FULL RANGE connections
FULL RANGE wiring connections from the output of the amplifier to the MX loudspeaker are
made via NL4-type connectors located on the rear mounted input plate on each MX Series
model.
Connector pin wiring is configured as follows:

Parallel connections to additional
cabinets will result in decreased
impedance loads on the amplifier.
To prevent amplifier damage, be
aware of cabinet impedances and
the limitations of the amplifier in
use before connecting additional

speaker cabinets connected in
parallel provide a 4-ohm load to
the amplifier. Four 8-ohm speaker
cabinets provide a 2-ohm load to
the amplifier, which can be too low
for some amplifiers and can result
in dec rea sed per for man ce and
overheating of the amplifier.
Using multiple enclosures wired in parallel
PARALLEL CONNECTION WIRING
Bi-Amplication / Tri-Amplication
The MX Series two way speakers feature a selectable bi-amp mode (two separate amplifier channels for low frequency and high frequency signals to the woofer and high frequency driver of each speaker enclosure). This requires an external active crossover network to provide a low and high frequency line level output to dedicated low and high frequency amplifiers for proper processing of the low/high frequency portions of the audio signal. Use with a separate subwoofer will allow for system tri-amp applications (Separate amplifier channels for low frequency signals to the subwoofer(s), with separate mid-range frequency and high frequency amp channels for the mid range drivers and high frequency drivers of each two way speaker enclosure).
To obtain the best sounding setting for the performance environment and related mid range and high frequency speakers, consult the manufacturer's operating instructions for the active crossover and amplifiers that are in use.

PART 2 SUBWOOFER ENCLOSURES MX-118B / MX-F18B / MX218B
Page 24
OPERATING MANUAL AND USER GUIDE
23
The MX Series subwoofers provide extended high power, low frequency enhancement for
two way and three way sound systems. When combined with the MX Series of two way
enclosures, optimum two and three way system configurations become available.
Of the three MX subwoofer models, only the MX-118B band pass subwoofer enclosure
does not require the use of a crossover. The MX-F18B and MX-218B subwoofers require
an external active crossover network to provide a low frequency, line level output to the
dedicated subwoofer amplifier for proper processing of the low frequency portion of the
audio signal. It is not recommended that full range signals be sent to the MX-F18B and
MX-218B subwoofers. For details, consult the manufacturer's operating instructions for the
active crossover and amplifiers that are in use.
Parallel connections to additional enclosures will result in decreased impedance loads
on the amplifier. To prevent amplifier damage, be aware of cabinet impedances and the
limitations of the amplifier in use before connecting additional speaker cabinets.
Two 8 ohm speaker cabinets, connected in parallel, provide a 4 ohm load to the amplifier.
Four 8 ohm speaker cabinets provide a 2 ohm load to the amplifier, which can be too
low for some amplifiers and can result in decreased performance and overheating of the
amplifier.

(For quick setup of subwoofer enclosures)
- Make all initial connections with the power switches OFF on all equipment.
- Check that all master volumes, levels, or gain controls on all equipment are turned all the
way down.
- Connect the line-level outputs from the system mixer to the inputs of the electronic
crossover units. Connect the appropriate outputs of the crossover units to the appropriate
inputs of the high, mid and low frequency system power amplifiers.
- Connect the appropriate Speaker Output from the high-mid frequency power amplifiers
to the INPUT connectors on the full range or two-way speakers.
- Connect the appropriate Speaker Output from the low frequency power amplifiers to the
INPUT connectors on the MX Series subwoofers using appropriate speaker cables.
- Turn on the mixing console (or other signal source).
- With the level controls all the way down, turn on the amplifier.
- Send a signal source through the mixer, such as a microphone or instrument. Gradually
adjust the volume controls on the mixer and amplifier accordingly.
Quick-Start for Subwoofer Enclosures
Subwoofer connections
Normal wiring connections from the output of the low frequency amplifier to the MX
subwoofer are made via NL4, Speakon-type connectors located on the rear mounted
input plate of each enclosure.

MX-118B Band Pass Subwoofer
- Single 18 " high efficiency 4 " voice, coil low
frequency transducer with aluminium die-cast
frame.
- High Power Handling Capabilities up to 2400
Watts.
- Compact 4th order band pass design providing
high efficiency without the need for a
crossover.
- Available in 4 or 8 ohm configurations.
- Two integral carry handles.
- Integral pole mount adapter.
- 18mm (3/4 " ) birch plywood construction.
The MX-118B consists of a heavy duty custom 18 low frequency driver in a sturdy and
portable bandpass enclosure optimally tuned for extended low frequency response. Where
significant extension of low frequency output of a system is required, the addition of one
or more MX-118B subwoofers will provide high output low frequency enhancement to the
overall system.
The MX-118B's bandpass enclosure design provides for uniform low frequency reproduction
without the need for a crossover.
For demanding, high output applications, it is recommended that each MX-118B be powered
with a dedicated, high powered amplifier channel. The MX-118B rear panel connector plate
provides input connections from the output of the amplifier via dual NL-4 Speakon type

MX-F18B Folded Horn Subwoofer
The MX-F18B is a passive, single 18" folded horn subwoofer in a surprisingly portable and
easily moveable enclosure. Where significant extension of low frequency output of a sound
system is required, the addition of one or more MX-F18B subwoofers will provide high
output low frequency enhancement to the overall sound system. The MX-F18B is designed to
work with an external active crossover unit.
For demanding high output applications, it is recommended that each MX-F18B be powered
with a dedicated high powered amplifier channel. If a variable low pass control is available
on the active crossover unit being used, it may take some experimentation with different
settings of this control to find the best sounding setting for the particular performance
environment.
The MX-F18B input connections from the output of the amplifier are made via NL-4 Speakon
type connectors that are located on the rear mounted input plate. NL-4 pins1+ /1- are used
for input and parrallel through connections. (See Specifications on page 33)

MX-218B Horn-Loaded Subwoofer
Where significant extension of low frequency output of a sound system is required, the
addition of one or more MX-218B subwoofers will provide high output, low frequency
enhancement to the overall system. The MX-218B is designed to work with an external,
active crossover unit. For demanding, high output applications, it is recommended that
each MX-218B be powered with a dedicated, high powered amplifier channel or an amp
in bridged-mono mode. If a variable low pass filter is available on the active crossover unit
being used, it may take some experimentation with different settings of this control to find
the best so unding settin g for the particular pe rformance environme nt. Consult the
instructions for the electronic crossover being used for details.
Connections:
The MX-218B input connections from the output of the amplifier are via dual NL-4
Speakon® type connectors that are located on the rear mounted input plate. The MX-
218B can be used in a switchable 4 ohm/parallel driver configuration or a discrete, dual
8 ohm driver "DISCRETE"mode that allows a separate amplifier to drive each speaker
independently at 8 ohms each. In PARALLEL mode NL-4 connections 1+/1- are used. In
DISCRETE mode, connections 1+/1- and 2+/2- are used for each driver.
