The mains lead on your Zaldek sub bass unit may be supplied with a plug incorporating a fuse, the value of which is indicated on the pin face of the plug. Should the fuse need to be replaced, an ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 fuse must be used of the same rating. If the plug is cut off it must NOT be re-used. Dispose of any such plug safely. There is a danger of electric shock if a cut-off plug is inserted intoa mains socket. The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Green and Yellow- Earth: Blue - Neutral: Brown -Live. As the colours of the wires in the mains lead may not correspond with the markings identifying the terminals in the replacement mains plug, proceed as follows: The wire coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter "N" or coloured Black. The wire coloured Brown must be connectedto the terminal marked withthe letter "L" or coloured Red.The wire coloured Green and Yellow must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter ‘E’,or coloured Green, or Green andYellow, or marked withthe Earth symbol

CONNECTINGYOUR LOUDSPEAKERS
Select two suitable lengths of twin core speaker cable, of roughly the same length and prepare them as described. Avoid having one cable extremely short and one extremely long as this may unbalance the bass, especially onheavy passages.
Connect the Left loudspeaker to the Left Speaker output of theamplifier. Make sure that the Red, Positive (+) terminal of the loudspeaker connects to the Red, Positive, (+) terminal of the amplifier.Connect the Black, Negative (-) terminal of the loudspeaker to the Black, Negative (-) terminal of the amplifier. Now connect the Right loudspeaker to the Right Speaker output of the amplifierfollowing thesame procedure.
If yourloudspeaker cable ispolarised with astripe or raisededge on oneconductor, it helpsto use the wire with the marking to connect to the Red, Positive terminals in all cases. This will assist you to connectthe loudspeakersproperly andin phase.
POSITIONINGYOUR LOUDSPEAKERS
The ZaldekSeries isdesigned tobe either Floorstanding orshelf orstand mounted. For theZaldek 300 and 600 stand mounting is advisable. The Zaldek 1000 may be stand or floor mounted., while the Zaldek 2000is adedicated floormounting design. If thespeakers arewall mountedthey shouldbe on asturdy bracketwhich supportsthe undersideof theloudspeaker andis firmlyattachedto thewall.
Placing loudspeakers closer to the floorwill increase the bass output but if thefloor is suspended the bass may boom and becomeoverpowering. If the loudspeakers are placed too close to thewalls the
bass will increase but may be boomy and indistinct. We suggest that they are positioned at least 300mm from the rear walls and 700mm from the side walls, facing slightly inwards. If the loudspeakersare placedfurtheraway fromthe walls, the inwardanglemay beincreased byup to40%, although thismay restrictthe widthof theoptimum listeningposition. The orientationof themidrange andtreble hornsissuch thattherewill bea greatdeal ofheightinformation, butthis toein angleshould becarefully adjustedfor optimumresults.(Refer tothe diagrambelow).
The loudspeakersshould beoperated ata heightwhere thetreble hornis atear levelto aseated listener though the largevertical dispersion of the midrangeand treble horn meansthat this is notcritical. As personal tasteplays alarge role pleaseexperiment withdifferent configurationsand playa wide range ofprogrammes beforefinalising theposition of yourspeakers.
NOTE: When finalisingyour loudspeakers’positionbe awarethatthey shouldnot bein positionswhere theycould beknocked overor causedanger tochildren orpets.

We hope that yourloudspeakers willgive youa rewardinglistening experiencefor manyyears .
Pleaseread allthe instructionscarefully andin fullbefore installing your Wharfedale loudspeakers. Before makingconnections to anypart of yoursound system makesure the amplifierand allconnected
sourcesare switchedoff. When youswitch on yoursystem or changesources, set thevolume control tominimum and turnup the
level gradually. DO NOT use your amplifier at full volume. The position of the Volume Controlis NOT a reliable
guide as tothe maximum volumelevel or capabilities ofyour sound system. Playing thesystem with extreme high settingsof volume and tone controlswill result in distortedsound and may damage the amplifierand loudspeakers.
DONOT connectloudspeaker terminalsto themains supply. Ensurethat allloudspeakers inthe systemare correctlywired andare inphase.
Carefully remove each loudspeaker from its packing carton.Be especially careful when removing the polythene bag. DO NOT attempt to lift the loudspeaker by the polythenebag. Retain the packing for futureuse. Ifyou decideto disposeof thepacking, pleasedo sosafely.
Carefully invert each loudspeaker. Protect the top surface fromscratches or damagewhen the loudspeakeris inverted. In thepacking carton youwill find the spike assemblies. Screw a spike into each of the four pre-drilled locations on the base of the loudspeaker. Return the loudspeakerto its normal positiontaking care not to causedamage with the spikes. Adjust the height of the spikes so that the speakers are stable. The top surfaces of the loudspeakershould belevel andthe sameheight abovethe floor.
Whenmoving speakers, becareful notto letthe spikespierce objects,or cableswhich maybe concealed underthe carpet.Never dragthe loudspeakers. If youcannot liftthem easily, getsomeone toassist you.
A set of self adhesive pads is provided.Peel off the backing material
andfix apad ateach cornerof thebottom surfaceof theloudspeaker.
Four self adhesive spacers are provided. Peel off the backing
materialand fixa spacerat eachcorner ofthe rearsurface ofthe loudspeaker.
Cable designedfor audio applicationswill usually offerbetter performancethan general purpose'bell' or 'zip' wire. Choosea cable of suitable diameter- cable that is toothin will limit the dynamicsof the soundand mayimpair thebass response.Audiocable ispolarised, withtwo coresof differentcolours, or oftena colouredtracer inthe caseof twin cable.
Split the twin cores to a depth of about 40mm. Carefully strip the insulation from each end, leaving about8mm ofbare wire.If thecable isstranded, lightlytwist togatherany loosestrands.
The Zaldek Sub Bass uses twin screw terminals. The other loudspeakers in the Zaldek range use powerfulspring terminals.
Unscrew the terminal. Thread the bared endof eachcable throughthe holein thebottom of theterminal post. Retighten theterminal securely.
Ensure that there are no loose strands
whichmay touchadjacent terminals.
Spring Terminals:
Screw Terminals:
When a lever is pressed a hole appears in the terminal into which the wire can be pushed. When the lever is released thewire is held firm. Ensure that theterminal grips thebare wire at theend of thecable, notthe insulation.
Make sure that in all cases the Red speaker terminal is wired to the Red (+) amplifier output terminal and the Black speaker terminalis wired tothe Black (-)amplifier output terminal.
