasten the Tech Sheet behind the base grille

NOTE:

after cleaning.

To replace the base grille:

Open the doors.

Line up the grille support tabs with the metal clips.

Push the grille firmly to snap it into place.

Door Closing

Your refrigerator has two front adjustable rollers — one on the right and one on the left. If your refrigerator seems unsteady or if you want the doors to close more easil y, adjust the refrigerator's tilt using the instructions below:

1. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

2. Move the refrigerator into its final position.

3. Remove the base grille (see “Base Grille” earlier in this

section). The two leveling screws are part of the front roller assemblies which are at the base of the refrigerator on either side.

4. Use a screwdriver to adjust the leveling screws. Turn the leveling scr e w to the right to raise that side of the refrig e ra tor or turn the leveling screw to the left to lower that side. It may take several turns of the leveling screws to adjust the tilt of the refrigerator.

NOTE: Having someone push against the top of the refrigerator takes some weight off the leveling screws and rollers. This makes it easier to adjust the screws.

■ Your refrigerator is designed to run more efficiently to keep

your food items at the desired temperature. The high efficiency compressor may cause your new refrigerator to run longer than your old one, and you may hear a pulsating or high-pitched sound.

■ Water dripping on the defrost heater during a defrost cycle

may cause a sizzling sound.

■ You may hear the evaporator fan motor circulating the air

through the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

■ As each cycle ends, you may hear a gu rgling sound due to

the refrigerant flowing in your refrigerator.

■ Contraction and expansion of the inside walls may cause a

popping noise.

■ You may hear air being forced over the condenser by the

condenser fan.

■ You may hear water running into the drain pan during the

defrost cycle.

5. Open both doors again and check to make sure that they close as easily as you like. If not, tilt the refrigerator slightly more to the r ear by turning both l eveling sc rew s to the righ t. It may take several more turns, and you should turn both leveling screws the same amount.

6. Replace the base grille.

UnderstandingSounds Y ouMay Hear

Your new refrigerator may make sounds that your old one didn’t make. Because the sounds are new to you, you might be concerned about them. Most of the new sounds are normal. Hard surfaces, like the floor, walls, and cabinets, can make the sounds seem louder than they actually are. The following describes the kinds of sounds and what may be making them.

■ If your product is equipped with an ice maker, y ou will hear a

buzzing sound when the water valve opens to fill the ice maker for each cycle.

■ The defrost timer will click when the automatic defrost cycle

begins and ends. Also, the Thermostat Control (or Refrigerator Control depending on the model) will click when cycling on and off.

■ Rattling noises may come from the flow of refrigerant, the

water line, or items stored on top of the refrigerator.

Ensuring Proper Air Circulation

In order to ensure proper temperatures, you need to permit air to flow between the two sections. Cold air enters the bott om of the freezer section and moves up. It then enters the refrigerator section through the top vent. Air then returns to the freezer as shown.

Do not block any of these vents with food such as soda, cereal, bread, etc. If the vents are blocked, airflow will be prevented and the temperature controls will not function properly.

IMPORTANT: Because air circulates between both sections, any odors formed in one section will transfer to the other. You must thoroughly clean both sections to eliminate odors. To prevent odor transfer from food, wrap or cover foods tightly.

Setting the Controls

For your convenience, your refrigerator controls are preset at the factory. When you first install your refrigerator, make sure

that the controls are still preset. The Refri gerator Control and the Freezer Control should both be at the “mid-settings” as shown in the illustrations below.

For both Style 1 and Style 2, The Refrigerator Control adjusts the refrigerator compartment temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-setting make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-setting make the temperature colder.

For both Style 1 and Style 2, The F reezer Control adjusts the freezer compartment temperature. Settings to the left of the mid-setting make the temperature less cold. Settings to the right of the mid-setting make the temperature colder.

NOTE: For Style 1, your product will not cool when the Refrigerator Control is set to OFF. For Style 2, your product will

Adjusting Control Settings

The settings indicated in the previous section should be correct for normal household refrigerator usage. The controls are set correctly when milk or juice is as cold as you like and when ice cream is firm.

When the refrigerator is first hooked up, press th e water dispenser bar with a glass or jar until you draw and discard 2 to 3 quarts (1.9 to 2.8 L). It will t ake thr e e to four minut es for the water to begin dispensing. The water you draw and discard rinses the pipes. Allow several hours for the refrigerator to cool down and chill water.

