1. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS A. ELECTRICAL CONTROLS
Al. Standard control consoles are equipped with one start stop control for the saw blade drive. In addition, the machines are wired so the saw blade will turn off when the head returns. The cutting section of the saw blade should travel towards the
driving wheel. If it travels in the opposite direction, reverse the drive motor rotation.
A2. If a saw blade jams in the work and it is desired to keep the blade keep the saw blade start button depressed.
A3. Machines equipped with a BF-14 or BF-20 barfeed have a selector control that turns the barfeed on or off, and when on, will keep the saw blade from stopping when the head returns.
A4. Machines that are equipped with hydraulic powered accessories, such as hydraulic band
tension, hydraulic vise or hydraulic hold downs, have an additional set of for the hydraulic pump control.
A5. If other accessories are supplied with the machine, an insert sheet will supply operational data.
A6. A switch control rod with a mechanical con necting linkage to the cutting head is mounted on the side of the control console (Fig. 10). There are
two collars with thumb screws on this rod. The upper thumb screw collar is set for the return stop

upper stop collar and hold that position, open the automatic closing valve (Fig. 1) rather than the manual closing valve, and the machine will
automatically rise and hold the desired position. If the hydraulic system does

B. HYDRAULIC CONTROLS
Bl. Two valves are supplied on the standard console, an automatic closing valve and a manually closed valve.
B2. With the automatic closing valve (Fig. I), adjust the desired cutting head rate of descent by
unlocking the wing nut and turning the large collar step closer to the valve handle for slower descent. Rotate the collar step away from the handle for
faster descent.
When properly adjusted, lock with the wing nut and each cut can be started at the same rate by lifting the handle up until it contacts the stop. After the work piece is cut off, the cutting
return and the head in the raised position.

B3. The manually closed valve is used for cuts that require closer control, such as cutting into a work piece to a particular point, and for operation with the barfeed where a continuous cycle is desired. When this valve is opened the cutting head will
continue to cycle up and down until the valve is closed.
B4. Other valves may be supplied with accessories such as hydraulic blade tension or hydraulic vise. These are marked for appropriate operation.
C. PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE Cl.
The cutting head return limit switch should be checked for proper overtravel. After the head has returned, the control rod should be free to raise up
another 1/16 inch or more (Fig. 7). If not, adjust as outlined later in Section 3.
C2. If any electrical fuses blow, replace them with the proper
If larger rated fuses are used they may cause other components to fail. If fuses continue to blow, check for faulty components and contact the factory.
C3. Motor starter running overload heater elements occasionally drop out for no apparent reason. If this recurs, measure the motor current and compare it to the motor rating and overload heater element selection chart. If it is not the proper size, replace it. If for causes of high motor loads such as low oil level
in the hydraulic system, low oil level in the blade drive gear box, machine filled with packed chips, etc.
C4. Type 010560 automatic closing valves (Fig. 1)
were used from the first of 1974 and are still currently in production. Should the valve stem leak, tighten the packing by unscrewing the valve handle assembly from the top of the valve. This will expose the packing nut. Tighten this nut until the oil leak stops, but do not overtighten. If the
packing is too tight the valve will not close automatically when the cutting head returns, nor will it open when the valve handle is raised.

C5. If the automatic valve allows the cutting head to
leak down when closed, it will probably have dirt embedded in the nylon valve seat. The nylon valve face can sometimes be re-machined with a very sharp tool in a lathe to remove this dirt. However, remove only a very slight amount. It is preferable to replace it with a new valve seat.
2. CUTTING HEAD RETURN LIMIT SWITCH ADJUSTMENT
A. Adjustment is required if: Al. The switch rod or connecting linkage springs or
bends when the cutting head reaches the returned position. When the head has returned the con necting linkage should be loose. It should not be under tension.
A2. The limit switch head breaks internally or fails to operate. This is normally caused by a wrong overtravel adjustment, which in turn places too
much force on the switch.
A3. The switch rod stop collars are stopping the cutting head at the wrong places. This will occur
when the connecting linkage to the cutting head
has been bent or knocked out of shape.
A4. The connecting linkage must be free and loose
around the switch rod.
B. PROPER ADJUSTMENT CHECKOUT
Bl. Position the cutting head so the mechanical
connecting linkage to the switch rod does not in-
terfer with the rod travel in either direction, and turn off the electrical supply to the machine.
B2. Slowly rotate the switch arm clockwise until
the switch clicks. Just beyond this point the limit switch arm rod overtravel (Fig. 4). This protects the limit switch from overtravel and breakage in this direction. Now return the electrical supply to the machine.
B3. Return the cutting head and allow it to stop itself by raising up the switch rod. After the head has stopped, the switch rod should still have 1/16
inch or more upward overtravel beyond the con

STEP 3. Place a screwdriver into the switch shaft and rotate it in both directions. Confirm that the switch is operating properly by a definite snapping feel and an audible click in each direction. The switch overtravel limit can be felt by a definite stop in rotation in each direction.

arm in this position. Rotate the switch shaft clock wise with the screwdriver until it just clicks. Holding the parts in this position, tighten the hex bolt to secure the arm to the switch shaft.

To check the adjustment, rotate the switch arm over and back until it just clicks. At this point the arm should have 1/16 inch clearance as shown in Fig. 4. If necessary, readjust as outlined above.
STEP 4. Raise the switch rod until the lower stop
nut and washer is up against the machine base firmly as shown in Fig. 5, then hold them in this position.
Lower and raise the switch rod several times to be sure the switch clicks. Check the bottom nut on the switch rod to be sure it stops the rod before the
switch arm contacts the overtravel stop bracket. When the unit is properly adjusted the
the switch rod will hold any accidental overtravel from being placed on the limit switch head.
STEP 5. Check the new adjustment by raising the cutting head and allowing it to stop itself. At this point, lift the space (approximately 1/16 inch or more) should be visible as shown in Fig. 7. If not, recheck all the
previous adjustments.

Tighten the set screw or hex nut onto the switch rod as shown in Fig. 6.

STEP 1. Turn off the electrical power to the machine, loosen the start return collars as shown in Fig. 8, and lower the cutting head completely down.
