Safety First: This document provides all the necessary information to allow your Whelen product to be properly and safely installed. Before beginning the installation and/or operation of your new product, the installation technician and operator must read this manual completely. Important information is contained herein that could prevent serious injury or damage.
• Proper installation of this product requires the installer to have a good understanding of automotive electronics, systems and procedures.
• If mounting this product requires drilling holes, the installer MUST be sure that no vehicle components or other vital parts could be damaged by the drilling process. Check both sides of the mounting surface before drilling begins. Also de-burr any holes and remove any metal shards or remnants.Installgrommets into all wire passageholes.
• Do not install this product or route any wires in the deployment area of your air bag. Equipment mounted or located in the air bag deployment area will damage or reduce the effectiveness of the air bag, or become a projectile that could cause serious personal injury or death. Refer to your vehicle owner's manualfor the air bag deployment area. The User/Installer assumes full responsibility to determine proper mounting location, based on providing ultimate safety toallpassengers inside the vehicle.
• For this product to operate at optimum efficiency, a good electrical connection to chassis ground must be made. The recommended procedure requires the product ground wire to be connected directly to theNEGATIVE (-)battery post.
• If this product uses a remote device toactivate or controlthis product, make surethat this control is located in an area that allows both the vehicle and the control to be operated safely in any driving condition.
• Do not attempt to activateorcontrol this device in ahazardousdriving situation.
• This product contains either strobe light(s), halogen light(s), high-intensity LEDs or a combination of these lights. Do not stare directly into these lights. Momentary blindness and/or eye damage could result.
• Use only soap and water to clean the outer lens. Use of other chemicals could result in premature lens cracking (crazing) and discoloration. Lenses in this condition have significantly reduced effectiveness and should be replaced immediately. Inspect and operate this product regularly to confirm its proper operation and mounting condition. Do not use a pressure washertoclean this product.

ARNING! All customer supplied wires that connect to the positive (+) terminal of the
battery must be sized to supply at least 125% of the maximum operating current and
“at the battery” to carry that load. DO NOT USE CIRCUIT BREAKERS WITH THIS
FUSED PRODUCT!
• FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PRECAUTIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE PRODUCT OR VEHICLEAND/OR SERIOUS INJURY TO YOU AND YOUR PASSENGERS!
Standard Mount (composite headlight or taillight housing) Installation:
1. Follow manufacturers instructions to remove the headlight (or taillight) reflector assembly from the vehicle.

NOTE:
Lamp Filament Insert the Vertex from the back or bottom of the headlight or rear taillight housing, as close to the focal point as possible.

2. Select the mounting location for the Vertex,keepinginmindthefollowing:
The Vertex may share the samereflector as the headlight,brake light, or signal light. Make sure the Vertexdoesnotinterferewiththeoperationoftheselights.
●●The Vertexmustnotbeinstalledabovethehorizontalcenterlineofthereflector.
The VertexmustnotbeinstalledaboveanyOEM-suppliedlight.
3. Choose a surface in the rear or bottom of the housing which is as flat as possible. Using a hole saw,cuta1”holeinthehousingasshown(Fig.1&2) and de-burr the hole.
4. Insert the LED lamp assembly into the reflector housing. Mark the location for the two mounting holes (3/32” dia.). Remove the lamp assembly and drill the holes.
5. Install the lamp assembly and gasketusing the #4sheet metal screws,installation disc and flat washers as shown to secure the lamp to the reflector assembly.
tightening these screws could damage the Vertex™ and/or housing assembly. Do not continue to tighten once the Vertexissecuredagainstthehousing.
7. Remount both headlight assemblies to the vehicle and route the connector cables to their designated control switches (power and Scan-Lock™).

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the Vertex is being used in an area previously occupied by an
S30HA light assembly, it is important to seal the mounting holes used by the previous assembly with RTV or other suitable material.
Flange Mount Installation:
Using the dimensions shown, drill appropriately sized wire access and mounting holes. Refer the "FLANGE MOUNT" illustration shown for proper assembly order and secure the Vertex using thehardware provided. R (power and Scan-Lock™) tape provided.

Wiring & Operation:
The Vertex is powered & controlled by the 4-wire cable coming from the light assembly. Their functions are as follows:
RED: Positive -
BLACK: Ground -
GREEN: SYNC -
output. Cap off this wire if it is not used.
WHITE: Scan-Lock™-

Scan-Lock
In orderto program flash patterns,the lighthead must be on. With theappropriate lighthead(s) activated:
TO CHANGE PATTERNS:
WHT wire for less than 1 second and release. To cycle back to the previous pattern apply +12VDC to the WHT wire for more than 1 second and release.
TO CHANGE THE DEFAULT PATTERN:
for more than 5 seconds. The lighthead will now display this pattern when initially activated.
TO RESTORE THE FACTORY DEFAULT PATTERN:
default settings. With the light turned off, apply power to the WHT wire. With power applied to the WHTwire, turn light on.Allow the unit to runfor 3 seconds before removingpower from the WHT wire.