IMPORTANT:

Ice dispenses from the ice maker storage bin in the freezer. When the dispenser lever is pressed:

■ A trap door opens in a chute between the dispenser and the

ice bin.

■ Ice moves from the bin and falls through the chute.

■ When you release the dispen ser lever, the trap door closes

and the ice dispensing stops. The dispensing system will not operate when the freezer door is open.

Some models dispense both cubed and crushed ice. Before dispensing ice, select which type of ice you prefer. The button controls are designed for easy use and cleaning.

■ For cubed ice, press the CUBE button until the red indicator

appears in the window above the CUBE button.

For crushed ice, cubes are crushed before being dispensed. This may cause a slight delay when dispensing crushed ice. Noise from the ice crusher is normal, and pieces of ice may vary in size. When changing from CRUSH to CUBE, a few ounces of crushed ice will be dispensed along with the first cubes.

Then continue to dispense ice or water as usual.

The base grille water filter status light

The water filter status light will help you know when to change your water filter cartridge. The light is located at the top of the refrigerator compartment. The light will change from

. This tells you that it is almost time to change the water filter cartridge (90% of the filter life has been used). It is recommended that you replace the base grille water filter cartridge when the water filter indicator light changes to water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably. (See “Changing a base grille water filter cartridge” later in this section.)

NOTE: Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

If your refrigerator does not have the water filter status light, you should change the water filter cartridge every 6-9 months depending upon your usage. If the water flow to the water dispenser or icemaker decreases noticeably before 6 months have passed, replace the water filter cartridge more often. (See “Changing a base water filter cartridge” later in this section.)

Changing a base grille water filter cartridge

The base grille water filter is l ocated below the freezer compartment door.

Locate the water filter cartridge cap in the front base grille below the freezer compartment door. Rotate the cap counterclockwise to a vertical position and pull the cap and filter cartridge out through the base grille.

NOTE:

There will be water in the cartridge. Some spilling may

occur .

With cartridge cap in th e vertical position, push the new f ilter cartridge into th e base gri lle until it stops. Rot ate the ca rtridge cap clockwise to a horizontal pos ition.

RUN WATER THROUGH THE DISPENSER UNTIL THE WATER RUNS CLEAR (about 2 - 3 gallons or 6 - 7 minutes). This will clean the syst em and clear air from the lines. Additional flushing may be required in some households.

As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out

of the dispenser.

Using the dispenser without the water filter

You can ru n the dispenser without a water filter cartr idge. Your water will not be filtered. If you run the dispenser without a water filter cartridge, keep the cartri dge cap and replace it in the base grille for future use.

Remove the base grille water filter cartridge (See “Changing a base grille water filter cartridge” earlier in this section.) Then slide the cartridge cap off the end of the filter cartridge. DO NOT DISCARD THE CAP.

With the cartridge cap in the vertical position, insert t he cap into the base grille until it stops.

Rotate the cartridge cap to a horizontal position as shown in step 5.

NOTE:

The cartridge cap may not be even with the base

grille.

Interior W ater Filtration System

(on some models)

The interior water filter cartridge is located in the upper righthand corner of the fresh food compartment of the refrigerator. The interior water filter cartridge should be replaced every six months or earlier if the flow of water to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably.

Replacing the interior water filter cartridge

Twist the interior water filter cartridge ¹⁄₄ turn to the left. The

INSTALL mark will be lined up with the i ndicat or mark locate d on the filter mounting bracket cover.

Gently pull down on the cartridge to remove it from the filter

mounting bracket assembly. To prevent water from spilling inside the refrigerator, DO NOT TIP the cartridge.

Dispose of the cartridge.

To install a new cart rid ge , refer to “Installing the interi or w ater

filter cartridge” section in this Use and Care guide.

You can run the dispenser without a water filter cartridge.

NOTE:

Your water will not be filtered.

Shelves a nd Shel f Fram es

To remove and replace a shelf/frame:

To slide the shelf from side to side:

Lift up on the front of shelf and slide to the desired location.

Lower shelf to the level position.

You do not have to remove small items from the shelf

Refrigerator Shelves

The shelves in your refrigerat or are adjustable to meet your individual storage need s. Your model may have glass or wire shelves.

Storing similar food items together in your refrigerator and adjusting the shelves to fit different heights of items will make finding the exact item you want easier. It will also reduce the amount of time the refrigerator door is open, and save energy.

