1. Introduction

manufactured and subjected to final inspection according to legal regulations, quality norms and industry standards.
For your safety and the safety of your patients
Prior to initial use please read the Instructions for Use. These explain how to use your W&H product and guarantee a
smooth and efficient operation.
Intended use
The Proxeo straight/contra-angle handpiece is intended for cleaning and polishing the tooth surface and fillings.
Misuse can damage the handpiece and involves risk and danger to the user and third parties.
Production according to EU directive
This straight/contra-angle handpiece is a medical product according to the EU-directive 93/42/EEC.
Skilled application
This medical product is intended only for informed use in the medical dental field according to its purpose of use in
compliance with the valid health and safety at work regulations, the valid accident prevention regulations as well as
in compliance with these Instructions for Use. The contra-angle should be maintained according to the manufacturer's
recommendations and in line with infection control procedures for the safety and well-being of patients. Improper use,
e.g. poor hygienic maintenance, non-compliance with our Instructions, or the use of accessories and spare parts which
are not approved by W&H, invalidates all claims under warranty and any other claims.
Service
In case of service or repair contact an authorized W&H service partner (see Page 30). Service and maintenance work
must only be carried out by an authorized W&H service partner.

2. Before use – Safety notes
> Always ensure operating conditions are correct.
> Check the straight/contra-angle handpiece for damage and loose parts prior to use.
Hygienic maintenance prior to initial use
The straight/contra-angle handpiece is in a clean condition and sealed in PE-film when delivered. Lubricate prior to
initial use and sterilise the straight/contra-angle handpiece.

4. Operation
Assembly and removal
Do not assemble / remove
during operation!
➊ Fit the straight/contra-angle onto the motor until it
snaps into place.
➋ Check the connection to the motor is secure.
➌ Remove the straight/contra-angle handpiece from
the motor by pulling in an axial direction.

Changing disposable heads or cups and brushes
> Use the straight/contra-angle handpieces in clockwise direction only. In an anti-clockwise direction the
cups or brushes can become detached (leading to a danger of swallowing).
Clamping chuck system
The HP-44 handpiece is provided with an automatic clamping chuck system.
> Use only disposable heads with plastic shafts. Heads with metal shafts will damage the clamping chuck
system.

Disposable heads or cups and brushes
> Use only disposable heads or cups and brushes in perfect condition and observe the
manufacturer's information.
> Only insert or remove the disposable heads or cups and brushes when the motor is at a standstill.
> Do not interfere with the running or slowing down of disposable heads or cups and brushes.

To change a disposable head
Only use once!
➊ Push the disposable head onto the handpiece
axially. Align the groove of the disposable head
with the nose of the handpiece.
➋
Insert the disposable head as far as the stop.
➌ Check the head is secure by pulling it axially.
➍ Pull the disposable head off the handpiece axially.
> Dispose of the head according to the guidelines for
disposable articles.
