- This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC Rules. The label affixed to this product contains, among other information,
the FCC Registration Number and the Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for this product. This information must be provided to the telephone company if requested.
- The REN is used to determine the quantity of devices which you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of those
devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most, but not all areas, the sum of the REN's of all devices connected to one line should not exceed five (5.0). To be certain of the number of devices that you may connect to your line, contact your local telephone company.
- This equipment should not be used on coin telephone lines. Connection to party line service is subject to state tariffs.
- If trouble is experienced, disconnect this equipment from the telephone line to determine if it is causing the malfunction. If the
equipment is determined to be malfunctioning, its use shall be discontinued until the problem has been corrected.
- Should the equipment cause harm to the telephone network, the telephone company shall, if possible, notify the customer that
temporary discontinuance of service may be required; however, where prior written notice is not possible, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue service without notice, if such action is necessary under the circumstances. The telephone company may make changes in its communication facilities, equipment and operations procedures, where such action is reasonably required in the operation of its business and is not inconsistent with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission.
DOC REGULATIONS:
NOTICE
: The Canadian Department of Communications label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective operational and safety requirements. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's satisfaction.
- Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. In some cases, the company's inside wiring associated with a single line individual service may be extended by means of a certified connector assembly (telephone extension cord). The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.
- Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
- Make sure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected together.
-
CAUTION
: The installation of this equipment should only be undertaken by qualified personnel.
- The Load Number (LN) assigned to each terminal device denotes the percentage of the total load to be connected to a telephone loop which is used by the device, to prevent overloading. The termination on a loop may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the total of the Load Numbers of all the devices does not exceed 100.
Load Number for CH-BT1 = 7

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Electronic TelChime provides a pleasant chime signal as an alternative to standard telephone bell ringers and electronic warblers. It is designed for use on the Public Telephone Network or behind PBX and Key Systems that use interrupted ringing voltages from 40130VAC, 20-30Hz.
TelChime produces a single chime sound during each cycle of interrupted ringing voltage. Both tone and volume are adjustable. Solid state design requires low current drain to minimize line loading and is not affected by rotary dial voltage spikes.
CH-BT1 is recommended for large areas up to 5000 square feet and for noisy locations. It is attractively packaged for convenient mounting.
MOUNTING INFORMATION:
CH-BT1 TelChime is designed for mounting to interior structures such as walls, partitions or posts. Locate the chime as desired and place mounting screws (supplied with each unit) as shown in Figure 2 for CH-BT1. Hang the chime securely by means of the keyholes on the back of each unit. For hollow walls or thin panels, use appropriate dry wall fasteners.
WIRING INFORMATION:
1. Modular Connection: - Connect TelChimes to the telephone system with a standard modular line cord (not provided). The cord is typically 7 feet in length with a modular plug to mate with a RJ-11C jack in the USA or a CA-11 jack in Canada. Refer to Figures 1 and 3 for connection and adjustments. If a spare phone jack is not available, a "T" adaptor may be used.
2. Hardwire Connection:
- Remove the top cover by pushing the latch at the bottom of the housing base with a small screwdriver, refer to Figure 1. Disconnect the speaker wires by unplugging them from the PC Board pins P1 (red) and P2 (black).
- Route the tip and ring wires from the telephone system through the opening in the phone jack. Then connect the tip and ring wires to the terminals marked T and R respectively, see Figure 4.
- Reconnect the speaker wires to pins marked P1 (red) and P2 (black).
- Snap cover back onto base. Be sure that the base sides line up between the cover sides and the 4 fingers in the cover sides, see Figure 5.
3. Note that the TelChime does not eliminate existing Telephone Ringers. Such Ringers can be disconnected when TelChime is installed. After completing the installation, test by having someone ring your telephone to make sure the signal functions properly.
4. All TelChimes are shipped with controls preset as follows:
(A) Volume control at maximum. (B) Tone control at 830Hz. Settings (A) and (B) are selected to achieve peak sound output (dBA at 1 meter). Volume and tone controls may be readjusted as
required. Note that changes in factory setting of either or both controls will reduce sound output.
CAUTION: These devices are not intended for use in hazardous locations as defined by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Contact Wheelock Inc. for information on explosion-proof devices designed for hazardous locations.