IMPORTANT:

Adjustable Flip-up Shelf

(on some models)

To raise and lower the shelf:

1. Raise the shelf by first sliding it back and down to make it

half-width. (You can use the shelf in this position to allow taller items to be stored on the sh elf below.)

2. Lift the front of the shelf until it fits securely in place against

the back wall.

3. Lower the shelf securely back into position.

4. Pull the front of the shelf forward until it fits into place.

Convertible Vegetable/Meat Drawer ,

Crisper and Covers

(on some models)

To remove and replace the crisper and convertible vegetable meat drawers:

1. Slide crisper or meat drawer straight out to the stop. Lift t he

front of drawer with one hand while supporting the bottom of drawer with other hand and slide the drawer out the rest of the way.

2. Replace the crisper or meat drawer by sliding it back in fully past the drawer stop.

2. Lift crisper cover frame up and remove. Repeat steps to remove the meat drawer cover.

Deli Drawer

(on some models)

The deli drawer stores raisins, nuts, spreads, and other small items at normal refrigerator temperatures.

To remove and replace the deli drawer:

1. Remove the deli drawer by sliding it straight out to the stop.

Lift the front and slide the drawer out the rest of the way.

2. Replace the deli drawer by sliding it back past the stop.

3. Replace back of meat drawer cover frame into supports on

side walls of the refrigerator and lower the front of the cover frame into place.

4. Slide rear of glass insert into cover frame and lower front into place. Repeat steps to replace the crisper cover.

Meat stor age gui de

Store most meat in original wrapping as long as it is airtight and moisture-proof. Rewrap if necessary. See the following chart for storage times. When storing meat longer than the times given, freeze the meat.

Convertible Vegetable/Meat Drawer

Temperature Control

The convertible vegetable/meat drawer can be adjusted to properly chill meats or vegetables. The air inside the pan is cooled to prevent “spot” freezing and can be set to keep meats at the National Livestock and Meat Board recommended storage temperatures of 28°- 32°F (-2° - 0°C).

IMPORTANT: To extend freshness, wrap meats in airtight, moisture-proof materials before storing. Always store meat as recommended.

Adjusting the control

The convertible control comes preset at the lowest meat setting. To change a control setting: Move the control to the right

(colder) or to the left (less cold) as desired. To store vegetables: Set the control at the VEG setting, all the

way to the left, to store vegetabl es at their optimal storage temperatures (which need to be warmer than those for meat).

Crisper Humidity Control

(on some models)

You can control the amount of humidity in the moisture-sealed crisper. Adjust the control to any setting between LOW and HIGH.

■ LOW (open) lets moist air out of the crisper for best storage

of fruits and vegetables with skins. Fruit: Wash, let dry and store in refrigerator in plastic bag or

crisper. Do not wash or hull berries until the y ar e re ady to u se. Sort and keep berries in original container in crisper, or store in a loosely closed paper bag on a refrigerator shelf.

Vegetables with skins: Place in plastic bags or plastic container and store in crisper.

■ HIGH (closed) keeps moist air in the crisper for best storage

of fresh, leafy vegetables. Leafy vegetables: Wash in cold water, drain and trim or tear

off bruised and discolored areas. Place i n plastic bag or plastic container and store in crisper.

To turn the ice maker on:

The on/off switch for the ice maker is a wire shut-off arm located on the side of the ice maker. To turn the ice make r on, simply lower the wire shut-off arm.

NOTE: The ice maker will not make ice until the freezer is cold enough. Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced.

To turn the ice maker off:

■ Automatic turn off: As ice is made, the ice cubes will fill the

ice storage bin. The ice cubes will raise the wire shut-off arm to the OFF (arm up) position.

■ Manual turn off: Lift the wi re shut-off arm to the OFF (arm up)

position and listen for the click to make sure the ice maker will not continue to operate.

■ To increase ice production rate: Maximum Ice Production (on

some models): In maximum ice production, the ice maker should produce approximately 10 to 14 batches of ice in a 24-hour period. If your refrigerator has the maximum ice production feature, push the switch to MAX.

■ Normal Ice Production: In normal ice production mode, the

ice maker sh ould pr oduce a ppr oximatel y 7 to 9 ba tches of ice in a 24-hour period. If ice is not being made fast enough, turn the Freezer Control toward a higher (colder) number in half number steps. (For example, if the control is at 3, move it to between 3 and 4.) Wait 24 hours and, if necessary, gradually turn the Freezer Control to the highest setting, waiting 24 hours between each increase.

Style 1 - Ice Maker Storage Bin To remove and replace the ice bin:

1. Pull the covering panel out from the bottom and then slide it

back toward the rear.

2. Lift the wire shut-off arm so it clicks into the OFF (up) position. Ice can still be dispensed, but no more can be made.

3. Lift up the front of the storage bin and pull it out.

4. Replace the bin by pushing it in all the way or the dispenser

will not work. Push the wire shut-off arm down to the ON position to restart ice production. Make sure the door is closed tightly.

Style 2 - Ice Maker

To turn the ice maker on:

The ON/OFF switch is located on the top right side of the freezer compartment. To turn the ice maker on, slide the control to the ON (left) position.

NOTE: The ice maker will not make ice until the freezer is cold enough. Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice. Discard the first three batches of ice produced .

To turn the ice maker off:

■ Automatic turn off: The ice maker sensors will automatically

stop ice production but the control will remain in the ON (left) position.

■ Manual turn off: Slide the control to the OFF (right) position.

Style 2 - Ice Storage Bucket

To remove and replace ice bucket:

1. Place four fingers in bucket base opening a nd rest thumb on

the release button.

2. Holding the ba s e of the buc k et w ith both ha nd s, de p ress the release button and lift the bu cket up and out. It is not necessary to turn the ice maker control to the OFF (right) position. The ice maker will not produce ice without the bucket installed in the door.

To care for ice storage bin or bucket (Styles 1 and 2)

1. Empty the ice container. Use warm water to melt the ice if

necessary. Never use anything sharp to break up the ice in the bin or bucket. This can cause damage to the ice container and the dispenser mechanism.

2. Wash with a mild deterge nt, rin se we ll a nd d r y th o r o u g hl y. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners or solvents.

REMEMBER:

■ Allow 24 hours to produce the first batch of ice.

■ Discard the first three batches of ice produced to avoid

impurities that may be flushed out of the system.

■ The quality of your ice will be only as good as the quality of

the water supplied to your ice maker.

■ Avoid connecting the ice maker to a softene d water supply.

Water softener chemicals (such as salt) can damage parts of the ice maker and lead to poor quality ice. If a softened water supply cannot be avoid e d, make sure the water softener is operating properly and is well maintained.

■ It is normal for the ice cubes to be attached at the corners.

They will break apart easily.

■ Do not force the wire shut-off arm up or down.

■ Do not store anything on top of the ice maker or in the ice

storage bin.

Freezer Shelf

(number of shelves varies with model)

To remove and replace the shelf:

1. Lift the shelf off of the supports.

2. Slide it out of the shelf support holes.

3. Replace shelf in the reverse order.

Frozen food storage guide

Storage times will vary according to the quality and type of food, the type of packaging or wrap used (should be airtight and moisture-proof), and the storage temper ature. Ice crystals inside a sealed pa ck ag e a re normal. This simply means tha t mo is tu re in the food and air inside the package have condensed, creating ice crystals.

Put no more unfrozen food into the freezer than will freeze within 24 hours (no more than 2-3 lb of food per cubic foot [907-1,350 g per L] of freezer space). Leave enough space in the freezer for air to circulate around packages. Be careful to leave en ough room for the door to close tightly.

Freezer Basket

(plastic bin on some models)

The freezer basket can be used to store bags of frozen fruits and vegetables that may slide off freezer shelves.

To remove and replace the freezer basket:

1. Remove basket by sliding it out to the stop.

2. Lift the front of the basket and slide it out the rest of the way.

rails. Lift the basket front slightly while pushing it past the guide rail stops and sl ide basket in the rest of the way.

Door Rails

The door rails may be removed for easier cleaning.

Snap-on Door Rails

To remove and replace the rails:

1. Remove the rails by pushing in slightly on the front of the

bracket while pulling out on the inside tab. Repeat these steps for the other end of the rail.

2. Replace the rails by aligni ng the e nds of the bracke ts with the buttons on the sides of the door liner. Firmly snap bracket and rail assembly onto the tabs above the shelf as shown.

Drop-in Door Rails

To remove and replace the rails:

1. Remove the rails by pulling straight up on each end of the rail.

2. Replace the rails by sliding the shelf rail into the slots on the

door and pushing the rail straight down until it stops.
